Caring for Patients Utilizing Complementary and Alternative Therapies

Complementary and alternative therapies are often used in
combination with traditional medical practices to provide enhanced
treatment. This is known as Integrative Medicine. Other times these
therapies are used alone in place of traditional medicine. Choose a
complementary or alternative therapy that interests you and research how
it is used alone or in combination with traditional medicine.

Write a 1-2 page paper (not including title page and reference page) that describes following:

  1. Describe the complementary/alternative therapy and how it is used in practice.
  2. Discuss your personal and professional opinion about this therapy
and how it will influence your care for a client using this therapy.

You should include a minimum of 3 references. Include a title page, in-text citations, and a reference page in APA format.

Developing Organizational Policies and Practices

Developing Organizational Policies and Practices

Competing needs arise within any organization as employees seek to meet their targets and leaders seek to meet company goals. As a leader, successful management of these goals requires establishing priorities and allocating resources accordingly.

Within a healthcare setting, the needs of the workforce, resources, and patients are often in conflict. Mandatory overtime, implementation of staffing ratios, use of unlicensed assisting personnel, and employer reductions of education benefits are examples of practices that might lead to conflicting needs in practice.

Leaders can contribute to both the problem and the solution through policies, action, and inaction. In this Assignment, you will further develop the white paper you began work on in Module 1 by addressing competing needs within your organization.

To Prepare:

  • Review the national healthcare issue/stressor you examined in your Assignment for Module 1, and review the analysis of the healthcare issue/stressor you selected.
  • Identify and review two evidence-based scholarly resources that focus on proposed policies/practices to apply to your selected healthcare issue/stressor.
  • Reflect on the feedback you received from your colleagues on your Discussion post regarding competing needs.

The Assignment (4-5 pages):

Developing Organizational Policies and Practices

Add a section to the paper you submitted in Module 1. The new section should address the following:

  • Identify and describe at least two competing needs impacting your selected healthcare issue/stressor.
  • Describe a relevant policy or practice in your organization that may influence your selected healthcare issue/stressor.
  • Critique the policy for ethical considerations, and explain the policy’s strengths and challenges in promoting ethics.
  • Recommend one or more policy or practice changes designed to balance the competing needs of resources, workers, and patients, while addressing any ethical shortcomings of the existing policies. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Cite evidence that informs the healthcare issue/stressor and/or the policies, and provide two scholarly resources in support of your policy or practice recommendations.
  • Due to the nature of this assignment, your instructor may require more than 7 days to provide you with quality feedback.

blog writing

Read the power point first, then based on the ppts, locate a recent news article (no more than six months old please) that is relevant to the subjects/concepts introduced in that module/chapter and prepare a short analysis/summary of the news article. The analysis/summary should be posted onto your blog site on Canvas before the due date. Each blog entry should consist of a link to the article you have found and your analysis as to why and how it is related to the topic introduced in that module (one paragraph with 150-200 words). You are encouraged to comment on other students’ blogs and also others’ comments on your blogs. Please do not use sources such as newpaper columns, commentaries, blogs, case studies, white papers, research reports and the like as your chosen news articles. According to Merriam-Webster, news is a report of recent events.

4 Review Questions for an article

Please Read the article then answer the 4 questions below:

For question #1 it has special format to answer the question and I attached an example how to answer question #1

Jonathan Swift’s Modest
Proposal (251-258)
was included in our text. This proposal is a classic, and once
you have read it, I am sure you will see why it has held its appeal.
Granted, Swift’s proposal is satire — and I would caution you against
using satire — but we can identify the components of a problem/solution essay.

After
having read/studied the essay, please answer the following questions/prompts:

1.
Write a precis over the essay.(4 sentences) (Example of precis is attached)

2.
What problem(s) Swift is addressing.

3.
While he offers a satirical solution (you should have listed this/these
in your précis), he eventually suggests some logical approaches to the problem
— list the logical solutions Swift believes his government is ignoring.

4.
List several (at least 4) advantages to his plan.

can you write this?

Assignment Instructions

Assignment 2: The Annotated Bibliography

Objective: Assess sources for your research paper (for credibility, reliability and relevance) and list references in proper APA format

Assignment Instructions: The Research Project/Paper for this class is divided into three major Assignments, 1) annotated bibliography, 2) abstract, and 3) final paper. The first part is the annotated bibliography. An annotation* (see note on annotations vs. abstracts below) is a is a summary and/or evaluation, and your annotated bibliography will include a summary and/or evaluation of each of the sources (or references) you will use for your paper.

Your paper must include a minimum of three sources and these are to be included in this assignment, i.e. you are to write an annotation for each source. However you must use five or more sources in your final paper.

The reason the annotated bibliography is included as part of the research paper is because writing an annotated bibliography is important in that it provides excellent preparation for the final paper. One of the issues regarding any type of research, especially in the biosciences, medical, health/nutrition and exercise/fitness fields, is the credibility of the sources used, particularly those obtained from various websites. By forcing you to carefully evaluate each of your potential sources, the annotated bibliography helps you determine if in fact the source you chose is credible and also helps you determine how relevant it is to your topic and understand the topic better which will help you write your paper.

For this project, your annotated bibliography will include: 1) a complete citation for each source, 2) a summary of each source, 3) an assessment/evaluation of each source, and 4) a critique of each source. Three sources are required.

  1. Citation:

Written in APA format. For more help with formatting, see APA handout.

  1. Summary:

What is purpose of the source, review article, original research? What topics are covered? This is generally 1 -3 sentences that summarize the author’s main point. For more help, see this link on paraphrasing sources.

  1. Assessment:

After summarizing the article (or research paper or book) it is necessary to evaluate it and also where you found it – its source (e.g. journal, website, etc). Briefly answer the following questions:

What is the format or type of source. How reliable is the information in the article and how credible is the source and the author(s)? Is this article biased or objective?

For more help, see this handout on evaluating resources.

  1. Critique:

Once you’ve summarized and assessed a source, you need to ask how it fits into your research. Why is this source relevant to your research paper and how can you use this source in your research project? What are the strengths and weaknesses? It is biased in any way? Compare the source with other sources in your bibliography.

*Annotations vs. Abstracts

Annotations in an annotated bibliography perform three functions: specify the source, evaluate the source, and critique the source. The annotation is a concise description of a particular source. It enables the researcher to establish the relevance of a specific journal article, book, research report, or government document, etc. Abstracts, on the other hand, are descriptive summaries that precede scholarly journal articles or can be found standing alone in periodical databases and are more detailed in this respect. Later in the course, Assignment 3 will specifically cover the abstract.

Adulthood Discussion

The subjects of retirement and health insurance are much in the news these days. Discuss your plans for retirement with a special emphasis on income after retirement and health insurance. After a lifetime of paying Social Security and Medicare taxes in every payroll check, your grandparents and parents are counting on having Social Security and Medicare to help with the inevitable loss of income occuring at retirement.

Things may be different for your generation. Many are discussing privatizing Social Security and doing away with Medicare. Even Republican voters in the State of Florida are opposed to this plan. Read the report on a survey of Republican Primary Voters who objected 2:1 to plans to change these benefits (among Hispanic voters, opposition was even stronger with 4:1 voters opposing changes). Given what you know of the volatilty of the stock markets that are up one day and down drastically another, would you risk your retirement to the stock market? Would you risk your health on having the ability to pay for private health insurance when you retire?

Despite what you’ve heard, Social Security and Medicare can be saved. The generation entering the workforce today (The Millenials) are an even larger generation than the retiring Baby Boomer generation. As long as as many or more are paying into the system than those who are retiring, the programs can and should be saved. You never know how your life will turn out and it is essential to have a basic retirement cushion to live on. Moreover, it is your money after all. You have paid into both Social Security and Medicare with every paycheck since you started working.

What can you do now to help save Social Security and Medicare? Some believe it is essential to send politicians to Washington and Tallahassee who will protect those benefits. But it is not enough to save these benefits. What can you do to guarantee a comfortable retirement and good medical care in your old age?

Remember the criteria for the discussions:

You will prepare a will scripted video blog, try to think of real instances where you have been augmented by artificial intelligence. In your video blog you will consider the questions:

Given your research into Steve Wozniak and your understanding of their perspective of technology – What would Steve Wozniak think about “Her”?

Would he think this is an inevitable future or Would they dismiss it as science fiction?

What interface systems today are leading us in the direction of “Her”?

Do you think it is a desirable future for the human technology interface?

What are the pro’s and con’s of the “Her” future?

While you are watching “Her” note the use of digital art in public spaces as part of the setting for the ‘not to distant future’?

Is our reality becoming ‘hyper-reality’ – note the video provided this week on hyper augmented reality, can you cite instances of that in your life?
