Stakeholder Salience

Stakeholders view organizational effectiveness through the lenses of their personal points of interest in the corporation. Finding those who share similar points of interest leads to coalition building as a means of increasing salience. Globalization magnifies the salience of these stakeholder coalitions toward both positive and negative ends. In this assignment, assume the perspective of a researcher studying the effects of globalization on stakeholder coalition building and salience.

General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

  • Instructors will be using a grading rubric to grade the assignments. It is recommended that learners review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment in order to become familiar with the assignment criteria and expectations for successful completion of the assignment.
  • Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.
  • This assignment requires that at least two additional scholarly research sources related to this topic, and at least one in-text citation from each source be included.
  • You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin. Refer to the directions in the Student Success Center. Only Word documents can be submitted to Turnitin.

Directions:

In a paper of 1,000–1,250 words, assume the perspective of a researcher studying the effects of globalization on stakeholder coalition building and salience and discuss the scholarly literature that will guide your research. The literature you select should address the following research questions:

  1. Why do stakeholders build coalitions as a means of increasing salience?
  2. How has globalization affected stakeholder coalition building?
  3. How has globalization of coalitions affected stakeholder salience?
  4. How do corporations harness or mitigate stakeholder salience to achieve established corporate goals?

POST 1:

First ethical issue discussed was the United Airlines dragging a passenger off the plane and the video that went viral from this incident. Overall, this incident was handled poorly by management and caused public outcry along with calls for boycott of this airline. From a management standpoint it was sanitized and the apology was not as sincere as the public expected. Also overall for management when an issue that ethically arises it causes secondary and tertiary issues i.e. more complaints to airline representatives, all employees having to acknowledge and respond to questions about events, and overall chance of loss of profit if the public outcry is enough. In this situation the person who was treated aggressively by security settled out of court and just like in many situations this was over time forgotten by the court of public opinion.

The other story that I read in the article below is about Weinstein and Co. and discusses the sexual harassment and assault allegations made by over 100 women against him overtime. “Starting in October, more than 100 actresses came forward with accusations of sexual misconduct against the Hollywood kingpin dating back for decades. Weinstein apologized — but it wasn’t enough to save the producer of Oscar-winning films from termination from Weinstein Co. Nor did it calm the public’s growing outrage over how Weinstein had managed to maintain his position” (Fortune, 2017). Overall this situation caused a major outcry and many survivors came forward to ensure that justice was served against this perpetrator. This impacted his company as he will no longer be part of the film industry despite the many people that tried to protect him along the way.

Both of these situations have similarities to things that have happened in the Army. There have been incidents of hazing and physical abuse of recruits and Soldiers along with many sexual harassment and assault investigations throughout the organization.

POST 2:

After completing a scavenger hunt, I stumbled across Well Fargo as a negative example of an organization that dealt with ethical issues and choose 3M as an organization that executes positive ethics.

Over the past year and a half, the Well Fargo has admitted to creating fake accounts, hitting customers with unfair mortgage fees, and charging people for car insurance they didn’t need. On September 16, 2016, the fake account scandal broke wide open as federal regulators revealed that employees secretly created millions of unauthorized bank and credit card accounts without their customers knowing it. On the contrary, the bank’s management believed that the increased number of clients was an indication of increased sales and profitability. As a result, they pressurized their workers to sell as many accounts as possible, but the managers failed to scrutinize their numbers to ascertain if they were genuine. Last week, we talked about managers, and I think it is safe to say that this makes such managers liable for the neglect of duty.

I am not sure how many of you are familiar with The Ethisphere Institute, but they are the global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices that fuel corporate character, marketplace trust, and business success (Ethisphere, n.d.). According to The Ethisphere Institute, 3M is rank #1 (five years in a row) as the 2018 most ethical companies in the world. 3M plays a critical role to influence and drive positive change in the business community and societies around the world and work to maximize their impact wherever possible (Companies, n.d.). It is evident that 3M is a company that does not retaliate against whistleblowers, they reward their employees, and they take the time to investigate and resolve ethical issues when they arise.

Confuian Ideas

Unit 3 Discussion: Confucian Ideas

Introduction:

Are Confucius’s ideas still relevant? In order to answer this question, we must first try to understand what those ideas were. But prior to looking at some introductory materials, do note that Confucianism has been seeing something of a revival in China over the last couple of decades. For instance, take a look at this report:

(click here for a text transcript)

Initial Post Instructions:

For your discussion, first view a video about Confucius put together by Dr. Bryan W. Van Norden, a professor of Chinese Philosophy. Following, review the “Selections from the Confucian Analects: On Filial Piety and Humaneness” you have already read, as well as the additional selection here.

Throughout China’s imperial era, Confucius was often cited by scholar-officials as support for their arguments – regarding, for instance, how a person should handle a problem with a personal relationship or what kind of policies the emperor should adopt. For your discussion, select at least three passages from Confucius, explain what you think they mean, why Confucius was propounding these ideas in his own time, and explain why they might still be relevant today. If you don’t think any are relevant, then choose three and explain why they aren’t relevant.

Required materials:

Selection from the Confucian Analects: On Confucius as a Teacher and Person (click to open in a new tab)

Selections from the Confucian Analects: “On Filial Piety and Humaneness” (click to open in a new tab)

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Please use our primary source documents for Confucius. Although many websites contain good translations of the Analects, others will misguide you into believing Confucius said things he didn’t.

Career Opportunities,

Morrison, G. S. (2015). Early childhood education today (13th ed.). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson.

  1. Consider the range of positions included on the Early Childcare and Education Career Guide Web site. Looking only at the position titles and career areas (and not at the information provided on the links), explain two insights or conclusions that you can draw from this site about career possibilities within the early childhood field.
  2. As you have learned, accommodating diverse learners is a characteristic of quality care and education programs. Choose one of the four jobs highlighted on the Personnel Improvement Center: Career Development Web site that is of most interest to you. Describe the role of this job in ensuring that children who may have special needs are supported in an early care and education program. Explain why the job appeals to you and what else you would need to know to consider it as a career direction.
  3. Based on the Employment, Job Outlook, and Projections Data for each of the four positions from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook Web site, summarize the job prospects for these positions in the early childhood field from now through the year 2016, and include the related figures from the Projections Data charts in your explanation. Then identify one or more positions that are of most interest to you in considering a career direction, and explain your choices.

UOF Cumberlands Threat Modeling with Stride

We use many different types of risk management methodologies and tools. A part of the process involves identifying the threats to our system, generally by attackers who would harm our systems and data (assets). I’ve included a project that walks you through a simple threat modeling exercise, using STRIDE, which you will apply using a scenario, to understand the basic process.

1. Read the threat modeling article using STRIDE located at https://www.webtrends.com/blog/2015/04/threat-modeling-with-stride/ and complete a threat model and risk management plan

2. Read the attached Project description. you will create a report for your “boss” identifying the threats to your systems/assets in the scenario, who the attackers are, how they will attack (using STRIDE), and will make recommendations for security controls (use your textbook, too).
