Title: My OD Intervention Project—Task 2

This course has major assignments that will be due in Weeks 3 and 5. It will take more than a week’s effort to adequately complete them. Plan time to start the research and other work for those assignments earlier than the week in which they are due.

Last week, you selected an organization for your project and wrote a report including the name of the organization (may be disguised) and the problem(s) the organization is facing.

This week:

Prepare a report indicating the entry process. In your report, address the following prompts:

When you enter the organization as an external consultant, justify whether you will use a problem-oriented or a development-oriented diagnosis for this project.

Justify how you will determine the organization’s readiness for change.

On the basis of your chosen diagnosis approach from the first bullet point, assess the organizational issue that is the target for change. Be sure to focus on root causes and not just symptoms. What will be the appropriate organizational level to initiate the change? (State the real issue for a real organization and create a realistic issue for a hypothetical one.)

Propose when you will give the organization feedback about the change you implement. How will you include feedback about how well the change is working in your action plan? What will that feedback be? Will you develop a survey to assess the effectiveness of the change, or will you use company reports that already exist or may need to be altered to gather pertinent information?

Submission Details:

Present a 3- to 4-page paper in a Microsoft Word document formatted in APA style.

• Double spaced.
• Name, class, and class time at the top right corner
• Paper should include a works cited page with the 1 source citation MLA FORMAT.

• Your summary must answer the following questions.
• 1. Who is the author? What kind of organization is the author associated with?
• 
  That is, what are the author’s credentials?
• 2.What are the author’s main ideas/key points?
• 2a.What is the background of the research? Why are they doing this research? (Background)
• 2b. What are their methods, i.e. what did they do?
• 2c.What are their important results? What did they find as a result of this research? (Results)
• 2d. Why do they think these results happened? What do their results indicate for future research/application? (Discussion)
• 3.Why is the author writing this work
• 4. When you combine all your answers above into one paragraph, you have an annotation. Revise and edit it for narrative coherence and readability.

Copy and paste the numbered questions into a word processing program and address each question in a full paragraph, 5-7 sentences. You can exceed the number of paragraphs per question but don’t write half page paragraphs! Your paper should be 1-1/2 pages long for credit. If you settle for the minimum expect a C.

1. What was the main theme or purpose of the readings? What problems or concerns were identified?

2. How do the Additional Sources support the chapter?

3. What were the interactions between “the powerful” and “the people?” What choices did “the people” have in response to “the powerful?” How did “the people” respond to these problems?

4. How are the problems identified in the reading similar to problems encountered by “the people” today? What actions can you take to address or solve these problems today? This is where you solve modern problems using history as a model. If you state “It can’t be solved” expect an F for the assignment!

A company that has undoubtedly grown and expanded by diversification strategy and business models is that of Procter and Gamble. It is the world class leader in its industry, this company is easily identified and commonly known for the manufacture and distribution of their household goods. Its beauty and grooming business line generate more than 70% of its revenue, thus, making it their most dominant business line of all times.

Through vertical integration P&G has managed to make an easy and smooth transition into other related markets and enable them to not only exploit and expand those markets but add value and competitive advantage to an already known value chain. In the process, they have learned that adding value through diversification should not only rely on brand name products such as Tide, Crest, Charming and Dawn products but through the creation of a better customer service experiences and customer excellence practices.

These changes have translated into making sure that customers are served “in different ways but all with a focus on making peoples’ lives a bit easier.” (P&G) According to Forbes article, “Here’s How P&G’s Brand Consolidation Program Could Backfire and Push Its Valuation Below $60” written by the Trefis Team, P&G developed a program to consolidate all higher revenue generating brands in an effort to purge and rid of all other product lines that were depleting their growth potential. The biggest threat to this new concept is the death “of diversification due to the brand consolidation program” (Trefis Team, 2015) but firm’s CEO cites that “as a result, P&G will be able to transform itself into a far leaner organization with minimal loss of revenues.” (Trefis Team, 2015)
