The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks Discussion

Discussion Questions for the movie “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.” After viewing the video, answer the following questions in complete sentences ( find the movie online OR the book summary)

1. How has medical science been advanced by the study of Henrietta Lacks’ cells? Give 2 examples.

2. What factors (race, class, gender, “the times”) do you think were responsible for Henrietta’s cells being taken from her without her permission? What factors do you think were responsible for her family being kept in the dark about the many ways in which the study of her cells were contributing to medical science? How might this affect future clinical research studies?

3. Was it “unethical” for researchers to take (and profit from) Henrietta’s cells without her permission? Why? Why not? (Define “ethical” and “unethical”.)

4. What changes in research on human subjects resulted, directly and indirectly, from the Lacks case?

Just a quick discussion answer please answer all the questions clear cut answer nothing too lengthy or too short

Art sometimes provokes controversy. Part of the purpose of art is to present controversial, debatable subjects. On occasion, artists treat subject matter in ways that spark public outcry. Censorship of art occurs when exhibitions are closed because of controversial content. A censorship controversy was initiated in the U.S. in 1999 when Mayor Rudy Giuliani attempted to close the “Sensations” exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum of Art for offensive content.

Giuliani objected to several works in the exhibit, including Chris Ofili’s mixed media work The Holy Virgin Mary in which elephant dung was used as a material. Ofili also surrounded the picture of Mary with pornographic images. You can answer the following question with or without doing further research about the “Sensations” exhibit. If standards were to be applied to subject matter for art viewed in public spaces funded by taxpayers, what would they be? If standards are not required, why not?

Conduct an Internet search Case Study

No directly quoted material may be used in this project paper.

Resources should be summarized or paraphrased with appropriate in-text and Resource page citations.

In this assignment, you will apply the theories you have studied to a
particular crime. Conduct an Internet search and find an article about a
crime in which you are interested. Crime stories are in the news every
day, so this should be easy to accomplish.

Then, analyze three theories from chapters 22-41 in
terms of how useful they are in explaining the crime that you selected.
You may also choose to use other theories based on your own cited
research.

For instance, if you chose a violent crime, such as rape, you
would analyze how useful each of three theories (one from each category)
is in explaining why the offender in the case you chose committed the
crime.

Your paper should have the following sections:

Introduction (Introduce the topic and mission of the paper to your reader.)

The Crime (Describe the characteristics of the criminal
incident you found, then describe what we know about this type of crime
more generally. . . prevalence, trends, costs, etc.)

Theory I (Describe the main features of the chosen theory, then
discuss how useful a specific theory from this category is in
explaining the crime.)

Theory II (Describe the main features of the chosen theory,
then discuss how useful a specific theory from this category is in
explaining the crime.)

Theory III (Describe the main features of the chosen theory,
then discuss how useful a specific theory from this category is in
explaining the crime.)

Conclusion (Explain, in your view, which of the three theories is most useful in
explaining the criminal incident you chose. Then, discuss the
implications of this theory for criminal justice policy in general. What
should the criminal justice system do to try to address the kind of crime that you chose in light of the explanation for the crime that you found to be most useful?)

The sources you use for this assignment should include the article on the crime you chose, the textbook, and two
peer-reviewed journal articles, either from the article you researched
in Project One (if applicable) or other articles you identify to connect
theory to crime
. Significant amounts of information from
peer-reviewed journal articles and your textbook should be incorporated
into your paper.

In addition to presenting information from your sources, do
some significant critical thinking in applying the theoretical material
we have covered to the real case that you select.
