Oligopoly and Game Theory

You may have noticed the discussion in Taylor (2014) at the end of
Chapter 10 about oligopoly and the prisoner’s dilemma. The prisoner’s
dilemma is an example of game theory. A “game” is like a board game, as
your optimal move depends on what your opponent does. The same holds
in oligopoly, as your own decisions as to what price to charge or how
much to produce depend on what your competitors do.

Take a look at the following video that tries to illustrate oligopoly and game theory through a Batman movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMq059SAQXM

Hello Class,

I believe that both the Batman video and the other video I found
helped explain the concept of game theory. According to Jacob Clifford
(2016), game theory is the “study of strategic decision making.”

Initially, I wasn’t able to think of any situations that game theory
is useful for. However, when I started to think about it, I may have an
example. As my example, I am the head coach for a basketball team who is
playing against their rival. Player A is the rival team’s best
offensive player while Player B is my best defender. However, he isn’t a
good free-throw shooter. The scenario I will use is when the game is
close with a couple of minutes left in the 4th quarter. The four options
are: sub Player B in when Player A is subbed in to limit his
effectiveness while having the risk of being intentionally fouled to
disrupt the rhythm of the team, don’t sub Player B in when Player A is
subbed in to not disrupt the rhythm of the team while risking Player A
to be effective, sub Player B in when Player A isn’t subbed in to bring
extra defensive help while having the risk of being intentionally fouled
to disrupt the rhythm of the team, or neither player gets subbed in to
avoid disrupting the rhythm of the team, but sacrifice better defense.

Personally, I found the math equations/computations we’ve used in
class to be easier to follow. I enjoy working with numbers so clear-cut
equations are my “friends.”

I have watched a few of ACDCLeadership’s videos and have found them all corny, but easy to follow and learn from. I think the corniness of the videos helps the learning process. Rather listening to someone drone on about a potentially boring topic ACDCLeadership’s antics helped to keep my attention. I chose to watch a few different videos on concept of game theory to compare it to ACDCLeadership’s video. All were interesting, but I found myself starting to just listen to the other videos. A great example is about 1 minute into FLT Warwick’s video I started typing this narrative as the video played in the background. I find this topic interesting and could easily see how it can be useful. In the video Intro to Game Theory and the Dominant Strategy Equilibriumthe narrator talks about the prisoner dilemma, which shows that game theory can be used in numerous aspects of a person life. One simple example is using game theory to determine which investment firm would be best to use. I find game theory easier to use quickly as opposed to doing math equations/computations.

Paper: The Invisible Cure

Based on class notes and your reading of The Invisible Cure, write an essay on the cultural, political and social structural factors, past and present, that have made the HIV outbreak particularly severe in sub-Saharan Africa and what we have learned about how to deal with such an outbreak. Provide specific evidence from the book to back up your claims.

A good answer will be broad and synthetic. In particular, your essay should address these sets of questions:

  • What does the title of the book means? Is there, in fact, an invisible cure, and if so, what is it? How does it work? How reliable is it?
  • What factors worsened the outbreak? What factors, both current and historic, made Uganda more successful than many richer countries like South Africa or Botswana at curtailing the spread of HIV?
  • What is collective efficacy? How can collective efficacy work for controlling outbreaks of more easily communicable diseases, like Ebola or measles?

While some of you may write more expansively than others, this assignment should run five to six double-spaced pages.

Improvements for email template design, graphic design homework help

I want to improve my design for an email template.  I attached a zip file with the html file and the images used in it.

I want the design to be simple, yet eye catching.  A design that makes people want to attend the meetings.

Please make changes to the template provided, to improve its overall appearance.

I also need help with some things:

1.  I want the two red arrows pointing right to be closer together and maybe a little thicker.  I used an html code ” ❯ “, for the arrows.  They look fine in my text editor (see picture below), but when I view them on a web browser, they look different.  I would like them to look like the picture if possible.

2.  The text and light red box underneath the “Southern California Edison” section to be centered, like how it is in the photo.  When viewed on a web browser, this section is aligned to the right for some reason.

3.  The arrow above the “Become a Member” section to look more like the image attached below.  Also, I don’t want any white space around it to show.

4.  Fix the social media icons on the bottom to match the red/black theme.  Also, I want a good/creative way to display these icons.  If there is a better way to display them than how they are currently displayed.

5.  Lastly, I need an area on the bottom of the template where I can put info of the sender who sent the email.  Such as name, title, contact info.  I’m not sure how to display this.

Prepare a PowerPoint presentation

One truism of instructional design and performance management is that you get what you measure. Training objectives are essential to all development. They support the outcomes of the course, and good training objectives support the overall curriculum and the strategies of the organization.

Prepare a PowerPoint presentation that addresses the following elements of instructional design:

  1. Explain the purpose of training objectives.
  2. Describe how training objectives align with course outcomes.
  3. Learning objectives vary greatly by the topic and outcome for the course. Compare the differences and similarities of training objectives for a behavioral course, such as leadership skills, and those of a more technical course, such as lean manufacturing techniques.
  4. Propose a process for an organization to implement that aligns course training objectives, curriculum learning outcomes, and strategic organizational goals.

You must include a minimum of 2 scholarly references.

Nursing Theory Analysis Paper, writing homework help

Assignment 2: Nursing Theory Analysis Paper

Overview/Description:

The purpose of this assignment is to describe, evaluate and discuss application of a nursing grand or mid-range theory. This assignment also provides the learner an opportunity to connect theory and research to nursing phenomena. Learners will develop an 8-10 page paper (excluding the title page and references) using APA style to address the elements listed below.

Theory/Author Name and Background

  1. Select a Grand or Mid-Range Theory that is appropriate to your practice setting.
  2. Describe the theorist’s background in detail and discuss how their experiences have impacted the theory development.
  3. Examine crucial references for the original and/or current work of the theorist and other authors writing about the selected theory.
  4. Identify the phenomenon of concern or problems addressed by the theory.

Theory Description

  1. Explain whether the theory uses deductive, inductive or retroductive reasoning. Provide evidence to support your conclusion.
  2. Describe the major concepts of the theory. How are they defined? (theoretically and/or operationally) Is the author consistent in the use of the concepts and other terms in the theory?
  3. Interpret how the concepts are defined. Implicitly or explicitly?
  4. Examine the relationships (propositions) among the major concepts.

Evaluation

  1. Identify explicit and implicit assumptions (values/beliefs) underlying the theory. On what assumptions does the theory build?
  2. Examine if the theory has a description of the four concepts of the nursing metaparadigm. If so, how are they explained in the theory? If the metapardigm is not explained, what elements do you see as relevant to the theory and why?
  3. Discuss the clarity of the theory. Did it have lucidness and consistency?

Application

  1. Examine how the theory would guide nursing actions.
  2. Describe specifically how you can use this theory in your area of nursing (Practice, Education, Informatics or Administration).

visa invitation letter rewrite

Following is the draft for a visa invitation letter.

1)Please edit it especially the second paragraph, you could add more details to make it more touching.

2) Please check grammar, spelling and formatting.

MM DD, 2015

Dear Visa
Officer,

I,
XXX(passport #: XXX), is writing this letter to support of the F-2 visa
application for my wife XXX (passport #: XXX). I am currently attending
full-time at Devry University. Though life here is much more stressful than before,
I am getting accustomed to it. However, my biggest emotional problem is being
apart from my wife, XXX. Hence, I sincerely hope that my wife can join me in the United States and stay with me until I complete my studies here.

My wife and I have been in love
with each other since we were students in XX University. During these almost
seven years, she is the only sunshine in my life. I will never forget the sweet
memories we collected: every day in college we studied together and ate
together, the promise
we made to each other when we graduated. The scene that she held my hands and
told me everything will be fine when my Mom is in the hospital. After I made a
proposal to her last year, we final got married. I hope we could be together no matter what happens.
What we want now is very simple, staying together and making our lives much
sweeter. Please give us a chance to realize it. I greatly appreciate your time to process
her application. If you have any questions, please
feel free to contact me.

Sincerely
yours,

XXX

QUESTION

The Church’s first Council (Conference, pp. 297-298) revealed some differences in ideas of ministry and mission between Paul and the Church in Jerusalem. What was the subject matter of the council? What were some of the differences in opinion? Do you think that the early church’s experience in dealing with these differences can be helpful for dealing with differences in the church today?

Polar bear extinction

Before you write your actual paper, you will need to write a proposalAKA Paper 1 — where you tell me what you are interested in and what you hope to accomplish

Your Research Proposal (Paper 1) should include the following:

  • Your proposed research topic: At least one paragraph of discussion in which you tell me why you are interested in this topic and what you hope to learn from your inquiry;
  • An annotated bibliography of at least four new sources of information about the topic. Your bibliography should follow standard MLA bibliographic format; follow instructions available at the OWL at Purdue, which I’ve linked to here. This will be the longest part of your proposal.
  • Warning: an annotated bibliography is different from an non-annotated bibliography. Be sure to click on the link above;
  • You may use articles and ideas you have already cited in discussion. For your paper you will be able also to use readings we have discussed in class, but they shouldn’t be part of the annotated bibliography included in your proposal.
  • When you are ready but no later than the proposal deadline, prepare and submit an accessible file (Word, Open Office, not a pdf) named after yourlast name and the assignment, such as “SmithPaper1docx”.
  • Dates and Deadlines:Wednesday Nov. 27. Research Proposal deadlineSunday, Dec. 8: Research paper (essay 3) due 11:59 PM

Case Scenario?

Background:

The defendant is a forty-year-old, single, black female charged with a first-degree assault. Specifically, she is alleged to have splashed liquid fire, a liquid drain cleaner, onto another woman’s face, thus incidentally splashing five bystanders. Per the court order you received, Ms. Tyler was referred some time after the alleged crime for evaluation of her criminal responsibility. Her competency to stand trial (CST) was also at issue. At the time of the evaluation, Ms. Tyler was being held at the Southern County Detention Center. You met with Ms. Tyler. The defendant was informed that the results of the evaluation will be released to the court and that the results may be used against her in the court. Ms. Tyler gave her written consent to be evaluated.

Psychosocial History:

Only limited information is available regarding Ms. Tyler’s background. She is a lifetime resident of the state. Her mother died of cancer at the age of seventy-nine years. Her father, L. Defendant, is eighty-four years old and is a retired farmer. Ms. Tyler has five living sisters, four living brothers, and two deceased siblings. Three of her sisters have received inpatient psychiatric treatment. One sister lives in Close Town, one in Europe with her husband who is in the military, and one sister died in a drowning accident. One brother committed suicide by hanging himself. There is no history of psychiatric problems among the other brothers.

Ms. Tyler has completed the tenth grade. She is literate. Ms. Tyler has worked on an assembly line for five years until 1988 when the factory closed. She then did an office-cleaning job. Her reasons for leaving this position are vague. She was unemployed for several years and was supported by her family. She lives in rent-free government housing. Her church pastor, A. Reverend, arranged for her to get employment at Helpful Industries through a vocational office at the State Psychiatric Hospital. She was employed at Helpful Industries for approximately two months prior to the incident. Ms. Tyler has never married. She has a thirteen-year-old son who lives with his father.

Psychiatric History:

Ms. Tyler denies any previous psychiatric treatment. Family members and individuals who know Ms. Tyler state that she has a long history of psychiatric symptoms such as loose associations and persecutory delusions. Ms. Tyler’s sister, Ms. Sister, reports that Ms. Tyler has been violent in the past, threatening her niece with a knife. Her emotional difficulties were also apparently common knowledge among her congregation. As stated above, Ms. Tyler has a positive family history for psychiatric illness. Ms. Tyler is currently on haloperidol, an antipsychotic medication.

Ms. Tyler denies any alcohol or substance abuse. She states that she has one previous arrest for prostitution in 1975. She spent six months in jail for this offense.

Report of the Crime:

When asked to report what happened, Ms. Tyler states, “It happened so fast, I just remember, I threw it on her. I didn’t mean to.” She continues, “I threw liquid fire on her. She always caused me trouble . . . She picked with me all the time . . . Sometimes she would step on my feet. I did not mean to do it, it happened so quick I did not understand myself. That morning when I went to church, I was standing by a table and she came over, starting trouble with me . . . Came over and said my name.”

Ms. Tyler was guarded in her responses, and at one point, she asked what the court would do with her if she said, “just didn’t know why I did it.” Her report conflicts with several eyewitness reports. All the eyewitnesses who were interviewed claimed that Ms. Tyler yelled at Ms. Mobly. Mr. Witness 1 states that Ms. Tyler approached Ms. Mobly and said, “I’m getting sick and tired of you picking on me every day at church.” He states that she then started splashing Ms. Mobly with the drain cleaner. Ms. Witness 2’s account is similar. She states, “As soon as Ms. Mobly entered, Ms. Tyler grabbed her purse and started throwing the solution on her saying ‘told you I was gonna get you. I’m tired of you getting me in trouble.'”

Ms. Witness 3’s report of the incident is also similar. Additionally, Ms. Witness 3 states that Ms. Tyler would frequently deny making threats when confronted with an issue, claiming that she did not make such a threat or did not remember making it. Ms. Witness 3 also states that Ms. Tyler reported experiencing auditory hallucinations telling her to get people. However, Ms. Tyler has consistently denied hallucinations.

Tasks:

In a 8- to 10-page report, analyze this case and address the following to the best of your abilities:

  • What tests or assessments would you recommend to provide a comprehensive diagnostic assessment of Ms. Tyler?
  • Provide diagnostic impressions based upon the case and the tests you have recommended. Provide an explanation or a rationale for how you arrived at this diagnosis.
  • What are the psycholegal issues to be assessed? What are the standards used to evaluate these issues (i.e., discuss the relevant court decisions and holdings)?
  • What tests should be administered and why? What is the empirical support for the tests you have suggested?
  • What other information do you need to offer an opinion on whether Ms. Tyler is competent to stand trial?
  • What other information do you need to offer an opinion as to whether Ms. Tyler met the legal criteria for insanity at the time of the offense?
  • What outcomes do you expect will be reached by the court with regard to these issues and why?
  • What are the potential ethical issues involved in this case? How would you resolve these issues?

Use resources from professional literature in your analysis. Professional literature may include relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov).

Teenage Pregnancy and Public Policy, Management Homework Help

The Final Project: Policy Analysis Paper that was assigned in the Week 1 is due by Day 7 of this week. This paper will demonstrate your understanding of, and ability to apply and critically evaluate, the major concepts, theories, and processes presented in this course.

Please be sure your Final Project adheres to the criteria stated in the Final Project Guidelines located in this week’s Learning Resources.

In your 15- to 18-page Final Project, you should include the following:

  • Executive Summary: Describe the public policy problem of interest to you, the scope of the problem, and a capsule summary of your recommended course of action. (1–2 paragraphs)
  • Introduction and Problem Definition: Explain why the problem is important. Why should the decision-maker care about this issue? (1–2 pages)
  • Issue Analysis: Explain in detail, supported by scholarly resources, the scope of the public policy problem. You should describe the stakeholders (e.g., branches of government, interest groups, nonprofit organizations, media, the bureaucracy, etc.) connected to the problem. (3–4 pages)
  • Proposed Solutions: You are not expected to detail every possible approach to the issue you selected. However, based on your research, select 3 or 4 potential solutions that directly address the public policy problem you selected. It is important that you explain which stakeholders would be proponents and which would be opponents of each policy alternative you identify, and why, and the implications of their being for or against the alternative(s). You should make clear to the decision-maker the complexities involved with each proposed solution you analyze. (7–8 pages)
  • Policy Recommendation: Choose one of the alternatives to the public policy problem you selected and explain, based on scholarly materials you have examined, why it t is best suited to address the problem. Be sure to address opportunities and challenges of implementing your recommendation given any relevant political, social, economic, or cultural considerations. Additionally, explain what, if any, social justice and/or ethical issues are impacted by your recommended policy alternative. (3–4 pages)

You are expected to support your arguments and perspectives with citations in APA format. Approximately 5–10 scholarly resources, at a minimum, should be referenced within the Final Project.
