Some additional information that I would need to gather would be Maria’s eating habits and activity levels. I would need to know how often she eats, her servings and what types of food she consumes. Is she eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean meats and whole grains? How often does she exercise? What medications she is currently prescribed, including all over the counter medications? I would also like to know her past and current medical history, along with her family history. Is there a history of diabetes, obesity, or cardiac issues?

Maria’s real health risk would be obesity, of course we would need to obtain an accurate weight first. Her potential risks would include diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.

Maria’s culture is important when obtaining a health assessment because her Hispanic culture could influence her dietary habits and medications. Her culture could also increase her risk of developing other health concerns such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer (Tung, 2015).

The health risk of obesity can be managed by providing nutrition education and initiating a physical activity schedule. Maria could start by watching her calorie intake, eating healthy foods and consuming food in moderation. She can do this by documenting in a food diary and recording her weight. Maria could also begin exercising daily or at least every other day until she can free up some of her time. She could set a short-term goal of losing 5 pounds in a 3-month time frame.

A nursing intervention that I would incorporate into Maria’s plan of care to assist her with meeting a 5-pound weight loss would be exercising daily or every other day for 20-30 minutes, she could do this at the college gym, in between classes. She could also begin documenting in a food diary, and limit sweets and foods high in sugar. The food diary will assist her in determining foods that are high in calories and fat, and how she can eliminate them.

I strongly recommend that you submit a cover page, write each question in a page by itself, and submit your references page (referencing your textbook, and demonstrating that you have performed adequate research by citing at least two other sources in addition of your textbook to get your max points.

Read Chapter’s 2 “Domino Sizzles with Pizza Tracker” Case Study. Answer the following questions:

1) What kinds of systems are described in this case? Identify and describe the business processes each supports. Describe the inputs, and outputs of these systems.

This week during lecture we focused on C. Wright Mills’ “The Sociological Imagination,” Blumer’s “Social Problems as Collective Behavior,” and Hilgartner and Bosk’s “The Rise and Fall of Social Problems.” Based on the ideas of these readings and material covered during lecture, here are three sets of questions for you to write about:

#1. Briefly explain the main points behind C. Wright Mills’ argument for the sociological imagination? Identify a contemporary “public issue” that is of unique significance to you. Describe various aspects of the public issue and explain what makes this issue “public” rather than a “personal trouble.”

#2. In “Social Problems as Collective Behavior,” Herbert Blumer argues that social problems are products of a process of collective definition instead of existing independently as a set of objective social arrangements with an intrinsic makeup. Why is this distinction important? What do we gain by studying social problems as a process of collective behavior?

#3. In “The Rise and Fall of Social Problems,” Hilgartner and Bosk outline a “public arena model” for interpreting the relevance of social problems. Why do certain social problems “rise and fall” as the authors contend? Choose a public issue that is prevalent in contemporary media coverage. Use one of the model’s “principles of selection” (drama, cultural politics, novelty and saturation, or organizational features) to explain why you think this issue has persisted as a social problem.

Creating an Argument: The Electoral College

This week we learned about the presidency, the powers of the presidency, and the unique way our president is elected via the Electoral College. In this assignment you will be guided in creating a complete argument regarding whether or not you think the Electoral College should be kept or eliminated.

This activity will be useful practice in how to create and present and thoughtful argument. The ability to create and communicate a thoughtful argument will help you out in future studies and in any career.

Your essay must be at least 500 words long.

Follow these steps to create an argument in the form of an essay:

Step 1: In one or two very clear sentences state whether or not you think the Electoral College should be kept or eliminated. This is called writing a thesis statement.

Step 2: In three paragraphs describing three (3) arguments that support your position regarding the Electoral College. Give each argument one paragraph. Do not just list three arguments in support of your position regarding the Electoral College. You must tell the reader why each of your three arguments supports your position on the Electoral College.

Step 3: In three paragraphs describe three (3) arguments that go against your position regarding the Electoral College. This is called addressing counterarguments. Give each counterargument one paragraph. Describe the counterargument and then tell the reader of your essay why that counterargument should be dismissed.

Step 4: Write one paragraph concluding your essay. Restate your initial position on the Electoral College. And review the one or two arguments that you found to be the most compelling in support of your position.

Step 5: Write a reference list. In any good argument you will present your ideas but then include evidence from credible external sources to support your ideas. Always include a reference list.

In outline form your paper should look like this.

1. Introduction: Thesis statement of your position regarding the Electoral College.
2. Three arguments supporting your position.
   1. Describe argument 1 and why it supports your position.
   2. Describe argument 2 and why it supports your position.
   3. Describe argument 3 and why it supports your position.
3. Three counter arguments opposing your position.
   1. Describe counter argument 1 and why it is not sufficient.
   2. Describe counter argument 2 and why it is not sufficient.
   3. Describe counter argument 3 and why it is not sufficient.
4. Conclusion paragraph.
