Reflective Journal 1

Day 1:

Do you believe that it is genetics, environment or both that determine behavior? Provide specific examples and explain your response.

Day 2:

How does your culture contribute to the way that you interact with your social world? If you are an American then think about your subculture which could be race, geographic location, etc.?

Day 3:

Social media has dramatically impacted the way that we interact with and view our social world. Some researchers have argued that it has negatively impacted communication skills. Others have reported that social media has increased the need to only project your best self or keep up with others and this has contributed to a rise in depression. How do you feel social media is shaping the way that people respond to their social world? What about you — what is your relationship with social media and how has it impacted you?

Day 4

Today I want you to pay attention and make note of your own personal social environment. You will practice observational research as you pay close attention to the interactions of others in your various settings. What did you notice about how others interact? Make note of any profound observations. What about your perceptions of others?

Day 5:

Today, pay attention to how others make you feel? Were there situations today where someone made you angry, happy, sad or mad? Also try to notice how others perceive you. Do you have any situations where you feel you are treated differently than others? Do you think that people’s perception of you is accurate or inaccurate?

Project, Program, and Portfolio Management

Imagine that you are writing an internal document for your company on the differences between project, program, and portfolio management.

In your initial post, share some topics that you would discuss in the internal document. Conduct research and use sources to support your description. Be sure to acknowledge any sources you use.

In your responses to your peers, comment on someone else’s approach to creating the document. Do you agree with the topics they discussed for the internal document? Why or why not? If their topics are different from yours, why do you think you used different information in creating the document?

This is the post to respond too:

If I had to write an internal document on project, program, and portfolio I would cover topics such as the different types of management styles that each of the managers have, a project manager is the one that delivers a project to a group and is efficient and reliable, a program manager is more about the strategic approach when it comes to projects, and the portfolio manager is more about keeping the organization on track of what they are doing. I would also talk about how they work all together even though they are so different, they help organizations understand the roles that they each play to bring the completion of the strategic goal that they want to accomplish.

Advice from Dear Sugar

You’ve read the first third or so of Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed (a.k.a., “Dear Sugar”), and you should already be forming an opinion of how reliable or trustworthy she is as an advice columnist. For your initial post this week, select one of the letters listed below to analyze and/or discuss:

  • Like an Iron Bell, pp. 13-18
  • How You Get Unstuck, pp. 19-30
  • That Ecstatic Parade, pp. 31-36
  • A Motorcycle with No One on It, pp. 37-38
  • The Reckoning, pp. 39-47
  • There’s a Bundle on Your Head, pp. 48-52
  • Write Like a Motherfucker, pp. 53-60
  • A New, More Fractured Light, pp. 61-63
  • Dudes in the Woods, pp. 64-72
  • Icky Thoughts Turn Me On, pp. 73-77
  • Reach, pp. 78-86
  • The Baby Bird, pp. 89-91
  • Go! Go! Go!, pp. 92-93
  • The Black Arc of It, pp. 94-99
  • Hell Is Other People’s Boyfriends, pp. 100-103
  • Thwack, Thwack, Thwack, pp. 104-109
  • The Woman Hanging on the End of the Line, pp. 110-114
  • No Mystery about Sperm, pp. 115-123

Explain whether or not you think that the advice Strayed gave to the letter-writer was good advice. What did she say that was correct? Incorrect? What about her message to the writer was appropriate or inappropriate? Did she cover all of the concerns or issues that the writer had? What else could she have said? What advice would you have given that would differ from what Strayed gave?

Literature Review of The Effects of Social Media on Promoting the Marketing of Local Small Businesses

Eassy Characters in The Canterbury Tale

You have learned a little bit about many of the characters in The Canterbury Tales, and you have learned a lot about the Wife of Bath through her own tale.

Now you will return to “The Prologue” and make a prediction about the type of story another character might tell.

Choose one of the following characters:

Knight

Squire

Miller

Parson

Pardoner

You have already gotten started on this assignment without realizing it! Return to the notes you took as you read “The Prologue.”

Use them as you describe in your own words the character you have chosen to write about.

Then, explain what kind of story you think that character will tell, using textual evidence from “The Prologue” to support your prediction.

  1. (The Role of the Outside Auditor- Chapter 9) The outside reading entitled, “ Sarbanes-Oxley: Impetus for Enterprise Risk Management by Edward Giniat, and Joseph Saporito, suggest that making SOX compliance a part of a larger enterprise risk management program can help not-for-profits to streamline and coordinate their approach to all risk-be it financial, operational, or strategic. Briefly comment on how this action, if adopted, may impact the auditors internal control letter (management letter) given to the healthcare organizations top management.
  2. (The Role of the Outside Auditor – Chapter 9) Briefly discuss the role of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board as it applies to not-for-profit organizations and their independent auditors.

I have to Reply to at least two of my classmates (appx. 100 words).

My first classmate Discussion.

1. The impact by applying SOX compliance a part of a larger enterprise risk management program to a non for profit organization would mean putting more effort into protecting the shareholders and the general public from any accounting errors. But with more effort, that means more money being reallocated into those efforts whether it is for administration or background support to apply SOX appropriately. A non for profit organization needs to strategically and resourcefully apply the grants and any type of finances they have to sustain all financials are being put into the most effective places throughout the organization. With specific areas of the organization being covered by various inflow of financials, an accurate system has already been establish to ensure the non for profit standards are at bay for taxation purposes.

2. The Role of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) is a non for profit organization created by congress in order to oversee audits of public companies for protection purposes of the investors and/or other public entities. Due to non for profit organizations displaying their financial standings publicly, informative accounting audits then allows the organizations and stakeholders understand how compliant the organization is to secure federal laws.

My second classmate Discussion.

Health care is a large industry. It processes many kinds of financial transactions on a daily basis, and proper control of those transactions is essential. In this case, an internal auditor will play a significant role because an integral part of proper accounting procedures rests in issues of control and begins with internal accountability structures. However, sometimes, the internal auditor may be negligent or fail to track errors or fraud. As the book on page 84 mentioned, the internal auditors focus more into errors than individuals. For this reason, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) was intended to safeguard the economy since the healthcare industry is such a large and integral part of it. And SOX will consistently have an effect on all healthcare organizations because SOX compliance has considerable flexibility in how they structure their compliance activities. It increases the transparency of organizations’ financial reporting. It also formalizes a system of internal checks and balances. “By improving the integrity of financial reporting, voluntary compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act can help a not-for-profit healthcare organization preserve its reputation within its community” (BlackStratus, 2018). Making SOX compliance a part of a larger enterprise risk management program can help not-for-profits to streamline and coordinate their approach to “all risk-be it financial, operational, or strategic” (BlackStratus, 2018).

  1. (The Role of the Outside Auditor – Chapter 9) Briefly discuss the role of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board as it applies to not-for-profit organizations and their independent auditors.

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), is a private sector, nonprofit corporation created by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Its responsible for the requirement that independent auditors complete a required disclosure called the COSO Opinon, which is an assessment of a company’s internal controls. Even though health care organizations do not issue stocks, they still issue bonds that are registered with the SEC, meaning that the SOX is relevant to many not-for-profit health care providers. It also helps to establish auditing and quality controls. It conducts inspections, investigations, and disciplinary proceedings of registered accounting firms. It also enforces compliance with the SOA. The PCAOB adopted a new auditing standard to enhance the auditor’s report, including communicating critical audit matters and disclosure of auditor’s tenure ( Gill, 2003).

Employment Discrimination, management homework help

A major University has advertised for a non-research
lecturer position in its Economics Department. When they evaluate the
applicants, one resume clearly stands out as excellently qualified. When the
applicant came in for an interview, she is asked to complete a questionnaire
with a number of open ended questions prior to the actual interview. The
questionnaire was extremely well answered and evidenced perfect grammar,
perfect penmanship and perfect spelling. The answers were lucid and well
thought out. Unfortunately, during the interview most in the department had
trouble understanding the candidate due to her extremely heavy Nigerian accent.
If the university hires someone else, has the university violated any
discrimination laws?

Discussion posts, health and medical homework help

Respond to the following discussion questions using 100 to 150 words only each.

1-Raquel Perez,

Why you selected this topic?

I selected this topic not only because it caught my curiosity, but also because as a student nurse I always try to find new medical research information to assist in increasing my knowledge base. The article is about how a rare condition that causes paralysis, called Acute Flaccid Myelitis, is mostly targeting children.

Why is “Public Health” keeping track of such things?

I believe public health is keeping track of such articles about new increasing disease process, because by being aware they can alert the communities which they serve. When new information becomes available, it allows public health servants to share it with the population or areas in which they serve.

How has epidemiology contributed in this case?

Epidemiology has contributed in this case by actively investigating each case really close and determining why the increase in cases and what exactly is causing it. Among the many areas of investigation, they are puzzled as to why only children are coming down with it.

How might this information be relevant to you personally/professionally?

This information is relevant to me both personally and professionally. On a personal basis, I would like to know what exactly is causing and what are the symptoms, in case any of the children in my family or friends circle, acquire it. Professionally, by knowing the exact signs and symptoms it can help me diagnose a child, who might be very sick without knowing the exact cause.

How does any of this tie into this week’s studies?

This particular article ties in perfectly with this week’s studies. We are learning about the effectiveness of diagnostic and screening tests. The article specifically states, “Scientists at the CDC are testing blood, nose, respiratory, and spinal cord specimens from patients to learn more and try to identify the source.” (Marcus, 2016).

_____________________________________________________________________________________

2- Sofia Muller,

Why I selected this topic area:

I selected this article because it interested me to know how safe it is to drink our tap water and if it is tested as it should be. Reading this article, I learned that the drinking water of nearly 1 in 4 Americans comes from untested or contaminated systems.

Why is “Public Health” keeping track of such things?

Public health is keeping track of such thing because, everyone deserves clean water and according to the CDC contaminated water can lead to many health related issues such as gastrointestinal illness, neurological and reproductive disorders.

How has epidemiology contributed in this case?

Epidemiology contributes in this study to make sure the water is testes as it should be in order to prevent water born infections and keep people safe.

How might this information be relevant to you personally/professionally?

Personally this information is relevant to me because I do consume tap water sometimes and it is important to keep up to date on how safe is it to actually drink it. Professionally this information is relevant because as a future nurse encouraging fluids to our patients, unless contraindicated, is important and it will also be important to remind them to keep up with any drinking water advisories in order to prevent health issues related to water contamination.

How does any of this tie into this week’s studies?

This article ties into this week’s studies because we are discussing screening test and even though this test is not directly performed to people, the screening talked about in this articles is screening done to our tap water which is performed in ordered to test the water for possible contaminants that could potentially cause sickness in people.

3-Lisette Trueba

The site I used was Public Health Newswire, I thoughit was well put together and have current information. I came across an article related to SIDS, sudden infant death syndrome is a devastating but real syndrome, many families lose their infants to this. The name of the article is “The Nation’s Health: Updated recommendations aimed at keeping infants safe from SIDS” and at as it says in the tittle recommendations were updated in 2016 for a safe infant environment. The American Academy of Pediatrics released a new policy statement which covers preventive measures and new research that may help reduce sleep-related risks to infants (Halberg, 2017). There are about 2,500 child deaths annually, reported by the CDC. This is something which is devastating; I personally know someone who lost her infant at 3 months from SIDS, itgood to see they are working on ways to help reduce these incidences. The epidemiology of SIDS is finding risk factors and how they contribute to this horrible syndrome. This is relevant to me because in the future I would like to have more children and finding ways to prevent this from possibly happening to one of my infants, also being in the nursing field, it is important to be able to provide adequate and factual teachings. This syndrome does not have any diagnostic testing, therefore it is not completely related, but it is definitely related to epidemiology.
