What is a Signature Assignment?

A signature assignment is designed to align with specific program student learning outcome(s) for a program. Program Student Learning Outcomes are broad statements that describe what students should know and be able to do upon completion of their degree. The signature assignments are graded with an automated rubric that allows the University to collect data that can be aggregated across a location or college/school and used for program improvements.

Your client, Cascade Company, is planning to invest some of its excess cash in 5-year revenue bonds issued by the county and in the stock of one of its suppliers, Teton Co. Teton’s shares trade on the over-the-counter market. The company would like you to conduct some research on the accounting for these investments.

Communication in Criminal Justice Roles

A police officer at the scene of an accident.
A parole officer meeting with an ex-offender.
A corrections officer in a prison.

All of the criminal justice professionals above use communication
skills, both written and verbal. Many of them also will likely use
presentation skills. Mastering various ways in which to communicate is
essential to most jobs, including many positions within the field of
criminal justice.

For this Discussion, select a role within the criminal justice field
that you may already have or one in which you might be interested in
the future. Review the media, “The Art of Effective Communication” to
identify ways in which communication can be used. Then consider how
communication can be used in the role you selected and why
communication is used in those ways. Also, consider whether the
communications you described are effective in the job specified or not.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a brief description of the criminal
justice role you selected and describe two ways in which communication
is used in that role. Then explain why communication is used in those
ways, including any goals that are intended to be met by the
communication. Finally, explain whether the communications you
described are effective in the job specified or not. Be specific and

Situation

You work for a manufacturing company in Halifax that sells its products to retail stores, who then sell the products to consumers. The company purchases raw materials used in the manufacturing process from various suppliers. The suppliers are also companies located in Halifax.

Your company has received an order from a large retail store. This order would result in $25,500 in profits for your company. In order to manufacture the products, your company has signed a contract to purchase raw materials from one of your suppliers. The raw materials were to be supplied by a specific date. As a result, your company could not manufacture the products for the retailer and it lost the order to another manufacturer.

The management of your company are not happy about losing the order. They are considering bringing a lawsuit against the supplier for breach of contract. However, they are not sure if this is the appropriate court to use. They are also not familiar with how it operates. Therefore, management have asked you to do some research about the Small Claims Court and prepare a report for them. Scenario

Your boss, the CEO of Mountain Air Recreation, Inc., has invited you to her office to tell you that the Board is considering the launch of a new product offering: luxury resort skiing. This offering will complement their existing line of high-adventure outdoor recreational sport offerings, which include jungle safaris, scuba diving, wilderness hiking, and helicopter skiing. The marketing team has done a great deal of research on the target audience and believes the company will make a handsome profit on the new resort. The CEO wonders, however, if the introduction of a luxury sport activity will affect their guests’ perceptions of the company, which is known for its rugged outdoor activities. She also wonders if downhill skiing —and the accompanying requirement to manage mountain forest growth—will damage the company’s reputation as a responsible steward of the environment. She is convinced that if the company moves forward with this project, it will be vital to integrate the marketing effort with a communications campaign designed to enhance the image of the company as one that not only sells high-end adventure but cares deeply about the environment and enjoying it responsibly.

The CEO provides you with demographic and psychographic data about the company’s guests and asks you to provide an analysis of the data to inform her recommendations to the Board about the long-term wisdom of entering the high-end ski resort market. The purpose of OSHA is to provide, as far as possible, safe and healthful working conditions for U.S. workers. Under the law, both employees and employers have a role and responsibility. For this discussion, you will discuss the rights and responsibilities of the employee under OSHA.

In your initial post, take on the role you have been assigned to and examine how OSHA applies to you.
