Activity Instructions

For this assignment, complete the Preliminary Capstone Prospectus as described in the MBA Capstone Project Guidelines document given in the resources. Examples of this proposal are located in Appendices A and B of this document. Please use the Appendix A as a template for this assignment. Be sure to review the Preliminary Capstone Proposal – Individual Scoring Guide to self-assess your paper prior to submission. Submit your proposal as a Word document to this assignment.

Remember to consider the scalability of your project. For example, you may wish to write about Barnes & Noble, but that would require hundreds of pages. However, you could choose to focus on how Barnes & Noble has managed to survive the Internet age when Borders crumbled. Use this opportunity to gain valuable feedback from your peers and instructor on focusing your project. Keep in mind that your capstone project must result in evidence-based recommendations, takeaways, or next steps.

Note: Successful completion of an acceptable proposal will facilitate a smooth transition into your capstone course and help you make timely progress toward the completion of your degree. In other words, the better you define your project now, the easier it will be to continue making progress on your project.

In fact, you must earn at least a 70 out of 100 on the u05a2 assignment, Final Capstone Proposal – Individual, to pass this course. If you do not earn at least 70 on that assignment, your instructor will force your course grade to “F” and you will have to retake this course in order to prepare an effective capstone proposal. Thus, taking time on this assignment is paramount. In addition, fear not, the u04d2 discussion, Capstone Project Scope Statement, will help you further refine the scope, the area that poses the biggest challenge for some learners.

Be sure to contact your instructor with any questions or challenges you have about completing your proposal.

Below is a brief description of the business I choose to write on.

For my MBA Capstone Project, I have chosen to research The Coca-Cola Company. The Coca-Cola Company is the number one beverage company and is sold globally in multiple countries.

A description of your project and expected outcome (recommendations, business plan with next steps, and so on).

My project will explore how Coca-Cola utilizes social media to impact marketing, global economics and their financial profitability.

Your reason for choosing this project. For example, what problem exists within the organization that you feel needs to be solved, or what question do you have about the organization that you want to investigate?

The main reason I chose this company is because I am a loyal customer. In addition, with social media impacting today’s generation, it will be interesting to research how a global organization can leverage social media to increase a competitive advantage.

Journal with MLA formate

  • Read H. G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds, chapters 16 – End
    • These pages cover the second half of the book. Use the active reading strategies we covered in the previous module to ruminate and annotate the important scenes and parts of the story as you read. Makes notes and references will help you return to those scenes and sections as you write about them and discuss them over the coming days and weeks.
  • Watch video biography of H. G. Wells (embedded below)
    • This half-hour BBC program introduces you to the life and mind of H. G. Wells. Several authors and historians discuss Wells’ writing including The War of the Worlds. Much of Wells’ personal life and experiences played a keen role in the stories he created. The Victorian era, as well as the changing social and political landscape, also had a great influence on him and his writing. Pay close attention and take notes about his influences. What connections can you make to specifics about The War of the Worlds? You will be reflecting and writing about these ideas in your journal in this module.
  • Complete Response Journal #5 (RJ5)
    • This response journal is a formal, essay-style written response to this week’s reading. A prompt is provided.

The War of the Worlds is set in Victorian London at the end of the nineteenth century. The belief system during the Victorian era was that good and evil, moral right and wrong, were very clearly defined. However, at the time this book was published (1897) that belief system was being challenged by new social norms.

    • How do you feel that Wells’ story is a warning about the sudden changes in social belief systems? Consider and write about what roles certain characters play in that warning—the curate, the artillery man, the narrator.
    • Does this warning have any relevance today? If so, how?
    • What observations/notes regarding the Wells’ biography video apply to the ideas you write about in this response?

    Guidelines for Response Journals:

Disaster and Communicable Disease Preparedness

Disaster and Communicable Disease Preparedness

Preparing for disasters, terrorist threats, or communicable disease outbreaks is an important part of public health nursing. Visit the websites http://www.ready.gov and http://www.ready.gov/pandemic. Review the steps for being prepared for a disaster or pandemic.

  • Choose a natural or man-made disaster that could impact your community and discuss how a CHN can help the community to prepare or respond to this disaster.
  • Choose a potential infectious disease outbreak and discuss how a CHN can help to prevent or respond to an outbreak.
  • How well is your community prepared for a potential outbreak or disaster?

Federal Emergency Management Agency. (2016). Pandemic. Retrieved from http://www.ready.gov/pandemic

Disasters can occur suddenly and without warning; usually with no way to prevent them. However, communities can prepare for them. It is important that communities are assisted in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from a disaster. The CHN advocates for a safe environment and may have an active role in each phase of disaster management. Examine the steps for preparedness and determine what you consider priorities. Also, compare these steps to your own community’s preparedness. It will be interesting to see how prepared you are!
