Interview Analysis

Based on your interview notes from this week’s discussion activity, analyze the epidemiological data surrounding the health issue that your agency addresses. Compare the epidemiological data with the information provided by the agency director/representative by addressing the following points:

• How do the epidemiological data and the information provided by the agency director/representative differ?  How are they similar?
• Based on the epidemiological information collected, what is the true effect that the agency is having on your community?
• Appraise the various methods that should be employed to help the agency improve its effectiveness.
• Analyze the 10 Essential Services of Public Health and how they are (or are not) wrapped into the service provided by this agency.

Epidemiological data consists of statistical information on your population obtained through primary sources, which are typically research studies or government survey information (such as those provided by the CDC or health department).  Utilize the Ashford University Library and/or government websites to locate statistics that relate to your organization.  For example, if you interviewed someone from an organization that focused on childhood obesity, you would locate research studies that provided statistical results for your county, region, or state to illustrate what was actually occurring in your area regarding childhood obesity.  Once you have this data, compare it with the information provided by the agency director or representative that you interviewed.  In some cases, you may only be able to find actual state statistics, but your organization may have provided only local data.  This is okay; just make sure you note this in your paper and through critical thinking, infer how this might influence the effectiveness of your organization’s work.  

Your paper should be three to four pages in length, excluding the title and reference pages, and formatted according to APA style guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Visit the Ashford University Library to locate a minimum of two scholarly sources that support your main ideas. Also, use surveillance information that was discussed as part of the epidemiology process.

For this portfolio project option, choose a nonprofit organization in your community (IN CHICAGO, IL) to prepare a presentation to the Board of the Directors for the implementation of a fundraising program in this organization. Your presentation should include the following sections:

1. Overview: An overview of the fundraising activities for this organization and a justification of each activity. (Four to five slides)
2. Plan: A plan that includes SMART goals, objectives, a timeline, and who is responsible for each of the goals/objectives. (Two to three slides)
3. Summary: A summary with a suggestion of one grant that the organization could apply for that includes a summary of the criteria the organization must meet in order to qualify for the grant. (One-to-two slides)

Your presentation should adhere to the following standards:

• Be eight to-ten slides length in length, not including the title or reference slides. Note the page requirements for each section.
• Include detailed notes or narration (50-100 words per notes page).
• Follow the APA FORMAT

Imagine that you are working as a counselor in an elementary school.
A teacher has come to you, concerned that a student in her class might
have been sexually abused. She explains that she became concerned when
two of her 5-year old male students did not come out of the restroom
after she called to them several times from the door. When she went in
to check on them, she saw the boys facing each other, with Kyle’s pants
around his ankles. Brandon was touching Kyle’s penis and both boys
were laughing. In addition to her concern about abuse, the teacher is
wondering if the boys could be gay.

• As the counselor, explain to the boys’ teacher
  whether their behavior is indicative of sexual abuse. Remember to
  reflect on the research you have learned about, and give details
  to demonstrate why you might come to that conclusion.
• How would you respond to the teacher’s question about the boys’ sexual orientation, based on research?
• What recommendations should you, as the
  counselor, give to the teacher?  Keep in mind research pertaining
  to the promotion of healthy sexual development by parents and
  schools.

 Your response should be at least 3 pages long, not counting the cover page and reference page.

Overview

Part 2 asks you to formalize your
Project 1 assignment by writing a 1,000 – 1,200-word Rogerian Argument.
This essay introduces a controversial issue, identifies two stakeholders
engaged in the issue who hold different stances on the issue,
recognizes common ground between the two different stakeholders,
exercises empathy in understanding the stakeholders’ positions, and
determines a mutually beneficial compromise based on this common ground
that may work towards resolving the issue.

• identify and develop organizational strategies that contribute to the effective delivery of information and presentation
• demonstrate

• synthesize disparate or conflicting thoughts when evaluating questions/problems to form cohesive and collaborative solutions
• construct an introduction and solid thesis that is supported by credible and convincing evidence
• adjust tone and language to present fair representations of each stakeholder’s narrative
• write a conclusion that defends rationale for presented solutions

Description (and Step by Step)

Part 2 should be a fully-developed 1,000 – 1,200-word Rogerian Argument. This essay draft should include the following steps:

1. An
   introduction that clearly identifies both stakeholders, the
   controversial issue, and thesis that presents the point of contention
   between the stakeholders and explains a proposed compromise
2. Fair
   representation of the major stakeholders’ points and evidence that
   demonstrate your understanding of the value and circumstance of each
   position (empathy)
3. A discussion of what the two stakeholders have in common (common ground)
4. A single, feasible, and objective resolution that would benefit both stakeholders and potentially work to resolve the issue
5. A
   defense of why the resolution is workable for both stakeholders and in
   which contexts the compromise will work and satisfy each stakeholder
6. A conclusion that highlights the main points and considers forward-thinking ideas for research/action
7. A Works Cited page

At least five sources are required
for this Intermediate Draft. Your five sources should include one
primary source for each of the two stakeholders (such as information
from their websites), at least one credible/scholarly source for each of
the two stakeholders (such as scholarly articles that support their
arguments or stances), and at least one credible, scholarly source that
supports the validity of your proposed compromise. Your instructor will
outline the preferred format guidelines for your essay.

Helpful Hints

The compromise portion of this Part 2
is often the most difficult. To arrive at a strong compromise or
solution, consider the stated goals and concerns of both stakeholders,
the current or past solutions they have attempted, and the feasibility
of your solution’s implementation.

Strong compromises will be concrete
and consider both stakeholder’s main goals and concerns. In other words,
a single, empathetic solution will be presented that is realistic for
both parties
