Part Two:

Create and briefly describe a fictional large company of your choice. This is your company and it should preferably be in your current or desired future industry. This company and the HR mission statement you create will be used as a foundation for future assignments in this course.

Use your analysis to write your own HR mission statement for your fictional company. Consider the following questions when evaluating and formulating your mission statement. Keep in mind that good mission statements are short, clear, concise, & brief hard-hitting comments on your mission.

  • Why does your HR function exist? What do you want for your customers and how can HR provide that?
  • Who are your customers and what can you do for them that will enrich their lives and contribute to their success, both present and future?
  • What image of your function do you want to convey internally and externally? Customers, employees and the public will all have perceptions of your company. How will HR help create the desired picture?
  • What level of service do you provide to employees and the company? Don’t be vague; define what will make your service extraordinary.
  • What kind of relationships will your HR function maintain with customers? Every company function is in partnership with its customers. When you succeed, so do they.
  • What underlying philosophies or values guided your responses to the previous questions? Some mission statements choose to list these separately (as core values or vision). Writing them down clarifies the “why” behind your mission.
  • Does your HR function’s mission statement describe and support what your company will do and why it will do it (the company’s core values)?

information systems projects in organizations, management homework help

Background:

There is strong evidence in the research literature that a high percentage of information systems projects in organizations are deemed as partial or total failures. A completed project that does meet the planned scope, budget, completion deadline, or quality goals is typically classified as a “failure.” Chapters 3 and 4 in your course textbook address information systems project identification, planning, and management.

The Tasks:

Drawing from the information on information systems project management presented in Chapters 3 and 4, and a minimum of four sources on this topic located through web-based research, write a research report addressing the following topics in sections labelled with Level 1, 2, and 3 headings, see sample paper (Links to an external siteLinks to an external site.) for examples of APA headings.

  • A concise explanation of what qualifies as a “success” in an information system project.
  • A discussion of why it is so difficult to succeed in an information systems project environment. In other words, what IS project-related factors typically lead to project outcomes deemed as failures?
  • An identification of, and a convincing argument for, strategies that can be used to potentially overcome the factors identified and discussed in the previous section.
  • An explanation of how a project outcome that meets time, cost, and budget constraints may still be considered as a failure.
  • A discussion of the potential impact of team conflict on project outcomes. What are the types, or categories, of team conflict? Identify and discuss at least three strategies for successfully resolving or minimizing team conflict occurences.

Research Recommendation:

It is recommended that you start your literature search from scholar.google.com (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. using a variety of search string related to the topical requirements listed in the Tasks section above.

Reading response, read the follow paragraph, write 300 words response. Add one citation from files materials.

After completing week three readings, I have chosen to focus my discussion on the concept of peasantry. Peasantry is talked about in a small way in a few of the readings, but is the primary focus in Kautsky’s “The Peasant Industry” from the Agrarian Question, on pages 186-190 of the packet. This specific reading stood out to me and was helpful to use in better understanding the other readings because it explains the idea of the progression of peasantry and also its “rapid demise” (packet p. 187) The first half of the reading talks about how the medieval peasant family was very self sufficient and was able to produce all of the things they needed (food, clothes, tools, leather, house accessories, etc.) (Packet, P.186) Their only purpose for needing to trade was to trade things that they had excess of. The benefit of this, as Kautsky explains, is that “the enemy could not actually destroy them” (Packet, P.23)

This changed however with the development of industry. The piece of this section that was most noteworthy and interesting to me is that the peasantry goods became luxury items, and therefore too expensive to consume and also for them to make, changing the dynamic of how their economy previously ran. I found this very interesting, and wanted to point out how something that was essential to them, some how became a luxury good to someone else, in what appears to be such a quick period of time.

I wanted to compare this reading to the reading of Michael Altieri’s “Ecological Impacts of Industrial Agriculture and the possibility for Truly sustainable farming.” (Packet, P191-199) This reading discusses the concept of monocultures and the issues that come with crop specialization where the same crop is grown on the same land year after year. The reading discusses how when multiple different crops are grown on the same land, the soil gets nutrients and differentiation from these different crops, so in doing monocultures, there is an issue where fertilizers and repellents become needed. My point of bringing this up in comparison to peasantry is that the peasants produced all of their own things, so I would assume they also used one spot of land for many different purposes, such as growing many different crops. I am curious, at what point did it become noticed that it was a benefit to the soil in doing this? And was part of the reason that monoculture started because the peasants could no longer afford the “luxury goods” they were making before? Perhaps I am totally off base here, however it was something that got me thinking about the relation between peasantry and monocultures, and in turn, the wellness of the soil.”

Landlord-Tenant Law

Larry Landlord has recently renovated an apartment and has put it on the market to be rented for $800.00 a month. Larry Landlord has been in business for approximately five (5) years and has had both positive and negative experiences with tenants. Larry Landlord is hoping to find a good, long-term tenant for his apartment. Roger Renter saw Larry’s sign for the apartment for rent and thought the location and the apartment would be perfect. Roger met Larry to look at the apartment and Roger fell in love with it. All of the interior fixtures had been replaced and the unit had a nice large closet. Roger noticed that although newly painted, the exterior of the apartment did show a little bit of wear. Because of the condition of the exterior of the building, Roger asked Larry about any roof leaks. Larry stated that he had never had a leak and was not aware of any leaks.

Roger and Larry entered into a valid contract for the rental of the apartment. (Note: The issue of whether or not a contract exists is NOT part of this question. For purposes of this question assume the contract is valid and there are no issues with the contract.)

Roger Renter was very happy in his new location; the apartment was quiet and the neighbors were friendly. Larry Landlord was also very happy because Roger Renter was a model tenant. Roger Renter paid on time and was quiet and respectful to other tenants.

The part of the country where Roger rented was rainy in the summertime. Roger rented and moved into the apartment in October. In June, a tremendous rainstorm occurred and Roger’s roof began to leak. The leak was minor at first and Roger merely put a trash can under the leak and had no other issues that month. When handing over his monthly rent check, Roger told Larry about the small leak. Larry thanked Roger for letting him know about the leak and told Roger he would have it fixed.

The next month the rains came again and the leak grew larger in Roger’s apartment. Roger was not home at the time of the rain and therefore the leak damaged some of Roger’s furniture. Roger called Larry to let him know that there was a leak and asked when it might be fixed. Roger also stated that he thought Larry had fixed the roof. Larry curtly stated, “When it rains, sometimes it pours. When it pours, sometimes it leaks.” Roger did not like Larry’s tone or response and called back to ask when the roof might be fixed. Larry stated, “When I get to it.” The following day, Roger sent Larry a note about the roof leak and asked Larry to please address the issue.

The week before the rent was due, another rainstorm occurred and the leak was even larger. This time the leak damaged Roger’s clothing, furniture, and some precious items he had inherited from family members. Roger called Larry and asked Larry to fix roof immediately. Larry responded in a similar and condescending manner. Roger hung up the phone and threw his baseball bat against the wall, damaging the drywall and knocking out an electrical socket.

Since it was the rainy season, Roger knew it would rain again and therefore simply moved his items away from the leak and did nothing to help mitigate the damage from the leaking roof.

Larry came into the apartment to investigate the leak and found damage from not only the leak but also from the thrown baseball bat. Roger states that the baseball bat damage was a direct result of Larry’s inability to fix the leak based on his anger from Larry’s curt response.

Suppose you are a mediator. In five to seven (5-7) pages discuss the rights and responsibilities of the landlord and the tenant in which you:

  1. Explore the legal rights and responsibilities of the tenant and the landlord.
  2. Decide whether or not the landlord and / or the tenant had a legal duty to mitigate damages.
  3. Determine whether or not Larry has legal grounds to evict Roger. Explain why or why not.
  4. Describe whether or not Roger has a legal obligation to pay for the damage he caused and determine whether or not Larry would be liable for any direct damage.
  5. Support each response with facts presented in the scenario.
  6. Use proper legal terminology throughout your responses.
  7. Use at least three (3) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as quality academic resources.
  8. Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
    • Typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
    • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
    • Include a reference page. Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.

Project Management Financial Assessments project

The CIO wants to make sure that your project schedule is accurate, that the project does not bring big surprises that are not planned for, and that he can be sure that what is needed gets accomplished. Your presentation to the project staff on the PERT techniques was highly appraised. However, having reviewed your WBS and the project time estimates, the CIO is now concerned about the project schedule and would like to see if the schedule can be shortened. Review your project WBS and activity durations and estimates and perform schedule compression techniques such as crashing, fast-tracking, and scope reduction. Then, write a memo to him assuring him of how you have reviewed ways to shorten the schedule and how all these things are controlled; explain the value of PERT estimating, critical path, schedule compression techniques, risk matrices, and earned value management. In your write-up be sure to advise the CIO whether or not your review techniques resulted in shortening the project duration, and indicate whether or not this will affect the overall project cost and quality.

Assignment Guidelines:

  • Using your course materials, the textbook, the library, and the academic quality resources, research the following:
    • The value of PERT estimating
    • The value of critical path method

How does one of the major sociological perspectives (i.e., conflict theory, functionalism, interactionism, feminist theory) help you to understand why terrorism occurs? In explaining your answer, connect at least three main elements of the theory to terrorism.

Answer:

According to Leon-Guerrero 2015 “ Functionalists examine how conflicts help maintain the social order, creating and reinforcing social, religious, or national boundaries. War creates social stability by letting everyone know what side they are on: the good guys versus the bad guys or us versus them. There are norms and boundaries in war: Individuals will know what their roles are, what they should believe in, how they should respond in case of an attack, and how they should interact with members of the other side. But unlike war, the social boundaries in terrorist activities are less certain. In some cases, the identity of terrorists and their goals may never be known.” I personally believe that the functionalist theory is one we can all relate too. The media shows us the good, the bad and the ugly. The media is also famous for showing us who’s on the bad side and all the harm that these groups commit. No one is clear to why people perform these terrorist acts on other people or countries.

1)How does one of the major sociological perspectives (i.e., conflict theory, functionalism, interactionism, feminist theory) help you to understand why terrorism occurs? In explaining your answer, connect at least three main elements of the theory to terrorism.

Answer:

I believe that the sociological perspective that best explains terrorism would relate to the macro level by way of the conflict perspective. This viewpoint looks at how society is held together by power and coercion and that social problems emerge due to power differences in various groups (Leon-Guerrero, 2014). Terrorism is defined as “the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government” (Leon-Guerrero, 2014). The conflict perspective views terrorism as an unnatural occurrence due to power struggles between groups that have been oppressed (Leon-Guerrero, 2014).

Nations have often used war for economic or political gain. In such instances, groups are displaced and hurt by war, which can lead to frustration over status and a feeling of submission. Such groups have pathways to become terrorists, such as those that emerged from the wars in the Middle East like Al Qaeda. After Iraq was invaded in 2003, terrorism spiked in the region by way of suicide bombers and attacks on foreign nationals (Stern & McBride, n.d.). Conflict theory would ascertain that these groups came about due to struggles for dominance and power between Iraq and the U.S.

Countries in the Middle East where many terrorist groups have sprouted have between 19-36% of the population below the poverty line compared to the U.S.’s 15% (CIA, n.d.). Likewise, cultural differences worsen conflict. Shia and Sunni, sects of Islam, dominate the Middle East with Shia sects making up majority of Iraq and Iran compared to the 1% found in the U.S. (Kelley, 2014; Mohamed, 2016). With these economic and cultural differences from the U.S., the Middle East also holds the title of highest unemployment rate in the world to increase tensions (Ataya, n.d.). All of these differences in statuses and power between the U.S. and Middle East coupled with the spike in terrorism supports the conflict perspective relating to terrorism.

1)How does one of the major sociological perspectives (i.e., conflict theory, functionalism, interactionism, feminist theory) help you to understand why terrorism occurs? In explaining your answer, connect at least three main elements of the theory to terrorism.

Answer:

The conflict theory helps me to better understand the reasons as to why terrorism is even taking place. According to Leon-Guerrero, ‘War and terrorism may be based on conflict over resources, territory, and power’ (Leon-Guerrero, 2015, p. 466). Through the eyes of conflict theorists, ‘war is not natural; it is a product of oppression and domination’ (Leon-Guerrero, 2015, p. 463). Through the processes of oppression and domination, one group (terrorists) tries to establish dominance over another in order to gain or accomplish a set goal. There are five main elements of terrorism. These elements of terrorism establishes and creates a stronger understanding for me as to why terrorism exists. One element of the theory of terrorism is that it is purposeful. This means that terrorism is not an act of randomness, but there are set goals whether it its political, economic or religious. Another element of the theory of terrorism is that it is not conducted by governed countries or other state actors, but it is carried out by subnational groups or non-state actors. Because of this, actions carried out by these groups are considered acts of terrorism instead of an act of war. Not only groups can carry out acts of terrorism, but an individual actor who carries a motive or sense of purpose can conduct acts of terrorism. A third element of the theory of terrorism is that it involves violence. Violence or the threat of violence is utilised by these groups or an individual actor in order to gain some kind of goal. Violence is a tool that can create a sense of oppression and domination. The previous three elements of the theory of terrorism helps me better understand terrorism as it is along with the conflict theory.

Developing as a group Therapist

Counseling and psychology are based on empirical research. Such research leads to best practices in the field. Group therapy has been in existence for decades, and, thus, there is a robust body of knowledge of what works, and theory that outlines why it works. When blended with an ethical and legal code, an outline of professional competencies is created. Professional associations typically outline the foundations for both professional culture and professional competencies. In the group therapy world, such associations include the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association, and the Association for Specialists in Group Work.

As a professional therapist, there is a possibility that you might be sued, charged with malpractice, or accused of an ethical code violation during your career. In these situations, one of the first questions that would be asked is, “Were you qualified to be doing what you were doing?” At that time, it would be your responsibility to outline how you were qualified to be practicing as a group therapist. Therefore, as you continue with your training, it is a good idea to keep your course syllabi, document any additional training (e.g., continuing education credits), and maintain membership in a professional association. These steps can help to prove you are a competent group therapist and protect you if your competency is called into question.

For this Discussion, consider the characteristics of a competent therapist. With these thoughts in mind, think about how you might use professional development to increase your own competence as a group therapist. Consider professional organizations that might assist you in this process.

With these thoughts in mind and using these headings:

Provide a brief explanation of what it means to be a competent group therapist.

Explain three ways you might use professional development to increase your competence as a group therapist.

Include any professional organizations you might be interested in joining, and explain why.
