Drafting, Revising, and Proofreading

Write a 2.5-3-page persuasive essay.

For this final assessment, you will continue to apply the stages of writing by creating a rough draft of your persuasive essay. Part of this is to complete more research in the Capella library. As you move through your educational journey, you will find that many epiphanies occur when learning new ideas and concepts about areas you thought you understood. You begin to question preconceived ideas and develop new awareness. You will then revise and proofread this draft. As you finish the final draft of your persuasive paper, consider how you see your voice as the voice of a hero for your discipline.

Job Announcement (Please make sure to read all instructions)

Your group will act as Judy Jakes, Human Resources Director at Biotech Health and Life Products (Biotech). You have received an email from the Vice-President with the specifications for a job announcement for the new leaders at the company.

You will create a job announcement that will be placed on Indeed.com by incorporating the memorandum details from each group member’s memo from week 1 along with what you have learned about leadership styles and characteristics.

The announcement will draw from the readings from week 1 and week 2 and the Biotech Company Profile. The group should seek to comply with the requirements of the Indeed website and readings from weeks 1 and 2. The job announcement should reflect the following:

  • Define the term ‘leader’ that fits Biotech;
  • Identify the characteristics the leader will possess to accomplish Biotech’s vision;
  • Identify the leadership style(s) that is encouraged by Biotech’s definition.

In a separate document, provide a two-page explanation of:

  • How and why the job announcement reflects the themes and specific readings from week 1 and week 2.
  • The reasoning for the choice of language. Be specific!
  • Make sure this document provides support for the reasoning and conclusions and contains in-text citations and associated references in a reference list.

O’Phylynn post

As I approach the end of my bachelor program I am more stressed than when I started. I say this because there are major projects to be completed along with projects for this course. While it is stressed inducing, I do somewhat feel a sense of relief that the end is near.

As I juggle my capstone course along with this class, work, and family, I find going for a walk, excerise( when I can), listening to music, cooking, or playing with my 20month old relieving. Depending on the day music can be over stimulating if I am mentally exhausted. On those days of over stimulation, I find a long warm shower relaxes those muscles and give a refreshed feeling.

Many may shut down and become really stressed and unable to focus or put words on paper. I am the opposite. I have found that having a deadline for a project gives me inspiration and motivation to have it completed. I find it strange but the stressed caused by knowing the deadline is fast approaching creates those creative thoughts and inspiration. Taking a warm shower (relaxes those muscles), laying in bed (further relaxation)with my tablet, seem to work for me rather than sitting in front of a computer.

When students have a deadline and are feeling stressed, what can they do to relax their mind and body to accomplish what they need to do? Which relaxation strategies would be most successful to achieve that outcome?

I find that taking a walk with my girls always relaxes me. I enjoy the time with my family and the fresh air and the sounds of nature. I usually work on my classes in the evening when I get home from work, but many times I will take that walk first. It clears my head from all of the stress that had built up throughout my work day. As far as deadlines are concerned, I find that time management and preparation is very important in order to be a successful college student. Relaxation techniques can only do so much, but making a plan or calendar and sticking by it is can help you avoid having to do too much at once and the stress that comes with procrastination. I’m not always perfect with it, but I do realize the importance of planning and time management and try to utilize it to the best of my ability in order to cut down on stress.

Economic Evaluation

This module taught you that economic evaluation has become a vital part of program evaluation over the past couple of decades as stakeholders have demanded economic efficiency in their agencies and programs. The textbook discusses three types of economic evaluation methods: the cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA), the cost-unity analysis (CUA), and the cost-benefit analysis (CBA).

Tasks:

In about 200 words, respond to the following:

  • Compare and contrast CEA, CUA, and CBA.
  • Find an article that discusses a program evaluation where at least one of these was used. Why do you think the evaluator chose this specific analysis? How were the findings from the analysis applied to the overall evaluation?
  • which of these do you think would be the best fit for the social agency or human services program? Why?

To compare and contrast an Egyptian pyramid to the Parthenon in Greece

A cultural theme such as class, floods, droughts, death and attitudes toward death, war rivalries, structures of power and politics, religious conflict, chaos and order, gender, revenge, etc. has to connect the two works you choose. For example, if you are interested in structures of power and politics you could compare and contrast an Egyptian pyramid to the Parthenon in Greece. In this example, the two cultures are Egyptian and Greek and the two architectural works are pyramids and the Parthenon. The theme that connects them is power.

You can consult a maximum of 5 sources for this essay. The sources that you use MUST BE CITED in your essay in MLA style. Use the sources to gain background information and context about the works you choose. For example, you will have to explain what their history is or whom or what is depicted in them. You will be making arguments in your essay and supporting them with evidence. These sources will provide that evidence. Sources must be books, database articles, and magazines. You have free access (in the library and online) to databases such as JSTOR where you can download articles. I strongly advise against using unreliable websites and blogs as sources.

The Greater Global Good

Why Buy Green?

Sometimes, advertising appeals are designed to make you either feel guilty for buying products that might “hurt” the planet or appeal to your senses of helping another person. Have you ever been motivated to buy a product to “save the planet?”

In your discussion, examine the influences of the following on consumers:

  • Sustainability
  • Social justice
  • Globalization
  • Consumer politics
  • Legislation issues

Answer the following questions in your discussion response:

  • What was 1 product or service that you bought to help the environment or another person or society?
  • What was the “turning point” for you in the decision to buy the product or service?
  • Did the marketer make you feel guilty or sorry for something? Did you buy the product because of social justice, global sustainability, or another reason? What was your reason?
  • Does your decision match your psychographic profile? Why or why not?

Which areas in which Jews find meaning in life (detailed in the textbook) seem most important to you?

TEXTBOOK: Smith The World’s Religions (50th anniversary edition) isbn #9780061660184

Notes from Professor:

* Judaism is the first of the western, or Abrahamic faiths, that we will study. These religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) are cousins who all claim to have inherited the covenant promises made to Abraham–a major character in the book of Genesis.

* Jews descend from Abraham’s son Isaac, while descendants of Abraham’s first son Ishmael later gave rise to the Islamic faith.

* Judaism is a religion and also a people group…as a people, Jews are descendants of the characters in the Bible, beginning with Abraham.

* The Jewish book of scripture is what is commonly known as the Old Testament to Christians. (Jews do not believe in or follow the New Testament)

* Judaism is often regarded as the first of the major monotheistic religious traditions.

* Be sure to read Chapter 7 of the textbook for details on the 8 areas where Jews find meaning in the world–I touch on some of these below.

* Meaning in Morality….Judaism is a religion of doing, as opposed to a religion of faith. God gave commandments to the people of Israel in the first five books of the Bible, and Judaism centers on trying to follow these commandments (having to do with eating, worship, dress, marriage, legal codes….basically all areas of life). While the 10 Commandments are quite well known, Jewish scholars find a total of 613 commandments in scripture.

* Meaning in Suffering….to be Jewish is to have experienced suffering throughout the history of the people. Be it slavery in Egypt, being conquered by other powers later in the Old Testament, living under Roman occupation at the time of Jesus, centuries of anti-Jewish hatred since the birth of Christianity, the Holocaust….the Jews have been targeted time and again by those who have tried to eradicate them as a people group.

* Meaning in Messianism…..Jews believe that the Old Testament predicts the coming of a Messiah one day. The word messiah is from the Hebrew for “anointed one.” (In Greek, Messiah is translated as Christos, or Christ in English). In ancient Israel, a new king would be anointed with oil. Jews still await the coming of the Messiah, who in their understanding will be a human being (and not divine), and someone who will bring world peace once they come to earth. The Old Testament does not speak of a “Second Coming,” so Jews expect the Messiah to accomplish his mission all at once.
It is important to note that Jesus was a Jew, as were most of his early followers. After his death, once most Jews continued to await the coming of the Messiah, the followers of Jesus developed what came to be Christianity. From a theological perspective, Christians believe Jesus was human as well as divine, which traditional Judaism does not believe possible. For Jews, monotheism means God is separate from created beings such as humans.

Resources: The five-step planning process covered in the course and the Sample Business Proposal example

Consider the following scenario:

As the manager of a busy call center for a health care organization, you note that the volume of calls has doubled over the past year. Using the Sample Proposal Template example, write a 700- to 1,050-word proposal.

Address the following in your proposal:

  • Explain why teams are essential in a health care organization.
  • Explain how other industries use teams.
    • How are they used in other industries, such as aviation, auto racing, or the military?
    • What best practices from other industries could be applied in the health care industry?

  • Explain organizational processes that will impact or influence the decision making process to improve efficiency and customer service.
  • Explain what resources or tools can be offered to your staff to help with efficiency and customer service using the additional funds available.

Cite 3 references to support your position. One reference may be the course textbook.

Format your proposal according to APA guidelines.

What is the purpose of your proposal? A proposal
should answer the following questions:
 What is the problem?
 What do you plan to do?
 What are the benefits of your plan?
 How will you implement your proposal?
 What are the next steps?
Tone matters – The tone
of your proposal should
convey professionalism,
positivity, and confidence.
Above all, your proposal
should be persuasive.

Discussion: Reflecting on Your Writing: Writing Strategies

Beginning an essay can often be the most difficult portion. However, when separated into small steps, this process becomes well defined and much more manageable. During these first steps, any writing that takes place is likely to be minimal and rough. This is acceptable, as you realize you are in the prewriting stage and that you have more writing and revising ahead of you.

For this Discussion, you will reflect on your own research strategy and how you have (or, perhaps, have not) used a strategy, such as note-taking, underlining, highlighting, etc., in the past to gather and assess the main ideas from a journal article. Based on what you have learned from the week’s Learning Resources, you will share your thoughts and experiences on use of research in your own writing practice.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the Learning Resources on arguments and critical reading, and the infographic on Analysis.
  • Reflect on your research process in relation to understanding an author’s argument or main idea.
  • You may reflect on past or current examples of your research process, including this Assignment.

By Day 3

Post a 1- to 2-paragraph reflection on your research process, describing components that you currently use, as well as any components that you could use more effectively. (Note: You may choose to reflect specifically on your approach to this Discussion assignment in relation to your writing process.)
