Review the diagnostic criteria on pages 99-100; 160-161; 561-562 of the DSM-5.

A counselor’s own perception of psychopathology is extremely important in the diagnostic process.

Using the case study of “Tina”, write a 500-750 word essay in which you examine your thought process about her presenting issues. Include the following in your paper:

1. Discuss the historic and cross-cultural perspectives of psychopathology that could potential impact the diagnosis and treatment of Tina.
2. After reviewing the several diagnoses that could pertain to Tina from the latest version of the DSM, what is your diagnostic impression?
3. Substantiate your diagnostic impression with appropriate criteria from the current version of the DSM.
4. Discuss how historic misconceptions of psychopathology could potentially impact the treatment of this client. As part of this discussion, you may include a diagnosis, any referrals that you would make, and a general course of treatment. At least five scholarly references in addition to the textbook in your paper.

• Are there youth facilities for children who have been in trouble?  If so, describe the different services available.
• Can one apply for benefits on-line?  If so, how?
• Is there a number for Adult and Child Abuse and Neglect?  What are the numbers, when can you contact and what for?
• Does the agency have a “social media” presence? Meaning are their YouTube videos, recorded public service announcements, training for families? If so, highlight what type of media presence and what might be the benefit of having a media presence.

Keep in mind you should be discussing what you researched and go beyond merely answering a question with “yes” or “no” but discuss.  Do not just copy and paste information from the website.

Be sure paper is in APA format with introduction and summarizing conclusion.

Focus on an example of discrimination, bias against a protected class: gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, veterans, race, age in the workplace. Remember that discrimination can appear in any term or condition of employment: hiring, pay, promotions, treatment, termination, etc.

Find research that proves its existence and quantifies its impact.

Write a summary of the discrimination: who is impacted, why it occurs, any proof points about the results of the inequality.

Summarize any laws or regulations that should prevent this type of discrimination.

Offer your opinion about why it still occurs and what could be done by employers or law makers to rectify it.

The most successful topics focus on a very specific expression of bias or discrimination in the workplace.

So, instead of gender discrimination as a whole:

• Lack of female leaders at the C-level or BOD level
• Pay inequities in “pink color” professions.

Or instead of racial bias in total:

• Bias against African American-sounding names in resume screens
• Implicit biases for women of color in science, technology and engineering jobs.

Others have focussed on analysis of recent trends/news events/legislation:

• The recent outcry against sexual harassment
• States passing laws to add additional protected classes: sexual orientation, gender identity, etc.
• “Ban the Box” campaign to reduce discrimination against applicants with criminal records.
