Gladwell Grocery Stores Case Scenario

Gladwell Grocery Stores has ten (10) stores in upstate New York. They have approximately 400 – 440 employees. Most of the employees are part time, with approximately 45% of them full time. The
operations manager, Tom Bell, also acts as the HR manager and travels to each location each week to take care of recruiting, scheduling, hiring, and answering questions for the employees as needed. He also takes care of payroll using Excel spreadsheets and
has computer software to print payroll checks.

Mr. Bell approaches you, an
independent HR consultant and owner of your own consulting firm,
for a proposal. He would like to greatly reduce his travel to each location each week, due to the increase in gasoline costs. He is curious to know if there is anything you can suggest in
helping him complete his HR tasks more efficiently and in a cost-effective manner. He hopes there is some way he can do part of his HR tasks from his office instead of traveling to each location every week.

english journal

Purpose: To cultivate the habit of writing. I’d like you to explore your own mind, to reflect as a writer, thinker and student and make connections about what you are learning and pondering in your own life.

Prompt: Once a week, make time to sit down and write for approximately 15-20 minutes (writing efficiency and thinking, of course, varies greatly). You can consider this to be a diary, a freewrite, a rant, a letter to me, a brain drain, a crafted personal narrative, or the terrible drudgery of busy work (I recommend any perspective except the last). Use this time to dig deep and use the medium of writing to explore self, world, conflict and/or environment.

Source: There will be an “assigned” prompt each week; sometimes that will come from the folder on Blackboard that contains 30+ prompts where I encourage you to respond in writing to the photograph, the quote, OR one of the stated prompts – you should follow your inspiration, not try to answer every question. Sometimes I will ask an impromptu question that might connect to current events in or out of class to encourage you to respond to a philosophical concept. You may also diverge from this task and truly journal by writing what is on your mind – you do not need to stick to the prompt every week.

Length: around 500 words (quality over quantity)

Health & Medical Question

Consider the following scenario:

Terry is a senior histology lab technician at a large urban hospital. He is responsible for overseeing a team of six junior technicians to process samples for testing. Recently, the hospital has introduced a new process whereby the senior histology lab technician must visually accept and approve the findings of the junior technicians in order for samples to be cleared and entered into the electronic health record for disease diagnosis. Terry has been able to meet this new need for the past few months. However, as more cases are entering the histology lab, cases have started to become backlogged. Additionally, the histology lab hours are restricted to business hours; this has severely impacted the processing of histology samples. Terry is worried that the approval process is not efficient and that perhaps a second senior histology lab technician should be hired to meet around-the-clock demand.

As a current or future health care administrator, how might you address the productivity lag in the histology lab in the scenario?

For this Assignment, review Case 2, “Noninvasive Cardiovascular Laboratory” in Chapter 8 of the text, Managing Health Services Organizations and Systems. Reflect on how you, as a current or future health care administrator, might be required to identify opportunities to improve productivity in an HSO. What types of information might you need to gather? How might you identify whether a process improvement opportunity exists? Then, review the Week 3 Case Questions document in this week’s Learning Resources to complete the Assignment.

The Assignment (3–5 pages):

  • Complete the case questions presented.
  • Create a fish bone diagram and a flow diagram that represent an analysis of the processes for improvement and implementation approaches to support your answers to the case questions.
  • Be sure to support your answers with support from the literature.

MUST BE 100% AUTHENTIC
