Government spending is used for everything from Medicare and Medicaid to buying books for underprivileged schools. Government spending is used on short-term and long-term projects. After reading “Honey I Shrank the Deficit (But Grew the National Debt)” by David Davenport, what types of projects (short-term or long-term) should government spending be used on and why? Provide examples. Why is it important to lower the national debt? Or, is the national debt just something we pass on to the next generation? What problems does the federal debt establish, even when there is government surplus? Explain the relationship between the federal debt and annual surplus and annual deficits.

Schizophrenia and Smoking
After reading Chapter 11 and 12 in your course text and the article “Considering the Definition of Addiction” which covers the biological basis of emotion, addiction (substance abuse disorder), and disordered behavior, analyze the high rate of smoking in those diagnosed with schizophrenia compared to the general population. Why are smoking cessation interventions less successful in these individuals? Review the accepted mechanisms of tobacco abuse and dependence and the etiologic theories of schizophrenia. What are the biological and/or psychological mechanisms between schizophrenia and smoking? Include information on brain structures, pathways, neurotransmitters/receptors, and psychological factors when discussing the topic areas above. Additional emphasis should be placed on relating the underlying pathology of schizophrenia to tobacco dependence/abuse and the biological or psychological mechanism of the observed association of smoking behavior to the diagnosis of schizophrenia.
In keeping with the focus of this class, the emphasis should be placed on the role of neurotransmitter and receptor systems, neuroanatomical structures, and neurological functional pathways. Create an MIS Architecture Plan

• You will use Microsoft Word to develop a MIS architecture plan that analyzes the current capabilities, lists available resources, aligns capabilities with business objectives in order to identify gaps and recommends IT solutions.
• Your plan must include a Table of Contents and Headers.
• Analyze and explain the current MIS architecture: Discuss bandwidth, speed of service, reliability, scalability, mobility and security.
• Create a list that identifies and outlines existing resources being utilized in the company.
• Discuss the operational objectives of the company using assumptions gained from the scenario.
• Develop a recommendation plan for an improved MIS architecture. Your plan should examine whether or not the current architecture meets the business needs and if not, identify those gaps. Be sure to consider the businesses’ goals and objectives.
• Using software of your choosing (Ex. Power Point or Visio), construct a revamped architecture diagram that meets the needs of the company. Attach your architecture diagram as an appendix.

Judge James Shoreman is up for reelection in 2 months. He has a full docket on Monday morning. Two of the individuals on this docket are Thomas J. Catalano and Abdul Hussein Jabari.

Mr. Catalano has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. His prior record consists of breaking and entering, assault on a police officer, and possession of narcotics. Mr. Catalano has a “high-priced” lawyer with the discretionary funds for an additional investigation. Mr. Catalano has a wife and two children. He has been employed for 5 years for the local banking institution. Mr. Catalano has received a 10-year probation sentence with the stipulation that if he violates this probation, he will serve the remainder of the sentence in the state prison.

Mr. Jabari has been charged with the distribution of a controlled substance (prescription drugs). His prior record consists of possession of narcotics and falsification of identity. Mr. Jabari has a court-appointed lawyer who is on the pro bono list maintained by the judge. His funds are limited but the Muslim community has rallied to his financial aid, and there have been demonstrations at the courthouse. Mr. Jabari has a wife and three children. He has been employed for 8 years as the chief chef at a local restaurant. Mr. Jabari has received 7 years in the state prison, without the possibility of good time.

Looking at the family situations, the employment situations, and community support, give a reason why you think the judge would render such decisions.

How could the judge support his decisions?
