public administration

Select a public policy you are most interested in. Then, select one media outlet that has promulgated or attempted to block the debate on the public policy issue you chose. International students should consider how the news media in their home country has promulgated or attempted to block debate on a selected national public policy issue.

By Day 4

International students should post how the influence of your local news media on national public policy compares to the impact of American media on the public policy process in the United States.

Module 1 – Case

Telecommuting

Assignment Overview

Telecommuting

With technological advancements, many employees are able to work from
home one or more days per week. Telecommuting is becoming more popular
and allows an employee to take advantage of technology and complete
tasks from home or a coffee shop. With globalization and
organizations hiring employees from different countries, it becomes
imperative for employers to embrace telecommuting because of the added
benefits for not only the employees but also the employer. Some of the
advantages for both the employer and employees are highlighted in the
following table:

Telecommuting Benefits

Employer Benefits

Employee Benefits

  • Allows for a larger pool of diverse employees when recruiting
  • Assists with retention efforts
  • Reduces organizational costs
  • Enhances employees’ personal lives and health
  • May enhance employee job satisfaction and organizational commitment levels
  • Autonomy

Interestingly enough in February
2013, the CEO of Yahoo (Marissa Mayer) implemented a policy to stop the
company’s popular working-from-home program. According to Cohan (2013), a
memo sent to Yahoo employees emphasized the following:

  • “We need to be one Yahoo!, and that starts with physically being together.”
  • “Some of the best decisions and insights come from hallway and
cafeteria discussions, meeting new people, and impromptu team meetings.”
  • “Speed and quality are often sacrificed when we work from home.”

Although Marissa Mayer of Yahoo has been widely criticized for her
decision, it is important to note that she has to look out for what is
in her organization’s best interest. As a CEO, difficult decisions must
be made that may not always satisfy and resonate with all employees.

Drawing on the material in the background readings and doing
additional research, please prepare a 4-5 page paper (not including the
cover and reference pages) in which you:

  • Analyze the pros and cons of telecommuting from a human resource
professional perspective and discuss the added value of telecommuting
when recruiting new talent. Also, what impact will telecommuting have on
    an organization’s overall image?
  • What trainings could you provide for efficient telecommuting?

Asset Securitization Structures?

As an assistant vice president at a regional bank, your boss has tasked you and the other AVPs to work in a group to acquire $100 million of residential mortgages to be securitized in a pass-through MBS. There must be between 250–300 mortgages in the portfolio, none of them with a maturity below 200 months or greater than 360 months. In the interest of time, your boss suggests that the group assign group members to find (meaning create some hypothetical) a group of diverse mortgages (meaning each with a different interest rate, principal amount, and maturity) and then as a group, aggregate each member’s mortgages into a pool to calculate the portfolio WAC and WAM. Your group’s task is to provide your boss with a summary spreadsheet that shows the individual mortgages and the portfolio’s WAC and WAM calculations, along with a memo of at least 300 words that explains the following:

  • The number of residential mortgages in the portfolio and the range of principal values, interest rates, and maturities
  • The residential mortgage portfolio’s WAC and WAM
  • A discussion of the WAC of the pass-through MBS the group has created and whether it represents a coupon rate indicative of a high credit quality or a lower credit quality pool of mortgages. Include in the discussion the MBS issue’s spread over the comparable Treasury rate.
  • Include in your analysis at least 1 outside source for the Treasury rate.

FM Unit 4 DB: Cost of Capital

write at least 500 words that respond to the following questions with

your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for

future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use

examples to reinforce your ideas.

  1. In the weighted average cost of capital formula, the after-tax cost
of debt is used instead of the before-tax cost of debt. However, no such
adjustment is made to the cost of equity. Are you surprised by this
different tax handling of debt versus equity? Why or why not?
  2. If a corporation borrowed all of the money for its project at
the risk-free rate, does that mean that the project’s cost of capital is
    the risk-free rate?
  3. When calculating the weighted average cost of capital, would it
matter more if book values instead of market values were used for
equity instead of debt? Please explain.

Be sure to document your posts with in-text citations, credible sources, and properly listed references.

Summons and complaints

Step 2: After completing your research, use the document below to create a Summons for the case that was outlined in the Module 03 Course Project Introduction. The last name for the parties in the introduction is Johnson (John Johnson and Mary Johnson). Find the correct trial courtroom in your state for this civil matter case of wrongful death. Use your state’s court information for the caption.

Summons

Step 3: Now view the Complaint shown below. Remember this is a wrongful death case and not a personal injury case. You will need to change the caption and the allegations to fit your scenario of the wrongful death case. You are only given a few details in the Introduction and can make up the rest of the allegations for your document to sustain a wrongful death case. Put both your Summons and Complaint on one document. Create the Summons on page 1 with the Complaint starting on page 2.

Complaint

Requirements:

  • Your paper must be at least two pages.
  • Your paper must address proper party names, proper caption, and proper allegations for a wrongful death case.
