Biopsychosocial Holistic Approach

The assessment and incorporation of a client’s spirituality has become increasingly common in the field of social work. While historically social workers were trained to avoid discussions centered on religion, we now know that spirituality encompasses many ways of believing. “The Society for Spirituality and Social Work is a network of social workers and other helping professionals dedicated to spiritually sensitive practice and education” (Society for Spirituality and Social Work, n.d.). Addressing a client’s spirituality allows for a biopsychosocial holistic approach that can aid in the process of understanding illness, disability, and end-of-life issues.

For this Discussion, review the Monod et al. (2010) article and locate one scholarly article addressing spirituality with the elderly. (Please be detailed and use sub-headings)

• Post your explanation of the significance of addressing spirituality with the elderly.
• Identify a spiritually based intervention for this population.
• Describe the effectiveness of the use of spirituality with the elderly as found in the literature.

Discussion 2: Life Review

While the use of reminiscing about one’s life may not seem a particularly therapeutic approach, the use of life reviews has been found to be correlated with life satisfaction (Haight, 1992) and positive mental health outcomes (Westerhof, Bohlmeijer, van Beljouw, & Pot, 2010). The spontaneous and informal sharing of one’s life story to provide younger generations insight into history is an age-old tradition that, according to Haber (2006), has diminished recently under the shadow of the technical age. In response, practitioners have “found” this tool in the therapeutic process. There have been several theories used to support the integration of this intervention. You will be asked to identify and assess a theory you believe best fits this approach to working with the elderly.

Think back to your favorite commodity from your childhood (book, cartoon, movie, song, etc.) OR your favorite hero from your adolescence and take a deeper look.

Using the arguments presented in De Zengotita’s Mediated about the products of our childhood and their deeper meanings OR the twilight of heroes, construct a 5-page essay (1,500 words maximum) that offers a detailed reflection on the significance of your chosen commodity or hero. Spend the first ¼ of the paper describing the product or hero in detail. Use the balance of the paper to address the key questions listed below. Be sure to use the Blob, mediation, and other key concepts from Mediated as a framework:

What does this media product or hero say about our larger cultural experience?

What about your cultural experience as a child? (or as an adolescent)?

What is this cultural object’s (hero’s) significance? Or upon deeper reflection, is it (or him/her) insignificant?

What can you offer in terms of a critique of the cultural product’s mode of production/the media’s treatment of your hero?

What is the “real experience” of interacting with this media product or hero as a child/adolescent? Now as an adult?

How has your perception of this product or hero changed from childhood/adolescence given your reading of Mediated?

Observable Learning Outcomes

Your first major task in our class is to create five observable learning outcomes from each course in your degree plan. You will use these outcomes to guide your internship activities and the development of major projects for this class. The key goal of this course is for you to apply what you have learned over the course of your degree program and demonstrate your application of self-developed learning outcomes through your internship and your course projects. As often as possible, you should create observable learning outcomes that you can actively apply to your internship environment.

Look back at all of the courses that you have taken for your degree program and develop five observable learning outcomes based on each course you have taken. Please use the project from Assignment 1  to complete this assignment, which requires that you provide the necessary scope for your project.

A project scope includes many variables. The Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) must be defined prior to the start of the project to ensure that all of the details are planned.

Write an eight to ten (8-10) page project charter in which you:

1. Define the project including the vision, objectives, and scope of the project.
2. Determine the customers who will use the deliverables produced from the project.
3. Specify the key stakeholders for this project.
4. Determine the role and responsibilities of each project team resource. Include the scheduling duration for each resource.
5. Graphically depict the project organizational structure. Note: Include a screenshot of the image file to show your work.
6. Create a WBS using principles of project scheduling and budgeting through the use of Excel spreadsheet, Word table, or other similar project-specific software. Next, develop the cost and time estimates and allocate resources where applicable.
7. Determine the major project milestones and the required delivery dates. Analyze why each milestone is solely critical to the project.
8. Document the main dependencies, risks, issues, and assumptions of the project. Select the top three (3) most important risks of the project planning and project management process. Suggest strategies to mitigate those risks. 
9. Summarize the project budget approved by the project sponsor. 
10. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.
