Assignment Choice #1: MBTI Assessment Outcomes

Discuss and analyze the MBTI outcomes for yourself and for your teammates. Based on the MBTI insights, consider:

  1. How you might improve your working relationships with your teammates.
  2. What, if any, changes you may want to make in your team (roles, duties, responsibilities, composition, or other factors).
  3. What, if any, changes you could make in your own interactions and behaviors to increase the effectiveness of your team in its project mission.

Your paper should be 3-4 pages long, follow the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements, contain concepts from the reading materials, and apply to reality-based scenarios. Be sure to incorporate your insights and analysis of the materials and your experiences in order to provide an original and thoughtful paper. You may wish to review the grading rubric found on the Course Information page to see the criteria that will be used to evaluate your paper.

Assignment Choice #2: Exploring Professional Leadership Styles

For this assignment option, interview a colleague/mentor/manager whose leadership style we have explored in this class thus far and that you admire. First, create an outline of questions you will use to interview the colleague/mentor/manager. After conducting the interview, create a Power Point presentation that incorporates the following:

  1. The leadership style selected with definition and key characteristics
  2. The interview questions asked
  3. Insight gained from the interviewee responses and your analysis
  4. How you will incorporate this information into your organization

Your presentation should contain at least 10 slides or enough information for a 5-8 minute presentation. It should follow the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements, contain concepts from the reading materials, and apply to reality-based scenarios. You will need to include a references slide at the end of your PowerPoint presentation.

Find an activity associated with the city and the arts or entertainment and go there — in person or virtually! Your venue MUST be a venue supported by public tax dollars. Please be safe and respect Covid-19 social distancing protocols. Be safe.

If you are in Wichita, consider the Veterans’ Memorials on the river or the Keeper of the Plains. Check out the websites for Botanica, Exploration Place or InTrust Bank Arena! This could be a reflection on an event or space you have visited in the past.

If you can get “Out and About” safely — Please do so. But please be safe and use your virtual resources.

Scenario 1: Beta Technology has a system of monitoring employees’
computers using software that captures a screen image every 60 seconds.
reviewing the results, you notice that an employee checked Facebook
after work today. While you are not concerned that the employee called
in sick to work on Friday and subsequently posted pictures of himself
drinking excessively on the same day.

You notice that the
employee’s Facebook profile set to private which means you only have
access to this information because of the company’s software. On further
examination, you notice that this employee has a pattern of calling in
sick on Fridays, and in reviewing past monitoring reports you see a
pattern of similar behavior. Sick time is supposed to be used only in
the event of an illness or injury. 

Scenario 2: To help keep
employees safe from potential violence, Beta Technology has a written
“no weapons” policy. Employees are prohibited from bringing weapons onto
any company property, including parking lots. Signs are posted warning
employees that their cars and personal belongings are subject to random
searches.

One morning, Jeff was stopped when entering the
parking lot. The company decided to conduct random searches of all blue
vehicles that day and Jeff was driving a blue Dodge Ram truck. The
security guards found Jeff’s shotgun and an automatic pistol. When
removing the pistol from the vehicle, the guards also found a bag of
marijuana and some drug paraphernalia.

Drama Paper: Mini-research paper (4-5 pages, Times Roman 12, double-spaced)

 In this paper, as in our previous assignments, you will be doing a close reading, but with two differences: (1) this paper asks you to examine two works and compare/contrast them, and (2) this paper requires research.  In this paper, you will compare and contrast Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll House.  Your larger purpose in comparing/contrasting them is to consider the concept of tragedy.  Your thesis should make an assertion about the nature of tragedy in both works.

 This paper will address the following questions:

  • How are these two plays different?  Do these differences tell us something about the nature of tragedy?
  • How are these two plays similar?  Do these similarities tell us something about the nature of tragedy, or about the difference between Shakespearean drama and “modern” theater?

In this assignment, you are confined to discussing these two plays, but within this framework, you are free to choose what order to address these questions in and how to create a thesis that focuses your discussion.  Feel free to emphasize comparison and de-emphasize contrast or vice-versa, as long as in some way you have done both.  Be sure to give equal time to both plays, however.

It is also up to you how to use research in this paper.  My recommendation is that you use it to bolster your discussion of tragedy, drawing from scholarly sources to create your definitions, but you may also want to use articles on the plays themselves to help with your readings.  This is fine, as long as the following conditions are met:

  1. All sources must be cited correctly using MLA documentation.  This includes (1) in-text citations and (2) a Works Cited page.
  2. You must use at least five sources.  There is no maximum: if you would like to include more sources, that’s fine, but since our objective is close reading, it’s definitely not necessary.

Length: This is a lot of material to cover in 4-5 pages.  This means you need to be very concise.  Do not go over five pages!  Less is more.

  • Quotes that are fewer than than two lines long are in the body of the paragraph.
