Destination City Proposal -Part I

As an executive for a hospitality development group you have been asked to evaluate a destination city for a client that is looking to expand their operations. The client has a diversified portfolio of hotels, resorts, restaurants, bars, and attractions.

You will create a preliminary proposal for a hotel development in a city of your choosing, and present the proposal to your client. Select a destination city such as Las Vegas, Orlando, Honolulu, etc.

Research your destination city to determine the existing hospitality business segments, paying close attention to the lodging segment as well as any competitors within this space.

For example, a convention hotel will differ from a leisure/tourist hotel in terms of both physical space and the size and scope of different departments.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word proposal and include the following.

  • Provide information about segments of the hospitality industry that already exist within the selected city.
  • Identify the type of hotel would you suggest developing, including some of the key departments and functions that would be appropriate for the local market.
  • Explain hospitality management, and identify some of the key characteristics of leadership that the client should be looking for when staffing management positions.

Decision Making

For this assignment, explore the journal literature, and write a paper in which you examine how others have achieved cross-campus coalitions or partnerships between academic faculty and/or administration and student development professionals. Incorporate at least three examples of peer-reviewed literature, and incorporate at least one practical applied example into your paper along with the research-based articles.

Discover how others have engaged in successful partnerships between academic units and student affairs units in at least two of the following areas:

  • The formation of partnerships with faculty in support of what are now called “learning – living environments.”
  • The establishment of conversations with teaching faculty that resulted in model community “service learning” projects consistent with the mission of the college or university.
  • Student development alliances and programmatic development with teaching faculty that address problems related to poor class attendance, personal or behavioral problems which impair academic performance, and the tendency to view “the classroom as the classroom” and everything outside of class as “everything else.”
  • Create a responsive program development strategy based on what others have done.
  • What did people learn from these success stories? What guiding principles have researchers come to believe are critical if the alleged “chasm” between academics and student life is to be bridged?

Length: 5 pages, not including title and reference pages

References: Include a minimum of five scholarly resources not older than 6 years old.

reaction post

Hi Juniper, please positively react to the following post…. 250 words-double space~~~its just like the case you did for me

Today in my office, I will be meeting with a new client. Juan is a 51-year-old Hispanic man who has recently had a medical scare, 8 months ago Juan was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The cancer was detected early enough before it began to progress, Juan’s doctor suggested he have his prostate removed. Juan, with the support from his new wife Lydia, elected to have the surgery. Three months after his prostatectomy, Juan began experiencing post-surgery symptoms such as urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Before being diagnosed with prostate cancer, Juan and Lydia were recently married, they had been married only 2 months and were enjoying life as newlyweds. Juan expresses that his embarrassment of his incontinence has greatly impacted his and Lydia’s sex life and maybe a contributing factor to his erectile dysfunction. Juan fears that if he cannot satisfy Lydia sexually, she will want a divorce.

Impact on Sexual Functioning

The client, Juan has experienced an event that is negatively impacting his sexual functioning, Juan had had prostate cancer which has resulted in him seeking help to save his marriage with his wife Lydia. Juan has been having issues with erectile dysfunction after his prostatectomy, after a prostatectomy it is not uncommon for the individual to experience a decrease in ejaculate and there is also the possibility of the surgery resulting in nerve damage to the penis (Hyde & DeLamater, 2016). Additionally, research has indicated that it can take approximately a year post surgery for incontinence to resolve and erectile and sexual issues can continue for 2 years post-surgery (Wittmann, Foley, & Balon, 2011). This could be very impactful on Juan’s situation, Juan is struggling with erectile dysfunction which has caused him anxiety within his marriage, Juan has put a great deal of stress on himself to sexually perform for his new wife. Satisfaction with sexual functioning can be greatly related to whether a man has issues with erectile disfunction (Hyde & DeLamater, 2016).

Discussing Sexual Developmental Issues with the Client

During my session with Juan, I would want to discuss with him that after experiencing prostate cancer and undergoing surgery that it is common for men to experience issues with erectile dysfunction. I would want to reassure Juan that erectile dysfunction can be temporary and possible options for him, potentially considering taking medication. Additionally, I would want to discuss with him how his sexual functioning is impacting his self-esteem, especially how it is influencing his thoughts that his wife Lydia would want to leave him if he cannot perform sexually.

Topic 2 response to Anna Valdez

There are 3 levels of prevention. The common goal is improve health by promoting positive health promotion behavior changes (Falkner, 2018). Primary prevention focus on people who are well, with no illness or injury. This type of prevention aims to prevent disease or injury before it ever occurs. Some examples of primary prevention include immunization and education about healthy and safe habits. Secondary prevention focus on people who are at risk of a health problem. This type of prevention try to detect a disease in its earliest stages, before symptoms appear, and intervene if needed to slow or stop its progression. Some examples of secondary prevention include screening, early interventions and treatments. Tertiary prevention focus on individual with health problems. This type of prevention aims to soften the impact of an ongoing illness or injury that has lasting effects. The principal goal is to reduce complications or disability. Some examples include rehabilitation, support groups, and patient education to prevent further complications.

Health Education can be applied at all three levels of disease prevention and can be of great help. The educational needs varies according to the level of prevention in which the individual is found and the patient readiness to adopt changes. The Transtheoretical model of nursing helps the nurse to identify patient readiness to accept changes. The TTM posits that individuals move through different stages of change: precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance. For each stage of change, different intervention strategies are applied.
