Life History Theory is a branch of biology that aims to understand the timing of key events, such as age of first reproduction (sexual maturity), within a species’ lifespan. Because resources are limited (i.e. food, water, shelter, and mates are finite and difficult to acquire), there are trade-offs in how energy is allocated to secure these resources during an individual’s lifespan. What are some of these trade-off’s and how do they differ between males and females?

In-N-Out Business Strategy

In-N-Out Burger as a franchise has developed a business strategy which consist of growing slowly, yet steadily (Cafferky, 2012, p. 587). After reading the case study on In-N-Out, I can conclude the restaurant’s leadership values quality, precision, and loyalty. My assumption is their strategy is slow to insure they make the right decisions and are successful in all they do. If the company rushed it could lead to a decrease in the company’s quality. Slow and steady wins the race. In 2006, the plan was for In-N-Out to open 10 to 12 stores a year for the next five years. I believe this franchise is wise to continue to grow, yet in increments. Some negatives to this strategy in the long-term is this restaurant could be choked out of existence. As other restaurant franchises grow quickly and move across the nation and into other countries. In-N-Out’s niche of simplicity and quality could be lost in the rapid development of competitors. However, I believe this will not be a huge problem for In-N-Out Burger. It may be wise for their leadership to investigate ways to prevent this from happening. A business strategy must be effective and efficient, yet hard-to-imitate (Teece, 2010, p. 180). In-N-Out Burger, has a hard strategy to overcome by the quality they hold in their product which, so many competitors rarely think about. Competitors in the fast-food industry often have plans for fast, cheap, and easy. In-N-Out has none of these qualities in their business strategy.

Product Development

Health services continue to affect the gross domestic product, and this dramatic transformation has great demands on each dollar spent to deliver patient-centered products. Health care marketing must be repeatedly applied and practiced strategically to include environmental dimensions, such as technology, socioeconomics, competition, and regulatory.

That being said, in today’s global economy, investors and potential entrepreneurs must tap into the so-called “unexplored” market. In this aspect, health care establishments must utilize marketing, advertising, as well as sales strategies when pursuing new customers (e.g., suppose a health care investor wanted to build a small hospital in a rural community); this would entail exploration and logistical experimentation to determine who will patronize the facility. In an impoverished neighborhood, the feasibility of having lucrative profits may see diminishing returns, and so the venture may be not worth the effort. Also, suppose that the potential investor wants to sell mosquito deterrents (e.g., bedside netting in malaria-infested regions of Asia or Africa); then it would be wise to investigate the number of beds that are actually in the village, and who would be willing to purchase them. These activities take into account the investor portfolio, as well as the feasibility of marketing and selling the product. Such exploration also examines competitors, cultural differences, and—most important—identification of the customer.

Identify a local health care establishment (e.g., hospital, rehabilitation center, emergency medical center) and determine its product development practices. Utilize concepts from previous weeks to substantiate information, as needed. You may develop the discussion based on the ideas presented here, but feel free to inject any salient marketing strategy that you believe might support your presentation.

Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

  1. Justify the purpose of the selected health care establishments’ product(s) / service (s) and their associated life cycle(s).
  2. Suggest one (1) strategy to improve the marketing mix of the selected health care establishment. Support your strategy by highlighting one (1) benefit of (1) portfolio analysis and providing two (2) examples that display differential advantages.

All members of Congress are at one time or another confronted with the question: Should they vote according to their conscience or to the will of their constituents back home? In many cases, the answer is not easy. As political scholars have noted, voter input is often lacking on routine, complex, or “non-salient” issues. On other issues, voters may register opinions that are ill-informed or contradictory. In each of these cases, what is a lawmaker to do? Should a lawmaker pledge only to vote according to what he or she thinks is best? Or, should members of Congress consistently seek out voter input on all matters, even if voters do not seemingly care about the issue? Observations (250-350 words, 10 points):

Using direct quotes and descriptions of the client’s behavior, explain how the client meets DSM-IV criteria for the disorder you have diagnosed. Explain clearly how he or she meets each criterion. Briefly explain if the client does not meet some of the diagnostic criteria. The description of symptoms should be the “meat” of your paper – based on this description, it should be clear that this is the best diagnosis for the client. 

Differential Diagnosis (125-200 words, 8 points):

Differential diagnosis is the process of differentiating two disorders with similar symptoms. This is an essential part of every diagnosis, since clients often present with complex symptoms and it can be very difficult to tell which is the “right” diagnosis. This section should discuss why the diagnosis given to this client is the best possible diagnosis, rather than other, similar diagnoses. You should discuss at least one other disorder. Explain how someone might initially think that the client meets some of the criteria for this other disorder, but then explain why that is not right, and the client actually better meets criteria for the disorder you have chosen.
