Religion Ques

broadcast “Religion and the Red, White and Blue 08 :

http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/12072007/profile…

Respond to question-sets A & B and at least two other question-sets. PLEASE NOTE: For this module, you do not need to answer every question in a question-set; just be sure to give a substantial response to each question-set as a whole. (Minimum 250 words for original response as a whole.)

A) Respond to the broadcast “Religion and the Red, White and Blue 08.” What issues were discussed? Do you agree or disagree with the comments of Bill Moyers’ two guests, Melissa Rogers and Kathleen Hall Jamieson? Explain. Discuss the clips of Huckabee, Romney, and Kennedy in this context. In your opinion, what questions about a candidate’s religious views are appropriate to ask?

B) The Gaustad text chronicles an historical shift in the relationship of American religious life to the judicial court system in which, “American society was groping for some clear path that would yield a viable relationship between religion and public life.” Summarize this shift in relationship: What was it? When did it happen? What were the causes of this shift? In your assessment, did the completion of this shift occur in the past, or is the shift continuing to take place? Explain.

C) Our text describes the group known as Jehovah’s Witnesses as “having done more than any other to enlarge the understanding of what free exercise of conscience really means,” with regard to the Supreme Court’s determination of constitutional protection of religious freedom. What specific issues were introduced to the courts by this group? What was the general early reaction by the Supreme Court to these issues and what reasoning did it employ? What reasoning did the Court employ in its later decision regarding these issues?

D) The textbook discusses the ways in which Orthodox Jews and Seventh Day Adventists were instrumental in bringing to the Supreme Court issues related to historical “blue laws” restricting Sunday business activities and related matters. What principles determined the Court’s decision on this issue? Are there laws still in place within American society that continue to privilege the beliefs/customs of certain religious groups over others with regard to activities on Sundays or holidays?

E) What reasoning and principles were involved in the Supreme Court’s opinion regarding the issue of “conscientious objection” to compulsory military service? What relevance, if any, does the Supreme Court’s opinion regarding “conscientious objector status” have in contemporary times?

F) According to the Gaustad text, the decision by many Americans to withdraw their children from public schools due to religiously-based concerns is “One of the most visible results of the Supreme Court’s decisions of the last forty years.” What are some of the controversies related to this issue?

G) Traditional practices of the Native American Church involving peyote have constituted a pivot-point for controversy over the exercise of religious freedom. What are the issues involved in this controversy? How old is this controversy in the annals of American history? Where does this issue stand today? What seems to be at stake? Is the reasoning involved in these debates fundamentally different from, or similar to, the reasoning involved in other controversies covered in this chapter? Explain.

Purpose: to pick a topic that could be used for a future argumentative paper and then complete an annotated bibliography for this topic with at least 6 credible sources that could be used for this topic. An annotated bibliography consists of:

  • a proper MLA citation for each source that has the required hanging indent and is double-spaced only (watch the extra spacing).
  • With each source, you are to include about 150 words that explain the following:
    • what type of source it is and where it was originally published.
    • a summary of the sources’ key points and findings.
    • an evaluation of how relevant and useful this source would be.
  • Make sure that you use MLA format for the heading and if you want to include page numbers. Center the title Annotated Bibliography above the text and make sure your entries are in alphabetical order.

To help with this assignment, there will be an instructional video also in this week and I will attach example annotated bibliographies. If you have any questions, let me know.

Tone/Audience: keep the tone academic and analytical. Your stance on the topic should not appear here. The only evaluation you’re doing here is how relevant the source is. Your audience is fellow researchers of your topic. Standard English rules apply.

Accounting and Auditing

Read Columbia University’s study: “An Evaluation of the Current State and Future of XBRL and Interactive Data for Investors and Analysts (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..”

The study was based on the authors’ interviews with analysts and investors to explore whether or not “XBRL has delivered on its promise to them,” and describes several issues that identify reasons why financial and accounting executives are unhappy with the XBRL mandate.

In a three- to four-paged paper (not including the title and reference pages), discuss Harris and Mossfield’s major findings:

  • Analysts’ and investors’ dissatisfaction with high tagging-error rates in the filings,
  • excessive use of tagging extensions,
  • the need for more detailed tagged data, lack of audit assurance of tagged data,
  • the lack of tools to receive the data and then integrate it into companies’ workflow.

Wk 7- The Fountainhead

you will watch the video

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand

and then you will do some steps :

Please write a 2 page paper applying ethical egoism to The Fountainhead. Ayn is one of the most misunderstood philosophers of the 21st century. You may still disagree with her when you are done but you should at least know her principles. Use specific examples and apply specific principles to them. An example of a good paper would be a concise introduction which explains what ethical egoism is (or Objectivism as Ayn named it) and conclusion which can include your own opinion. In the body of the essay, perhaps write five paragraphs of analysis which specify one of Ayn’s principles and an example from the movie/book which exemplifies this principle. You can do more or less than five but try to give a few examples and some good analysis

Jounal Entry #3

For Week 10, review your investment for the last time. You must:
1.Record the current price of the stock for each company you selected in Week 3’s Stock Journal. You may use any price during this week (e.g., day one price, the opening, the low, the high, the close, or any price you find when you check it during the day). Using a MS Excel spreadsheet or MS Word document, put your Week 8 and Week 10 stock prices side-by-side, to show the comparison.
2.Determine the total value of your investment.
3.Provide your final opinion / assessment of your investments. Did you make money or lose money? Discuss your results and, based on hindsight, describe what you would do differently.
4.Discuss what you learned from this assignment. Do you believe this assignment will help you in the future in any way?
Attached is a copy of Week 8 Journal Entry.

Primary Source Essay – 6 – 8 pages, English homework help

As far as organization, there is no set structure for this essay because your topics and primary sources will vary tremendously; therefore, it is up to you to come up with the structure. Your essay needs to focus on a singular topic and how these three, or more, primary sources help us understand your topic more. Providing an in-depth analysis of these three sources will help the reader understand your topic and where you’re going with it.

Remember that you’re trying to prove to your audience that this topic should be of concern to them and these three primary sources should demonstrate why! If you have any questions, please don’t be afraid to email me.

Below you will find the PSE assignment sheet as well as rubric. Additionally, I have included some links that will help you with writing this essay. The links provide opportunities for you to understand what a primary source is and what it is not. The “6 C’s worksheet” may help you with understanding your primary sources, so use it if it helps.
