WHAT: Design and develop a 5-minute PPT Presentation that persuades your classmates to accept or

On-ground sections of this course will conduct the PPT presentation in class for face-to-face
audience members. Online sections of this course will add audio and appropriate slide-transition
timing to the PPT and post it for viewing by Bb audience members.

Risk management is also part of compliance for any organization.

Compliance programs are managed by risk managers or compliance
officers. For this assessment, you should seek out and interview a risk
manager or compliance officer for a local health care organization. You
may choose a compliance officer from a hospital, physician’s practice,
health plan, skilled nursing facility, group home, or other similar
health care organization. You will need to ensure that the organization
that you choose has either a risk management or compliance department.
There are likely some organizations that do not have this function.
Smaller organizations may lack this critical piece in their
organizational structure.

Interview a compliance officer. Go to the Health Care Compliance
Association (HCCA) Web site to secure a job description that most
closely resembles the type of compliance officer you will interview.

During the interview, ask this compliance officer open-ended questions such as:

• What is the role of a compliance officer?
• What are the main areas of concern for you?
• What type of specific training have you had for this role?
• Do you participate in any type of ongoing training or professional organization?
• Do you have a strategic plan for compliance? What are the keys to this plan?
• What types of regulations are you most concerned about following?
• Have you had to report any issues of fraud or abuse in the past? If yes, to whom? What happened?
• What do you see as the future for compliance and compliance officers in health care?
• What are your largest liability concerns for this organization?

During
this interview, identify at least one risk management issue that you
will use as the basis for your final Unit 9 assessment that deals with
organizational plan risk management. You may wish to ask the person you
interview for a suggestion for this future assignment.

In a 2–3-page, APA-formatted paper, describe your interview findings.
Compare and contrast the compliance officer’s responses to the job
description you found on the HCCA Web site. Evaluate whether you feel
this current compliance officer is meeting the needs of the
organization. What are possible areas of concern or areas for
improvement? Make a recommendation of what you see as the next step for a
compliance plan in this organization. Finally, did you identify any
issues that might leave the organization or facility open to litigation
or lawsuits? What would an appropriate plan or response be to any type
of identified deficiency?

Course Project: Development and Analysis

Objectives

Select, develop, and analyze an in-depth case analysis. The purpose of this project is to utilize course concepts to strategically analyze an organization of your choosing.

Case studies are used extensively in teaching business. Typically, students perform an analysis on a case study prepared by an author or the professor—in this instance, the student is the author of the cases. The case study research strategy provides the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of an organization or event—data can be collected from multiple sources (for example, company websites, interviews, or published articles).

Choose an organization during the Week 2 Discussions. Be sure it is not already chosen by another student by seeing what was posted in that discussion. The organizations may be large, medium, or small businesses as well as non-profits. Governmental organizations do not qualify.

Guidelines

Case Analysis: The Course Project will build on the skills developed by the Case Analysis assignments done in Weeks 3 and 6.

Research Skills: Each case uses four to six sources, and sources are cited in the text and at the end of the case study in APA format.

Writing Skills: Ideas are communicated clearly in business English and using the appropriate business terminology. Work should be prepared following the development of a rough draft, revision, editing, and proofing to produce a final polished report.

A successful project will meet all of these requirements to earn a maximum of 200 points. At the conclusion of this project, it will be beneficial to compare what factors are selected by your peers. Are there patterns here?

Goals of the Research Proposal

The purpose of this assignment, like any research proposal, is to ask permission to

begin a project. For this assignment, you are asked to write a proposal to research a

problem in your community. This problem will continue to guide you through the rest of

the semester, as we conduct secondary, exploratory research and ultimately compose

writing aimed at social change at the end of the term

Many academic disciplines and programs ask students to write a research proposal

before they launch a research project – a study or paper. Research proposals are also

very common in professional or corporate environments where supervisors may ask an

employee to write up a project proposal before that project is launched.

What you’ll need to do

This assignment requires you to define and defend your research questions and show

that you can find credible web and academic sources in the research. The proposal has

three required elements: a research question, a preview of the literature, and your plans

for future research.

Research Question : Pose your research question by explaining the problem

to be investigated. You must show importance and significance of the

problem and discuss how it affects a community of which you are part. The

question should be one you find perplexing. In other words, you are open to

explore the question from many different perspectives and don’t already have

summary or evaluation of the sources – we will be doing that in future

assignments. This assignment requires, instead, a preview. Let readers know

what made this source look promising, where it came from, and what value

you expect for each source to have for your research.

Plans for future research : Describe the secondary research you plan to

conduct. You must let readers know the purpose and scope of the research

you will be conducting.

Your rhetorical context

A research proposal is a document where you propose your plan to your instructor by

demonstrating that you have a good idea for a project, that you have the knowledge

necessary to do it, and that you have a plan for how it will get done.

That context means that your instructor is your primary audience here, and your

purpose is to persuade me that you have a research question that would be appropriate

for ENC1102 and that you can establish ethos for yourself as a prepared and focused

student. Another purpose of this project is to help you focus your goals. The proposal
