Strategic Management Concepts and Cases 11th -515-524.pdf 1 Threats of potential new entrants

A high return of the industry will attract some potential entrants into the industry, potential entrants will lead to more intense market competition, which may affect the structure of pricing. The number and quality of potential entrants are determined by the entry barriers that have been established, and some of the firm’s response to the current market. Barriers to potential entrants to the invasion include: high capital demand, economies of scale, product diversification, limited distribution channels, government regulation as well as the establishment of supplier and consumer loyalty. As far as Blue Nile is concerned, it is difficult to invade, because it is a diamond enterprise, enterprises should be established as a basis of much capital, but the general enterprise does not exist such ability, even if there is the ability to invade, also need a certain professional knowledge and do some in-depth market research. For example, how to get the trust of the suppliers is a challenge. Blue Nile is a large-scale enterprise, the general business of the entry is difficult to affect its status in the industry. At the same time, after many years of market accumulation, Blue Nile already has its own customers. Even if the new brand is also very difficult to shake their trust in blue. The most important advantage is that the diversification of products, customers can according to their own preferences, and holidays, to select different diamonds to make their own exclusive.

2.Bargaining power of buyers

the bargaining power of the consumer directly affects the entire market, such as they generally expect low prices or special services. Their bargaining power is directly forced to reduce the price or quality of the upgrade, which also makes the company’s operating profit decreased. In my view, there is almost no such problem in Blue Nile, because we can see that Nile Blue provides customers with a more convenient way to buy jewelry. Simple design and operating system to provide customers with tens of thousands of independent certified diamonds and the classic collection of jewelry, to give customers tens of thousands of extraordinary choice. And in the price is the traditional jewelry retailers homogeneous product price of 6-7 fold. To provide customers with product identification knowledge, so that consumers can make a wise choice, is the main principle of Nile Blue. At the same time, its service is also in place, as the retailer’s website, its products almost oriented around the world. However, most countries and regions enjoy free postage for mailing services.

3.Bargaining power of suppliers

Similar to the threat to the bargaining power of consumers, suppliers’ bargaining power also directly affects the market, suppliers want to further reduce the cost to achieve by driving up prices or reducing the quality of the product. Nile blue with quality suppliers to establish a good cooperative relationship, can get the same quality of the price of the same quality, while the diamond manufacturers are willing to put their bare drilling through Nile Blue exclusive sales. The advantage of Nile blue is that it has a good relationship with more than 40 suppliers, which can guarantee the material to be supplied in time, and it is not easy to be controlled by the supplier

4.Threats of substitutes

The product strategy of marketing should be turned to the customer as the center, the customer requests the demand, the enterprise auxiliary customer design and the development product, satisfies the customer personalization demand. Therefore, this method is called “production and consumption of the connection”. Marketing process is not only the process of selling products, the first is a process to meet the needs of customers, and customer needs are many, not only the physical and material needs, but also psychological and spiritual needs, therefore, marketing products should be a product as a whole. While, it’s not easy to be replaced.

5.Threats of competitive rivalry within the industry

Blue Nile’s decision to offer the highest quality diamonds in spite of it operating in an online environment where it could easily position itself purely as a “discounter” has been key to creating this dilemma. Competitors with brick and mortar locations are then left to decide whether they should sell their product online at a lower cost than a customer would find in-store in order to compete (knowing that this could negatively impact the brick- and-mortar location) or not go head-to-head with Blue Nile online.13 This dilemma helps Blue Nile keep its stronghold as the largest online jewelry retailer.

Discussion 11

Assignment:

300-400 words

First of all, watch the following videos:

Benzodiazepine Awareness (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

In Their Own Words: The Truth About Benzos (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Xanax: As Addictive As Heroin? (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Oxycontin Express: Heroin Made in a Lab (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Have you, or any family or friends, had any experiences with prescription depressants such as valium, oxycontin, benzodiazepine, vicodin, xanax, etc? If so, and you would like to share, please describe the experience. Do you know anyone who has had any experience “Dr. Shopping.” If so, describe the process. By most measures, prescription drug abuse is a greater health issue than illicit drug use. That being said, why are we, as a culture, so obsessed with so-called ‘street’ drugs while we more or less ignore the prescription drug problem? Why has Florida, particularly Broward County, been the heart of ‘Script Mills’ and ‘Dr. Shopping’? What is being done to combat this problem in Florida?

Write a report on Infrastructure in an Organization?

You are a solutions architect for the company, MyKids, which is a fairly new (3 years old) e-commerce company specializing in kids clothing and toys. This is a very competitive environment and your CEO, Adele Watkins, wants to greatly expand the customer base, capitalizing on the bankruptcy of KidsRUs and ToysRuS.

Over the past year you have migrated many of the IT resources to the cloud (see attached). This is a multi-cloud environment with four major components:

  1. HQ: the company still runs an internal data center which hosts the company’s ERP system, including all the company’s financial data.
  2. Amazon Cloud: customer facing applications such as the company catalog and the e-commerce actions. Inventory is also stored on the Amazon site and is accessible by the company suppliers such as Hasbro.
  3. IBM Cloud, where the company’s data analysis and mining activities are housed, using tools such as IBM Watson.
  4. Microsoft Azure Cloud including the company’s administrative systems using Office 365 and SharePoint (including documents which include the company’s intellectual property).

You have been slowly implementing DevOps to make the organization more agile but there have been a few security issues. The CIO, Pedro Martinez, is concerned about the company’s reputation if data breaches and has asked you to prepare a report that address this.

This report should include the following, in your own words:

  1. Describe the different components of the IT infrastructure and what advantages does each cloud provider and the on-premise facility have for the company
  2. Describe what does Cloudfare does
  3. Discuss the value of DevOps in this environment (at least 3 references to sites that recommend DevOps)
  4. Describe all the security devices that are part of the solution and how they protect the company (e.g., firewall, routers)
  5. Discuss DevSecOps as the next project for your team, explain what it means, and how it will improve the company’s security (at least 3 links to sites that recommend DevSecOps and 2 companies that are using it)
  6. A summary of how you are continuing to poise the company for a sudden growth in sales as other toy companies declare bankruptcy.

This is a formal report, with a cover page, an automatically generated table of contents using meaningful and short headings, and at least 4 pages of text (you may include relevant graphics). The report is for the CIO with a copy to the CEO who does not have a strong technical background and so the report should avoid too much jargon. To overcome this, add a glossary at the end of the report including at least 6 technical terms you have used in your report. Your report should include about 2,000 words.

You also need to include a cover letter to the CIO, copy to the CEO.

Note: each of the cloud routers is also a load balancer

I will attach a copy of the cloud routers to FOLLOW the direction..

TD Question Bussiness, business and finance homework help

In this final
discussion I want to take a humorous look at one form of foreign market
entry—outsourcing to India. You can of course find various articles on
this topic, but let’s end the class on a fun note and instead take a
look at the movie Outsourced. The movie was made in 2007 and
directed by John Jeffcoat. In general, students have been able to find
the movie free online but the links change from time to time. At “press
time” this link worked:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=why31NMoEfE

Try to watch at least the first 20 minutes. Does this movie you an
idea of the challenges of entering a foreign market through outsourcing?
Do the cultural differences shown in the movie seem to be consistent
with what you’ve read about in the readings so far in the class? Do you
think the director made at least a somewhat realistic movie about
outsourcing to India?

If the link no longer works, see if you can find the movie online
somewhere else. There is also a TV series based on the movie. See if you
can find the first episode. At “press time” this link worked:

http://www.hulu.com/watch/178528

In general, the TV series should be easier to find than the movie,
but it is a lot sillier, so first try to find the movie. If all else
fails, try to find an article about a Westerner working in India. Your
professor might also be able to find an alternative topic for this
discussion.

Keep in mind that this movie relates not only to the concept of
foreign-entry mode but also the concept of cross-cultural management and
expatriate culture-shock that you read about in Module 1. So make sure
to include references to any relevant sources from the Module 1 or
Module 4 background readings.

For those of you who end up watching the full movie, please write a
review for your classmates to help them decide whether or not they want
to finish the movie (no spoilers in your reviews though…).

You must start a thread before you can read and reply to other threads

WEEK 5 ESSAY QUESTIONS

Instructions: Answer all questions in a single document. Then submit to the
appropriate assignment folder. Each response to a single essay question should
be about a half-page in length (about 150 words).

1. Access controls are security features that are usually considered the first
line of defense in asset protection. They are used to dictate how subjects
access objects, and their main goal is to protect the objects from
unauthorized access. Access control models are frameworks that use access
controls to enforce the rules and objectives of the model. In your essay
response, compare the different Access Control Models and give an
example of one that you have used in a work situation or if that is not
possible, one that you’ve read about in a scholarly article.

2. Relying on a password to secure access to a system does not provide
enough security in today’s complex world. The Office of Personnel
Management learned this the hard way in 2015. Since OPM was hacked
and it was learned that the attackers compromised their system
administrator accounts that were protected only with passwords, the
Federal government has required the use of multifactor authentication for
privileged accounts. Describe the three factors that can be used in
authentication and give at least two examples for each.

3. There are two main methods of access control administration that an
organization can choose between to achieve the level of protection that
they need to secure their assets and information: centralized and
decentralized. Describe the RADIUS, TACACS, and DIAMETER forms of
centralized access control administration. What are the advantages and
disadvantages of decentralized administration.
