Marginalized Group Career Counseling Paper

For this assignment you will select a marginalized group (veterans, minorities, individuals with disabilities, etc.) and write a paper of 1,750 to 2,100 words that can be used as a resource when working with an individual from the selected group. Use peer-reviewed resources to support your use of a specific career theory as well as interventions with this population. The paper should include the following:

  1. An explanation of who the population is and why it is important for this group to receive career counseling
  2. Statistics on the group (e.g., how large, how many have employment problems, how many utilize career counseling)
  3. Discussion of career counseling theory to be used with the group (e.g., Minnesota theory of work adjustment). Include evidence supporting the use of this theory in the general population as well as within the group. Please note: If none are available, it is important to indicate that as well.
  4. Basic plan for counseling utilizing chosen theory (e.g., interview, use of assessment tools, explanation of theory)
  5. Environmental/personal barriers that may prevent the client from finding work (e.g., disability, substance use history, felony, transportation, limited computer access)
  6. Local resources available to help the client obtain work (e.g., job center, training programs, support groups)
  7. Your conclusion on whether or not this plan is tenable and will work, based on the information listed above.
  8. A minimum of four scholarly references.

Week 6 Task 4

Staffing Metrics Evaluation

Resource: Strategic Staffing, Ch. 13

Staffing metrics can be short-term or long-term, and efficiency- or effectiveness-oriented. Short-term metrics can be used as leading indicators to gauge a company’s ability to place the right people in the right jobs at the right time. Long-term metrics are best for evaluating the effectiveness of a staffing system because they drive the financial impact of staffing for the organization.

Choose an organization with which you are familiar.

Evaluate in 700 to 1,050 words three metrics that are – or should be – used to determine how well the staffing process meets the needs of the organization.

Describe the metrics selected for discussion.

Assess how these help the organization determine effectiveness.

Use the information available in Strategic Staffing, Ch. 13, and supplement it with your own research.

Cite any sources according to APA formatting guidelines.

Gender Perception in Nonverbal Communication

In this assignment, you will explore the role of nonverbal communication in interactions between genders.

Using online library resources and the Internet, research the differences in nonverbal communication between genders.

Once you have an understanding, observe a small group of people, which can be comprised of friends, family, or a group of strangers. The small group should have three to six people and be composed of both male and female members. Observe the group for 15–30 minutes, looking for the types of interactions taking place and how each person uses nonverbal communication to make oneself understood. Pay special attention to nonverbal signals and gestures (body language, facial expressions, eye contact, hand gestures, space, tone, appearance, etc.).

** Understand when doing your observations that you must protect the privacy of the people you observe. Anything you discover as part of your observation that does not relate directly to the objective of the assignment needs to be kept confidential. There are three different roles that you, as the observer, may have as defined below (Patton, 1986). In your paper, please discuss the type of observation you did and what you learned from that aspect.

  • Full participant observation: You took part in the conversation and were part of the “observation.”
  • Partial observation: You were sometimes part of the conversation, but mostly stayed on the outer edge of it.
  • Onlooker: You were an outsider and simply observed another group’s interactions. (this is recommended for the assignment)

Note the number of people in the group and briefly describe the interactions that you observed (who is doing most of the talking, number of people involved, the way members are seated, clothes, and the topic of conversation, if you know it, etc.). Create a matrix to present your observations (an example of a completed matrix is shown below—you will create your own to fit your specific observations).

Gender Body language Facial Expressions Eye Contact Hand Gestures Space Tone Appearance
1 F Leaning towards the male Smiling – seemed flirtatious Trying to catch the eye of the male NA Leaning into the table toward the man High pitched Lots of make-up, hair fixed, a dress with heels
2 F Playing with hair Biting lip Rolling eyes at other female Playing with hair Slouched and pushed away NA – not talking Some make-up, hair in high pony, jeans and t-shirt
3 M Legs turned toward F2 Gaze at F2 Trying to catch the eyes of F2 NA Sitting at opposite side of table, so more space Inquisitive Jeans, polo shirt, flip flops, relaxed

Based on your observations on how nonverbal cues are regulating the flow of conversation, write an analysis including answers to the following questions. Be sure to use terms and concepts from the textbook, research, and module readings.

  • What do you think is the topic of conversation? Describe the topic of conversation.
  • Assess how each member’s body posture and movements convey his or her status and attitude.
  • Deduce which nonverbal signals are responsible for showing emotion and feeling. Examine how these nonverbal signals help to explain what is going on.
  • Differentiate between the gestures used by males vs. females—conclude if there is a noticeable difference.
  • Compare what the research says in relation to what you observed.
  • Identify any inconsistencies in the person’s nonverbal communication with what he or she was talking about (ex: shaking head “yes” and saying “no”).
  • Examine what type of observation you did in reference to this assignment (types are listed above).
  • What did you find most challenging about interpreting nonverbal behaviors in this setting?
  • How does this assignment help you to better understand nonverbal communication and gender?

By the due date assigned, submit your matrix and your analysis in Word format in a single file to the Submissions Area. Include your matrix as the final page following your reference list. Write a 4–5-page paper (not counting title and references pages or the matrix) in Word format. Apply APA standards for writing, formatting, and citation to you work.

The EHR Blues: Fears of Adopting the Threat of An EHR Data Breach

The EHR Blues: Fears of Adopting the Threat of An EHR Data Breach

As the Privacy and Security Officer,
one of the biggest fears that the board of directors (BOD) feared which
caused a bit of hesitancy to move forward with the adoption of the
EHR, has become a reality. You were recently notified of a recently
discovered data breach that impacted your employer which represents ten
(10) hospitals along the northeast coast. You are responsible for
creating a breach notification letter. This letter is sent to patients
whose patient health information (PHI) has been compromised in the
breach. According to federal regulations, the breach notification letter
must contain five required elements addressed in a customized manner
according to the situational circumstances and consisting of:

  1. A brief description of what happened, including the date of the breach and the date of the discovery of the breach, if known
  2. A description of the types of
unsecured PHI that were involved in the breach (i.e., full name, Social
Security number, date of birth, home address, account number, diagnosis,
    or disability code)
  3. Any steps individuals should take to protect themselves from potential harm resulting from the breach
  4. A brief description of what the
organization is doing to investigate the breach, to mitigate harm to the
individuals, and to protect against any further breaches
  5. Contact procedures for
individuals to ask questions or learn additional information, which
shall include a toll-free telephone number, an e-mail address, Website,
or postal address If appropriate. The organization may include other
    customized information, including:
  • Information about steps the organization is taking to prevent future similar breaches
  • Information about sanctions the
    organization imposed on workforce members involved in the breach;
Identity of workforce members should be on a need-to-know basis
    according to organizational policy
  • Consumer advice directing the individual to review account statements and monitor credit reports
  • Recommendations that the
individual place a fraud alert on their credit card accounts, or contact
a credit bureau to obtain credit monitoring services, if appropriate
  • Contact information for credit
reporting agencies, including the information needed for reports for
    criminal investigation and law enforcement
  • Contact information for national consumer reporting agencies

Create a letter that incorporates the
five required elements, and also include all six of the subcategories of
information found in item #5. Using the actual breach case of the
Affinity Health Plan in 2013 attached below; research a healthcare data
breach that occurred within the past ten years to better assist you in
understanding the true impact of a healthcare data breach and efforts
taken to respond and prevent future occurrences. You will need to make
up the specifics about your health care organization (email address,
website, phone number, address…) but use the case for specifics about
the breach event. Submit one (1) single presentation at the conclusion of Week Two no later than Sunday, by 11:59 PM EST. This is an individual assignment.

the letter to representative

This unit has stressed that civic participation is an important part of a working democratic system and that there are many ways for a person to get involved in this process. Voting is one important example, but concerned citizens also have the opportunity to write to their representatives at the state and national levels. Because the legislative branch makes the laws, it is important to let your representatives know your thoughts on certain issues.

find your representative

Now that you’ve chosen your topic and someone to write to, write your letter. Use the Process section below to help you figure out how to approach your letter. Make sure your letter includes an explanation of the issue you’ve picked and why it is important to you. Suggest at least one way you think the issue could be addressed by your congressperson or by the government. Optionally, have a fellow student do a peer review of your letter before you turn it in. Once your teacher has graded your letter, send it on to your representative.

Business Law Case Analysis

In light of your understanding of the civil and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) process, consider the following scenario:

Pete was seriously injured when the four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle (ATV) he was driving through the trails behind his house rolled over. As a result of his injuries, Pete is unable to work and has incurred $75,000 in medical bills. Pete has filed a lawsuit against the ATV manufacturer to receive compensation for the financial harm resulting from his injuries. Pete claims that the manufacturer defectively designed the ATV, causing it to have a tendency to roll over on rough terrain.

The ATV manufacturer claims that the ATV is not defectively designed and that the rollover was caused by Pete driving at an excessive rate of speed around a corner.

Consider the steps in civil litigation and ADR, and assess the factors that Pete and the ATV manufacturer will consider when deciding whether they should settle this lawsuit. If you were Pete’s lawyer, what resolution would you advise? Be sure to consider the primary forms of ADR and all ADR factors described in the lesson and textbook.

Finally, research and select at least one case from an outside source to support your resolution to the ATV case. Your answer should be a minimum of 500 words. Cite any direct quotes or paraphrased material from these sources. Use APA format to properly reference your information.
