Perform a search in the library and find a juried (peer-reviewed) article that critiques one of the family theories in terms of family in later life. This should be a family theory that has not been previously discussed in this course. Evaluate the usefulness and applicability of the theory you have identified for families in later life. Post the URL or persistent link for your article along with your analysis for discussion.

Discussion regarding depression and pharmacological treatment

Discussion:

Angela is a 54-year-old married woman with three adult children. She has been the office
manager of a small law firm for 20 years and has enjoyed her work until this past year. She has
rheumatoid arthritis with minimal impairment that has been managed well with NSAIDs. She has
been taking conjugated estrogens for 8 years and decided to stop taking them because of her
concern of their risks without sufficient medical benefit. She has tolerated the discontinuation
without difficulty.

Assessment:

At her annual medical checkup appointment, she told her primary care provider that she seemed
to be tired all the time, and she was gaining weight because she had no interest in her usual
exercise activities and had been overeating, not from appetite but out of boredom. She denied
that she and her husband have had marital difficulties beyond the ordinary and she was pleased
with the achievements of her children. She noticed that she has difficulty falling asleep at night
and awakens around 4 a.m. most mornings without her alarm and cannot go back to sleep even
though she still feels tired. She finds little joy in her life but cannot pinpoint any particular
concern. Although she denies suicidal feelings, she does not feel that there is meaning to her life:
“My husband and kids would go on fine if I died and probably wouldn’t miss me that much.”
The primary care provider asks Angela to fill out a Beck’s Depression Scale, which
indicated she has moderate depression.

1. What medication would you first prescribe to this patient?
2. She comes back in 2 weeks and states she has not noticed and change in her mood since starting on the medication. What would be your response?
3. What are the possible problems with the medication you prescribed?

4. How long should you continue the treatment regimen?

Budget Simulation Essay

2. Complete and submit Writing Assignment 2 (worth up to 10 points).

This assignment involves a budget simulation, with the goal of this activity being to allow you to make some budget revenue and expenditure choices based on the economic theories you read about in Week 2 and assess the political impacts of those choices based on the Week 3 readings.

Step 1: Go to the Budget Simulation (http://crfb.org/stabilizethedebt/) by clicking on the highlighted link.

Step 2: Read through the brief introduction and then “play” the game. There are several revenue and expenditure options, so be sure to move through all of the pages to make your choices (you may move forward and backward and click on the “i” notations for more information on any topic). Remember, you have the role of a legislator who needs to consider the impact of choices on all of the citizens and the economy as well as (and perhaps more importantly) the constituents who vote for you. Read through the questions below before completing the simulation to develop your strategies.

Step 3: Develop written responses to the following questions. In your responses, offer specific examples in the choices you made to demonstrate how you applied various course concepts. You can write your responses to each question individually (double spaced, and use APA formatting for citations and references); you do not need to write a cohesive essay. Include appropriate connections to the course readings and additional research. Your submission should be 2-3 pages.

  1. Discuss the economic theory or theories (i.e., laissez-faire, mercantilism, Keynesian view, and/or the supply-side view – from the Week 2 readings) that influenced your choices and/or retrospectively, most closely represented your choices. Address how your choices were guided by particular perspective(s) and what the possible outcomes of your choices might be on the economy.
  2. To what extent did you consider the “political” impacts of your choices as you were deciding which revenue sources to add and which expenditure categories to cut? Offer an explanation/examples of the ways in which those “political” impacts influenced your choices. Consider the ideas raised in Swain & Reed Chapter 5.
  3. At which point in the budget process might some of the changes (discuss at least two examples) you made in this simulation be addressed and/or implemented? [Hint: Refer to Swain & Reed Chapter 4.]
  4. Were you ultimately able to stabilize the national debt at the game goal of 60% of the GDP (you will not lose points if you were not able to stabilize the debt; the goal is to make the ‘best’ choices in your opinion)? Offer an explanation as to why you feel you were (or were not) able to achieve the goal.

Initial Project Proposal

You have been selected to be the Project Manager (for a project of your choice). The project that you decide to use should meet the key criteria of a project, such as (a) having a beginning and an end; (b) results in something being delivered to someone; (c) requires a series of activities that must be done to complete the project; and (d) requires resources (e.g., people, materials) to complete the work. The project can be one of a personal or professional nature and must last for at least nine (9) months. NOTE: You are prohibited from using projects that can found on the Internet, including projects found in places like CourseHero. All project submissions are submitted to Safe Assign for review.

Instructions:

In Assignment 1, you will write a three to four (3-4) page paper, in which you define the scope of your chosen project. In your paper you must:

  1. Provide a brief summary of your chosen project.
  2. Describe at least two (2) project goals and two (2) project objectives.
  3. Describe the project structure that you will use to manage the project.
  4. Identify the key customer(s) and at least two (2) stakeholders for your project. Discuss their roles and their impact to the project. Remember, you are delivering the project to your customer(s); however, there are others (stakeholders) who have a vested interest in your project.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Analyze the key concepts, processes, and components of project management.
  • Develop a project plan including the critical elements of project scope and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).

Case Study:

Mr. Smith, a 60 year-old man with coronary heart disease, experienced frequent bouts of angina pectoris. One day while moving a piece of heavy furniture, he experienced excruciating pain over his left chest. He began sweating heavily, became short of breath, and then collapsed. He was transferred to the emergency room at a nearby hospital. Mr. Smith’s EKG was diagnostic of myocardial infarction. A coronary angiography was performed and an occlusion was found in a in the descending branch of the left coronary artery. Intravenous drugs were administered to dissolve the clot that was causing the obstruction. His cardiologist informed him that some of his heart muscle had died as a result of the myocardial infarction.

Discussion Questions:

1. Discuss the risk factors for a myocardial infarction.

2. As per your analysis, what type of cell injury did Mr. Smith sustain and why?

3. Differentiate between reversible and non-reversible cell injury.

4. Discuss the pathophysiological changes that occur during a myocardial infarction.

5. Correlate the subjective and objective findings of a myocardial infarction with the disease

Continuity of Operations (COOP)

identify the crucial components of a viable “FPC 65” COOP plan. Identify a ‘Critical Infrastructure / Key Resource’ organization for your COOP plan, provide a description of the CIKR function provided by the organization, and delineate the ‘essential functions and activities’ required to provide that function or service.

The FEMA document attached as coop-multi-year_plan is most helpful.

To clarify….

Review the FEMA Multi-Year Guide.

Choose an entity such as a business, community center, hospital etc.

Determine what critical infrastructures and key resources the entity provides and uses.

Describe briefly why each CI/KR is important.

Use Annex C of the FEMA plan as a guide to write a brief report of your entity’s COOP.

NOTE – Attached you will find one example of well-done COOPs

most important function when it comes to narrative teaching, Communications Assignment Homework help

[Claim] I believe Our Place in the World is the most important function when it comes to narrative teaching.

[Definition] In this book, Hall states that “a narrative in it’s most basic sense refers to a recounting of a sequence of events that is told from a particular point of view. (Hall, 2005, pg. 73)” According to Hall, there are four narrative teaching functions. They are, The Way the World Works, Our Place in the World, How to Act in the World, and How to Evaluate what Goes on in the World.
In her TED Talk discussion, Chimamanda defines a single story as “show of people as one thing. As only one thing. Over and over again, and that is what they become. She also talks about the danger of a single story. She says, “the consequence of a single story is this, it robs people of dignity. It makes our recognition of equal humanity difficult. It emphasizes how we are different, rather than similar.”

[Example] A narrative that we experienced, which relates to my teaching function (our place in the world) is visual. I am going to relate this to the TED Talk video and Chimamanda’s discussion. The reason why I am choosing visual is because for me, I am a visual learner. I take in knowledge better when I am visually seeing an example happen or watching the person who is talking to me or a group. I look at faces and body language to understand the aspect of the situation that the person is trying to express to me. I found that watching Chimamanda’s video helped put my imagination on a joyride and I was able to put myself in the settings of her stories. I was able to picture her in her room reading an American story, her college roommate being amazed when she played her tribal music of Mariah Carrey, and see the look on the woman’s face when Chimamanda made her comment about all younger men being “American psychos.” I have a much harder time visualizing like that if I am reading from a book or article. Her stories related to my teaching function because, our place in the world means “we are primarily learning information related to our personal and social identities. (Hall, 2005, pg. 77) In her TED Talk video, Chimamanda talks a lot about her personal life and she explains how the stories she read growing up and going to college helped her build her identity and realize who she is as a person.

[Explanation] When I am doing my interview, I am going to try my hardest to not make it a single story. By doing this I am going to be doing at least two things. The first thing I am going to do is make sure I use the suggested interview questions and any other interview questions I find appropriate. The second thing I am going to do is do research on the country my interviewee’s culture is based from. I think it’s important to do some background research to try to not make a single story.

I would like to add that I really liked watching the TED Talk with Chimamanda. I think she’s awesome and the way she told her stories was fabulous. I sometimes have a hard time focusing on people when they tell personal stories and experiences the way she did, but the way she communicated her stories really drew me in. I also loved her response to the person who expressed their concern for African men being unfair to their women after they read Chimamanda’s book, and Chimamanda responded by being concerned about all young American men being an “American psycho.” It was the best response she could have said. That person was experiencing a single story and didn’t take into account that just because one person is one way, doesn’t mean that everyone who is similar by gender/age is the same. I also enjoyed her acceptance of critic from the woman who was upset with the way Chimamanda’s book ended and how her next one needs to be written. Most authors would be offended that someone was trying to tell them how to write their work, but Chimamanda listened to what the woman had to say and was just happy that someone was so involved in her work, that she felt like she needed to add her voice to it.
