a paragraph response to their debate

First, before reading the debate, note if you are for or against the statement (before reading the debate, do you agree more with the pro or con position?). Then note if your position changed or remained the same after you read the debate (after reading the debate, do you agree more with the pro or con position?) In your paragraph, state your position (pro or con) before and after reading the debate. Give any insights on the debate or debate topic.

  • Topic: Rules against hate speech are too broad, and instead we should address the problem of hate speech by exposing it and discussing it in the classroom.PROThe term hate speech is used to describe any kind of expression that insults a person’s form of identity such as race, ethnicity, religion, gender or sexual orientation. Every individual in the United States of America has the right of freedom of speech provided by the First Amendment. However, free speech could end up being interpreted as hate speech by a group that may feel attacked in some way, promoting disputes among groups. Dealing with hate speech is challenging, because a person could be expressing their views on a matter concerning a certain group in a genuine manner, but their expression could end up being insulting or inciting to another group (George, 2015). Therefore it is difficult to rule out whether an individual is expressing hate or just being genuine about their feelings. Rules against hate speech are broad and the problem should be addressed by exposing and discussing about it.In particular, hate speech brings about a broad view of the rights to be protected by the constitution; the rights of equal treatment and freedom of expression (George, 2015). America has a large presentation of individuals with different identities who need to be protected against expressions that may make them feel insignificant. Most times people have to go silent when they are being attacked based on their identity because everyone has the freedom to express their thoughts. The silence is the price one has to pay for freedom, and hate speech gets justified. There is a gray area in the rules directed against hate speech in the US as the government is not allowed to pick a side that they can favor or suppress in case of a debate. Due to that, making laws regarding hate speech in situations affecting a specific group of individuals would result to unconstitutional discrimination. For the most part, rules that should govern against hate speech are broad and very unclear. Therefore the best way to address the issue should be by exposing it as it is. Also the issue should be discussed in classrooms because everyone gets affected either directly or indirectly at some point. Also, schools have a wide representation of the identity groups present in a community. Acts of hate speech should be denounced in clear terms because silence and lack of response creates room for confusion, fear and distrust to develop (Willoughby, 2012). School administrators should make it clear that hate has no place in the school. In case a hate crime happens in or outside the school setting, exposing the act and discussing about it will promote healing to the group of individuals affected (Willoughby, 2012). Discussing about it will also help in formation of support for identity groups that may be targeted by hate speech. Talking about it will also enable everyone to give their perspective on the issue and form a deeper understanding of what the targeted groups may be going through, promoting cohesion in the community. Therefore talking about hate speech is the best way to address it than keeping quiet about it.

  • CONI would have to disagree with such statement; too many restrictions take away the meaning of freedom of speech.Although there were other laws passed later in relation to the First Amendment that “define” freedom of speech, the First Amendment to the United States Constitution allows people to speak freely without consequences. As a mother, I wouldn’t want my son exposed to such “hate” to early in life, let kids be kids and its up to parents to teach their child how to behave and treat one another.Manners start at home. There is no legal definition under U.S. law that defines “hate speech”. However, hate speech is any form of speech in which speakers connote to disparage or incite hatred against a group or class of a persons. As mentioned, the First Amendment protects speech no matter how offensive its content. Furthermore, to be more clear, it doesn’t protect behaviors that involves focusing threats or harassment, or creates a hostile environment. But simply, bigoted or offensive speech doesn’t raise to that level; figuring weather or not that line has been crossed is based on case-by-case basis.Weather we realize it or not, we all perform some sort of “hate speech” at one time or another. As not every single person in the world shares the same beliefs, even on what defines “hate speech”, thus leaving the grey area. There is a line and when its crossed, yes, there should be some sort of repercussion to the responsible person(s). However, what if someone has a gathering of people agreeing with their speech in a public space and someone was passing by chooses to yell out at the speaker with opposing ideas and that person is the one who creates the hostile environment, endangering others, whose at fault? Not the speaker. The person who reacted negatively to the speech is. Deciding at what age, in a classroom, gets to be exposed to discussing hate speech would be a tough job.I think raising our children to be more humbled, not be so sensitive and easily offended by others beliefs, but to offer help others and to be kind to one another, taking away from the classroom curriculum should be about learning, not hate speech. It should be about educating on history, mathematics, things that will affect them to be a responsible adult later in life. The focus in the classroom has shifted in what I consider a negative way.For example, they took away wood-shop class.Of course, not every student will grow to find a career in that field but meeting many younger people these days, they don’t understand how to change a door handle, or how to use a screw driver. To take even more time away from actually educating in the classroom, to spend time and funds on “hate speech” is quite repulsive.References:”Hate Speech and Hate Crime”, American Library Association, December 12, 2017.http://www.ala.org/advocacy/intfreedom/hate (Accessed March 19, 2019)

Labor Compliance…

Labor Compliance

As a final project for this class, students must conduct an interview with a human resources or labor relations professional and write a paper based on the findings. Interviewees may include, for example, HR managers or those with a specialty in HR, corporate attorneys, arbitrators, union leaders, or union stewards. The focus of the paper must be on the application of, or compliance with, labor laws, or on labor (union) relations more generally. Accordingly, students should focus their interviews on the interviewee’s experience in one or more of these areas. Specifically, research should address current and past issues the interviewee has faced, including negotiations, expectations, and challenges that have characterized the interviewee’s experience of the labor‐management relationship. Any other topic needs the approval of the instructor.

Your paper is due at the end of Week 8 and must:

  • Conform to the APA Requirements
  • Be 8 to 10 pages in length (excluding title page and references)
  • Incorporate at least four academic/scholarly sources.

Following is a list of sample interview questions. Please note that students do not need to ask every question on the list. Also, students will need to develop some questions that are not on the list.

Sample Interview Questions

Background:

  • How did you get started in employee or labor relations?
  • How long have you been in this field?
  • Have you had specific training or certifications? What and where? What other relevant experience and/or education do you have?
  • What recommendations do you have for someone wanting to pursue a career in this field?

Current information:

  • Provide a brief profile of your company, including the ways HR fits into the organizational structure (and if union, discuss union affiliation/details)
  • Explain some of the things you do on a daily or weekly basis.
  • What are some of your most challenging responsibilities and what issues must you deal with?
  • Discuss a memorable employee or labor relations issue/conflict. Why was it memorable? Was it resolved? If so, how (what was the process and sequence of events)?
  • What are some “lessons learned” over the course of your experience in this field?
  • What competencies and skills do you use most in this profession?

The future:

  • Where do you see employee or labor relations going in the future? What trends can you identify, good or bad?
  • What would you change or wish to see develop in terms of future employee or labor relations?

Other potential questions for HR practitioners in union environments:

  • How have unions made your job easier?
  • How have unions made your job more difficult?

For HR practitioners in non‐union environments:

  • What types of practices do you bring to bear to keep your organization non‐union?

Discussion: Disaster Planning

Scenario: You are the PHN working at your local public health department in the nursing division. It is the middle of summer, and you have been receiving telephone calls asking about “the flu season” since the vaccine wasn’t accurate in predicting the strains of influenza that affected your community last year, and many people contracted the virus. Business and community leaders are concerned because they don’t want a repeat performance of last year. You have been asked to develop some solutions to community concerns. Select two of the following scenarios and respond to the questions that are posed in each. As you consider the scenarios you have selected, think about the following considerations as you develop your responses.

  • Which agencies are available to lead and assist in the disaster response?
  • What resources are available in your community?
  • How might resources be used most efficiently?
  • Are there any gaps that may pose a problem?
  • Identify potential strengths and weaknesses in the community

Scenario 1: Imagine that initial pandemic flu cases have been identified in your jurisdiction. Some people are home sick, and others are staying home fearful that they may become infected with the flu. What advice would you give to local business owners to prepare for this event? Name two actions that business owners can take to keep their businesses open.

Scenario 1, Part B. As incidents of influenza continue to rise, local business owners are worried about loss of revenue if several large planned conventions are forced to cancel due to the flu. What advice can you give these business owners? Should all events be cancelled?

Scenario 2: Disease rates are rising, and estimates are that as many as 20% of the population are ill with confirmed influenza. Several businesses have closed and services have been suspended. What advice would you give to local law enforcement officials so they can continue to serve the needs of the people? Describe two actions that law enforcement workers can take to remain on the job. How will the gaps in personnel created by those who are ill be covered by those who are still well? What advice will you give?

Scenario 3: Disease rates are remaining at 20% of the population, and many schools have closed due to teacher absence. Since parents still have to work if they are not sick with the flu, what advice can you give day care providers? What two ideas can you share with them so they can stay open and able to care for the children of working parents? Should all school sporting events be cancelled? What information should parents be given? Should announcements be given daily?

Scenario 4: The numbers of influenza victims has reached 25% of the population. Many of the large grocery stores in your community are short-staffed due to employee sick calls. Shelves are bare since many of the workers are home with the flu, and even if the storeowner could stock the shelves, cashiers are home sick, too. In-store pharmacists are struggling to keep their pharmacies open to serve the public. Consumables like bread and milk are in short supply since many delivery drivers are home sick. What two actions can you recommend to these storeowners so that your community doesn’t suffer?

Scenario 5: With 25% of the total population sick with influenza, your hospital is short of staff at a time of very high census. While many of the administrative positions are unaffected by illness, at least 40% of the nurses have called in sick or are at home caring for very sick children. Name two recommendations that you can give your hospital administration to keep their services available for the community.

Scenario 6: The community is turning to the Health Department for assistance because reported incidents of influenza have risen from 5% of the population to 10% of the population in a matter of days. What is your first response to this situation? What steps will you take? Where will you start?

By Day 3

Post your response to this Discussion.

Support your response with references from the professional nursing literature.

Notes Initial Post: This should be a 3-paragraph (at least 350 words) response. Be sure to use evidence from the readings and include in-text citations. Utilize essay-level writing practice and skills, including the use of transitional material and organizational frames. Avoid quotes; paraphrase to incorporate evidence into your own writing. A reference list is required. Use the most current evidence (usually ≤ 5 years old).

Topic 6 DQ 3

Please respond with a paragraph to the following question, add citations and references:

For my capstone I choose CLABSI prevention in ICU, providing best and safe care is my top priority. About 41,000 blood stream infections is caused each year by central line contamination (Schech, Hefner, Robbins, Harrison & Garmen, 2015). This type of infection is preventable and should never occur to patients. There are many ways to help prevent CLABSI’s, this includes following sterile central line insertions and applying strict guidelines for line maintenance afterwards. When staff follow and apply EBP the goal of eliminating CLABSI can be met.

One mechanism that I plan to develop is a specific central line check list for staff to follow. The checklist will entail what actions to take before, during and after an insertion of a central line. I will also develop educational tools for nurses to use such as the central line bundle kit. Adherence to best practices is important for CLABSI prevention. Its critical that nurses learn to assess, reassess and evaluate the use of and the need for central lines. After starting this capstone project, I realize that change takes time and I also recognize that changing practices can create resistance. However, the goal is to have zero infections to improve patient outcomes.

Discussion: Critiquing a Change Effort

As a nurse leader, you need to have the skills and knowledge to collaborate and communicate with those who plan for and manage change. This capacity is valuable in any health care setting and for many different types of change. Furthermore, it is essential to be able to evaluate a change effort and determine if it is promoting improved outcomes and making a positive difference within the department or unit, or for the organization as a whole.

To prepare:

  • Review Chapters 7 and 8 in the course text. Focus on the strategies for planning and implementing change in an organization, as well as the roles of nurses, managers, and other health care professionals throughout this process.
  • Reflect on a specific change that has recently occurred in your organization or one in which you have worked previously. What was the catalyst or purpose of the change?
  • How did the change affect your job and responsibilities?
  • Consider the results of the change and whether or not the intended outcomes have been achieved.
  • Was the change managed skillfully? Why or why not? How might the process have been improved?

By Day 3

Post a summary of a specific change within an organization and describe the impact of this change on your role and responsibilities. Explain the rationale for the change, and whether or not the intended outcomes have been met. Assess the management of the change, and propose suggestions for how the process could have been improved.

Social Psychology

Part A

Objective: Recognize characteristics of informational social influence.

After checking into a hotel, Emma suddenly hears pounding on her door. A man in a uniform is standing there telling her there’s smoke on a lower floor and the electricity is possibly going to shut off. She should prop her door open and evacuate as quickly as possible. Later, Emma returns to find that her laptop and jewelry have been stolen. She has fallen victim to informational social influence.

Based on your understanding of informational social influence, outline and explain the four (4) factors and conditions that encouraged Emma to conform.

Part B

Objective: Describe the need to be accepted in the context of normative social influence.

  • Based on Schachter’s “Johnny Rocco” study, describe three (3) stages involved in persuading “rebels” to conform to group norms.
  • Describe an instance in your life when you were persuaded to adopt or reject group norms.

Assignment 2: Mental Status Plan, psychology homework help

You are a newly recruited intern counselor at a correctional facility where Michael was committed for 18 months for the conviction of burglary. Upon arrest, Michael tested positive for marijuana and heroin.  You are assigned Michael’s case. You review his case history and discuss it with your supervisor in detail. You then decide to draw up a list of 15–20 questions to ask Michael to assess the areas of need that his treatment plan should address. Before you ask him the questions you decide to get input from your supervisor. Devise an assessment and interview plan.  Include what assessment screen tool, as discussed in the module lecture, you have chosen to use during the assessment. Be sure to explore the screening tools link which has a listing of over 15 different screening tools in the module lecture.  Your questions must cover his psychosocial history and include a rationale for each question included.

Case information on Michael:

  • 50 years old
  • 5 prior convictions of: disorderly conduct, attempted burglary, drug possession, driving under the influence and receiving stolen property.
  • Michael has never been treated for addiction

Be sure to include the following items in your report:

    1. A review of the case.
    2. Details of your assessment plan: What areas of need your treatment plan should address, specific instruments selected, along with reasons for selecting them.
    3. In your interview plan include a summary of the components of the MSE and at least 15 additional questions to assess the client’s psychosocial history.
    4. A rationale for selecting each question in the interview.
    5. Justify your ideas by using appropriate examples and references from text, appropriate professional field-related Web sites.
    6. Answer the questions in a logical, organized manner.

Unit 12 – Assessing and Evaluating Strategies

You are a social media marketing specialist for a small software development firm. You have been tasked with creating a Facebook page and campaign to promote your firms new software as a service (SaaS) product. The problem is you don’t currently have any customers for this product. Create 3-5 strategies to help get potential customers to like your product page. Design and run experiments to test and determine which is the best strategy for getting customers to see your product.

    Instructions

    1. Research and select any SaaS product and create a unique Facebook page to promote it.
    2. Implement the 3-5 strategies that you have come up with for getting potential customers to engage with your new product page.
    3. Using the PDCA Cycle, conduct experiments to see which strategy is most successful.
    4. Use the A3 template or a Strategic Change Canvas to document your strategies, experiments, and results.

Under contract law, a reward offer is binding, so that the offeror of a reward must pay a person who completed performance for the offered reward.

A person has a responsibility to return lost personal property to its rightful owner.

The question posed by this assignment is: What happens if those two rules collide? What if Amanda finds Brenda’s object and THEN Brenda offers a reward for the return of the object?

Can Amanda insist on the reward as a pre-condition for the return? Can Brenda retract that reward because Amanda had a pre-existing duty to return the property before the reward was offered? Or, do they both just sue each other to enforce their respective duties? Which of these alternatives (or something else) do you think will be enforced by a court?

Assume that both Amanda and Brenda live in the city of Beavercreek, Oregon and that all events involved in this assignment occurred in that city.

An IRAC-style essay is appropriate for this assignment.

Please note that many of the best cases for this assignment are really old cases. That is okay. There is nothing wrong with using old cases if they’re the best ones and have not been overruled more recently.
