Company Presentation The VP of Human Resource Management

For this final assignment, imagine that you are an HR manager on a global HRM planning committee. You are required to present to upper management six (6) main concerns related to global human resources matters.

You have compiled data about four (4) of those concerns in previous assignments, but you need to add two (2) more elements to the presentation.

The VP of Human Resource Management has asked you to present a PowerPoint presentation to upper management to discuss your previous findings. Those findings included culture in a global environment, expatriate turnover reduction, recruitment factors to consider for your selected country and important steps to consider in an on-boarding process.

In addition to presenting data of the previous assignments, the VP of Human Resources Management also wants you to discuss a compensation strategy that would support international operations in your company and to identify two or three (2-3) key strategies your company could use to enhance ethical behavior, labor relations, and work conditions.

Create a ten to fifteen (10-15) slide PowerPoint presentation in which you:

  1. Addressed concerns from prior assignment feedback.
    1. Share information you have learned about different cultures that exist in a global corporation and global market.
    2. Explain why expatriate turnover exists.
    3. Discuss recruitment strategies from one of the countries listed below. Your selected country should be the same as the country you selected for Assignment 3.

  • Greece
  • Portugal
  • South Africa
  • Morocco
  • Ghana
  • Canada
  • Mexico
  • Jamaica
  • Japan
  • South Korea
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Brazil
  • Australia

d. Explain an on-boarding process.

2. Recommend compensation strategies, as well as strategies that enhance ethics, labor relations, and work conditions.

3. Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
a. Format the PowerPoint presentation with headings on each slide and one (1) relevant graphic (photograph, graph, clip art, etc.). Ensure that the presentation is visually appealing and readable from up to 18 feet away. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
b. Include a title slide containing the title of the assignment, your name, your professor’s name, the course title, and the date.
c. Narrate each slide as if you were presenting them in a meeting, and write out detailed speaker notes. More information about narrating PowerPoint slides can be found here: https://support.office.com/en-au/article/Record-a-…

Use the APA format to reference your work, including in-text references when necessary. See the APA Guide located in the Student Center tab.

Rehabilitating the Arrogant (!) Engineer

One challenge to writing the best possible e-mail, text message, memo, or letter is to develop a clear idea of exactly who will be reading your words. Understanding your audience is an important part of any writing task.

As the authors of The Essentials of Technical Communication maintain, you should “Always analyze your reader as carefully as possible, particularly the reader’s frame of reference and attitude toward both you and the subject” (p. 126). The executive summary of an engineering proposal, for example, should be written for the layperson and not the professional engineer, just as an engineering standards manual must be written with a clear sense of the engineer-reader’s technical background.

Yet many professional engineers are criticized for being too arrogant, or valuing their own technical knowledge above the unique knowledge and accomplishments of less-technical users. While writing our daily documents, we must keep this in mind and try to understand our audience without diminishing their own abilities.

Read the short article, “Rehabilitating the Arrogant Engineer” at

http://pandodaily.com/2012/08/08/rehabilitating-the-arrogant-engineer/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Then, write a post here that responds to this article and shares your own thoughts on this important subject. As an engineer, how do you deal with the frustration of working with non-technical users? Why is it important to remain courteous and even-tempered in our professional lives? Can you give an example of a particularly challenging incident in your own student or professional career? Finally, how does understanding our audience help us in our technical writing as an engineering professional?

Your post should be about 200 words long.

After you make your post, come back to this forum and read a few of your classmates’ posts. Post a response to at least three of your peer’s comments before the due date for this Discussion assignment. Be sure to provide a thoughtful response: don’t just say, “I agree” or “You are so right!” Use these responses as a way of beginning a dialogue with other class members.

Important: please see the Online Discussion Participation Grading Criteria document posted with this assignment. These are the criteria that I will use to grade this and all future Discussion assignments.

Description: “Before the internet, renting a surfboard, a power tool or a parking space from someone else was feasible, but was usually more trouble than it was worth. Now websites such as Airbnb, RelayRides, Zilok, and SnapGoods match up owners and renters; smartphones with GPS let people see where the nearest rentable car is parked; social networks provide a way to check up on people and build trust; and online payment systems handle the billing.” ( 1Economist). In this assignment, we focus on sharing economy as a rising sector of the global economy. The goal of this essay is to provide a holistic view of both upside and downside of this economy and the business models operating in it.

Backed by research and sufficient evidence, your essay need to provide answers to these issues.

• What are the benefits of starting a company in this economy? (3 main benefits) Find an example of a company that operates in food, education, home and office, idea generation and funding, or leisure/ travel and explain how such benefits apply to this company?

o Be creative! The example should not be any company I discussed in class or examples from the textbook.

  • What are some of the downside of sharing economy? (3 major downsides) o These downsides could be from economy’s perspective, worker’s perspective, or government’s perspective. 1 http://www.economist.com/news/leaders/21573104-internet-everything-hire-rise-sharing-economy
  • Make salient and feasible suggestions (supported by research) that help remedy (or at least) reduce these downsides? Are the real-world efforts in line with your suggestions? (you may need to read some recent news on the topic to get an idea)

Instructions for the assignment:

  • All questions must be answered. Your essay should not have any parts, bullet-points or sections; submit one essay that follows this structure: introduction, your arguments, conclusion (no subheadings then)
  • You must be creative in your responses. The answers should not be related to the textbook content and class cases. If any point in your essay is too similar to textbook materials, the assignment will not be considered complete.

Project 2: Toulmin Argument

Instructions

Please carefully read the following assignment details in its entirety.

Choosing a topic:

This Toulmin project will help you practice what you have learned so far in this course.

  1. First, you will choose a topic of interest. Make sure that you choose a public debate with clear sides and stakes (see attachment to understand what this means!).
  2. Then, you need to research that debate to narrow the topic’s scope, so it can be easily discussed within the word count range.
    • For example, you may be interested in learning more about traffic issues in the United States. However, that topic is too large to cover for this assignment. After researching peer reviewed articles that discuss US traffic issues in general, you may discover that the metro system in the District of Columbia is underfunded and underutilized. Through your research, you find that you can make a claim that more funds should be made available in order to upgrade the metro system, which would improve traffic issues in the District of Columbia. This would make for a stronger and more specific argument. View the handout on sides and stakes that can help with this process.

Finding sources:

As you’ll see from the requirements of the assignment (listed in the requirements section of these instructions), you need to find peer-reviewed sources using the APUS databases. From the library welcome page, click on Advanced Search at the bottom of the page and then check the “peer reviewed” sources box filter.

This video will hopefully clarify the term, “peer-reviewed”. You may use eBooks; however, as discussed in your textbook, books generally are not as current as peer-reviewed articles. You may also use primary sources (interviews, statistics, etc); however, these primary sources should be obtained from experts within that field. If you cannot find strong sources for your chosen topic, then change your topic. If you have a question about the validity of a source, please email me, or post your question to the open forum.

Structure of the argument:

Make sure to include the following sections in your project regardless of the type of essay you choose to do:

an introduction and claim,
background,
body,
and a conclusion.

Within the body of your essay, make sure to include the following in any order:

support for your claim,
opposing or alternate views,
the strengths and weaknesses of your opponents’ claims,
and your rebuttals of their claims.

The Project:

For this assignment, you have creative options. This will not be a “traditional” essay, so part of the challenge is trying to apply the Toulmin model to a real situation in which you might use it, especially considering your topic choice and intended audience. Choose what will challenge your writing and what would be appropriate for your topic, audience, and field of study:

  • Op-ed newspaper article.
  • Blog post.
  • Letter/proposal to stakeholders.
  • Press release.
  • Letter to the editor.
  • Presidential address.
  • Election speech (written only).
  • Application for a position related to the topic.
  • Defense attorney’s opening statement.
  • Meeting or conference speech (written only).
  • Report to supervisor or colleagues.
  • Case brief.
  • Advocacy statement.
  • Call to action paper.

You might need to do a bit of Googling on the type of document you decide to write. For instance, if you choose to write a defense attorney’s opening statement, you’ll want to find out how that is structured by looking up examples and tips. In terms of format, since this is not a traditional essay, use the format appropriate to the option you’ve chosen; for example, a blog will look like a typical Internet blog; a case brief will look like a typical case brief, etc. Note: Regardless of the option/format, you must cite your sources both within the body of the essay and in a final reference page. The citations must be cited correctly using APA, MLA, or Chicago, whichever is appropriate to your field of study.

***In the title page, state which document type you’ve chosen so that I know how to grade it, such as stating “letter to the editor”***

Requirements:

  • PURPOSE: To persuade using the Toulmin model
  • AUDIENCE: The applicable audience for the type of document you’ve chosen to write.
  • LENGTH: approximately 500 – 1000 words (Times New Roman font)
  • SOURCES: A minimum of 3 with at least 1 from the library, and at least 1 from a professional journal or organization
  • FORMAT: The citation style that is appropriate for your discipline: APA, MLA, or Chicago
  • DUE: SUNDAY 11:55 pm EST

**Remember that all work submitted is to be your own original work except where properly acknowledged and cited. Do not reuse work, papers, or speeches from previous (or concurrent) classes as this violates APUS academic integrity policies. (Make sure to note the section on self-plagiarism.) **
