Compare the results of the three (3) methods by quality of information for decision making

  • Required:
Compare the results of the three (3) methods by quality of information for decision making. Using what you have learned about the three (3) methods, identify the best project by the criteria of long term increase in value. (You do not need to do further research.) Convey your understanding of the Time Value of Money principles used or not used in the three (3) methods. Review the video titled “NPV, IRR, MIRR for Mac and PC Excel” (located at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7CryVgFbBc and previously listed in Week 4) to help you understand the foundational concepts:

    Scenario Information:
Assume that two gas stations are for sale with the following cash flows; CF1 is the Cash Flow in the first year, and CF2 is the Cash Flow in the second year. This is the time line and data used in calculating the Payback Period, Net Present Value, and Internal Rate of Return. The calculations are done for you. Your task is to select the best project and explain your decision. The methods are presented and the decision each indicates is given below.

    Investment Sales Price CF1 CF2
    Gas Station A $50,000 $0 $100,000
    Gas Station B $50,000 $50,000 $25,000

Three (3) Capital Budgeting Methods are presented:

    1. Payback Period: Gas Station A is paid back in 2 years; CF1 in year 1, and CF2 in year 2. Gas Station B is paid back in one (1) year. According to the payback period, when given the choice between two mutually exclusive projects, the investment paid back in the shortest time is selected.
    2. Net Present Value: Consider the gas station example above under the NPV method, and a discount rate of 10%:
      NPVgas station A = $100,000/(1+.10)2 – $50,000 = $32,644
      NPVgas station B = $50,000/(1+.10) + $25,000/(1+.10)2 – $50,000 = $16,115
    3. Internal Rate of Return: Assuming 10% is the cost of funds; the IRR for Station A is 41.421%.; for Station B, 36.602.

Summary of the Three (3) Methods:

    • Gas Station B should be selected, as the investment is returned in 1 period rather than 2 periods required for Gas Station A.
    • Under the NPV criteria, however, the decision favors gas station A, as it has the higher net present value. NPV is a measure of the value of the investment.
    • The IRR method favors Gas Station A. as it has a higher return, exceeding the cost of funds (10%) by the highest return.

Assignment 1: Identifying the Organizational Learning Issues

Suppose that your organization, or an organization with which you are familiar, is dealing with a major issue in transitioning individual learning (e.g., sharing knowledge, training programs, working as a team, experiences, procedures, processes, etc.) into organizational learning. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has asked you, as the Vice President of Human Resources, to assist with the issue and to help the organization transition its culture to this new way of learning. Before you provide any recommendations to address the issue, you must first research the root of the problem and the resistance to this transition.

Note: You may create and / or make all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment. In your original work, you may use aspects of existing processes from either your current or a former place of employment. However, you must remove any and all identifying information that would enable someone to discern the organization[s] that you have used.

Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

  1. Assess the organization’s culture as it relates to shared knowledge, then specify the significant issue(s) that you discovered with the culture. Determine the disconnect you observed between the culture and organizational learning using three (3) of the five (5) mystifications. Support your response with at least one (1) example of each selected mystification within the organization.
  2. Give your opinion on the current Organizational Learning Mechanism(s) (OLMs) that hinder organizational learning. Support your response with one (1) example of a training or learning initiative (e.g., sharing knowledge, training programs, working as a team, experiences, procedures, processes, etc.) and the outcome when it was applied to the organization.
  3. Determine which one (1) of the following OLMs is suitable for replacing the identified OLM(s) that hinder organizational learning as a corrective action to facilitate the transition from individual to organizational learning: Off-line/Internal, On-line/Internal, Off-line/External or On-line/External. Justify your selection.
  4. Evaluate the norms of the organization’s learning culture to determine the source(s) that currently prevent productive learning by applying two (2) of the following norms: inquiry, issue orientation, transparency, integrity or accountability. Provide at least one (1) example of each of the selected norms’ manifestation within the organization in your evaluation.
  5. Use at least five (5) quality academic references in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia does not qualify as an academic resource.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Examine the processes of how organizations learn and organizational barriers that impact the process.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in developing a learning organization.
  • Write clearly and concisely about developing a learning organization using proper writing mechanic.

Costco Wholesale Internal Analysis

I did my papers but my professor asked me to rewrite with his feedback and correct carefully answer. He needs his student to do on Strategic, not listing. His feedback on my papers “

“I. Your thinking about assets needs to be more strategic. It is true that CostCo assets include cash and property, plant and equipment. But you are doing a STRATEGY analysis. That is, you are thinking about actions in pursuit of superior performance. To create a list of assets appropriate for a strategy analysis, you need to tell WHAT KIND of property CostCo owns.(Intangible asset)

II. You hardly discuss strategically important intangible assets. You say CostCo strategy includes “improving their techniquest of merchandising to increase customers.” But does CostCo have excellent techniques of merchandising NOW that are important intangible assets?

III. You do not answer Question 3. “Apply the VRIO framework means you SEPARATELY analyze whether CostCo’s resources are 1) Valuable? 2) Rare? 3) costly to Imitate,?and 4) CostCo is Organized to take advantage of them. You do not do this. (Note also that there is an error in discussion of wine – if CostCo is the leading seller of wine, it must be selling MUCH MORE than half a million dollars worth of wine.

IV. I agree that a key part of CostCo’s competitive advantage is low and consistent pricing. If you had done a more strategic discussion of resources and VRIO in the earlier parts of the paper, you would be able to write a very good discussion of WHY CostCo is able to deliver low and consistent pricing here.
The discussion of new core competences in IT is helpful, but it would be better if you had mentioned CostCo’s IT assets earlier in the paper.

V. I don’t understand the layout of the SWOT table. Re-do SWOT.

VI. Thank you for a generally well formatted Works Cited list, and for properly citing information in the paper. On the list: Please in the future put the works in alphabetical order. Also, the Kline citation was omitted from the list.

I have to ask you to rewrite this paper. In the rewrite, please think about what resources are strategically important and include them in the list of assets(Intangible, and tangible asset: not listing, have to explain more detail). This should include intangible assets such as ability to merchandise.
Please redo the VRIO analysis, looking separately at whether the assets you decide are strategic are 1) Valuable 2) Rare, 3) costly to Imitate, 4) CostCo is Organized to benefit from them.”

I give you my papers file “Costco Wholesale” below and lecture for this chapter to use for this papers too. Please read carefully lecture and my papers. Find some good resources to help rewrite this paper. Follow requirement of my professor in his feedback above. Rewrite carefully. Thank you.
