2 part anthropology discussion board

This week we are talking about marriage and family. Many people in the United States confuse marriage and weddings. A wedding is one day, while a marriage is expected to be the rest of your life, until death or divorce. Marriages can be religious or secular. They provide some economic stability when it comes to sharing assets, buying cars and houses; access to medical care; as well as providing for children. But with approximately 1/2 of all marriages in the U.S. ending in divorce; what are your thoughts about having marriage licenses expire every 5 to 10 years with an option to renew or not? It would be changing the ‘until death do us part’ clause. What would this do to the ‘institution’ of marriage? Also think about ‘common law’ marriage (living together for 7 years means you are married in some states) when discussing this weeks topic.

The Constitution

** DUE BY 10 PM EST***

700 WORDS

BLUEBOOK FORMAT-(SEE ATTACHMENTS)

The Constitution is the framework for the organization of the United States government and for the relationship of the federal government with the States, citizens, and all people within the United States. The Constitution has been amended twenty-seven times, the last occurring in 1992.

To assist in better understanding the Constitution, please answer the following question: Of the twenty-seven Constitutional amendments, which one is most important? Why?

There is obviously no wrong answer, so your analysis in support of the amendment you choose is key. (Note: Here are two arguments from a previous term that I did not find overly persuasive – the first amendment, because it is number one, and, the twenty-first amendment, because it brought alcohol back to college campuses).

Why is this forum so important? Sadly, a high percentage of Americans do not know basic information about the Constitution.

Here are some examples:

“What is the supreme law of the land?” Seventy-percent of the 1,000 citizens polled by Newsweek could not answer the “Constitution.”

Sixty-one percent didn’t know that the length of a U.S. senator’s term is six years, 63 percent couldn’t name the number of Supreme Court justices on the bench (nine), and 86 percent didn’t know that 435 members fill the U.S. House of Representatives.

And finally, fifty percent could not name an amendment to the Constitution, and twenty percent said the Constitution has never been amended.

Risk management mitigation plan

Read the following scenario:

Company M designs, manufactures, and sells electronic door locks for commercial buildings. The company has approximately 1,500 employees in three locations around the United States and generates $50 million in annual revenues. Over 5,000 wholesalers and distributors access the Company M business-to-business (B2B) Web site to place orders and track fulfillment.

In the past year, Company M experienced 22 information security incidents, most of which involved lost or stolen laptops, tablet PCs, and smartphones. In addition, the company dealt with four serious malware events that originated from an unpatched server, an insecure wireless network used in the manufacturing plant, an insecure remote connection used by a sales person, and a headquarters employee who downloaded a game from the Internet to her workstation. Three of the malware incidents resulted in files that were erased from the company’s sales database, which had to be restored, and one incident forced the B2B Web site to shut down for 24 hours.

You are tasked to give a presentation to the CEO and other IT management. Please ensure that the presentation addresses the following questions:

Identify and discuss technological and financial risks that Company M faces.

Which domains of the IT infrastructure were involved during the four malware events?

What types of security policies should Company M institute to mitigate those risks?

answer the question

Please answer three (3) of the following questions:

1. The story focuses on two characters, Sonny and his (unnamed) brother; the unnamed brother tells the story. What is each brother like? How are they different? What do they have in common? Which brother do you sympathize with more? Why?

2. Harlem is a powerful presence in the story. Describe how this world has positively and negatively shaped each brother. Is it a more hospitable world than the South their parents knew?

3. Light and darkness are woven together throughout the story. They begin with the narrator’s awareness of the “darknesses” that fill his students as they rage against “the low ceiling of their actual possibilities” and end in the final paragraph, with the glow of the drink in the darkness. Trace the images of light and darkness throughout the story, paying special attention to the racial implications of these images.

4. Music is key to this story, particularly jazz. What does music express for the people of Harlem? For Sonny? For the narrator at different points in the story? Why is the story called “Sonny’s Blues” when the music Sonny plays is jazz?

5. Re-read the final two paragraphs of the story. What has the narrator learned? What have you, as a reader, learned?
