Population and Environment writing paper

the question of whether population growth poses a threat or a potential opportunity is not new. Not long after Thomas Robert Malthus made his prediction that more people would doom us to “gigantic inevitable famine,” an opposing camp of population “boomsters” emerged, highlighting the potential benefits of reproduction. More people, they argued, meant more labor, technological innovation, and economic growth. Now, scientists have proposed that we have entered a new era – the Anthropocene. They have named it as such because this era is defined by how humans have affected the Earth. In this writing assignment, you will explore the ways in which human activities have affected the environment. Drawing from the article (Chapter 5) by Steffen et al. (2005):

  1. Explain how the greenhouse gas effect contributes to climate change
  2. List the gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect and describe their sources.
  3. Describe the trend that you observe in CO2 concentration over time.
  4. Explain why there is a difference between the levels of CO2 during different seasons?
  5. While a growing population presents challenges, can it actually be a positive thing?

Length: One page (references, maps, graphs, tables, and other such supplements are encouraged and do not count against the page length limit) with a one-inch margin.

Spacing: The title and first paragraph should be separated by two spaces. Each paragraph should be separated by a single space (the first line should be indented), all lines within a paragraph should be single-spaced.

Thinking Critically about Art

Take a look at the image below. It is a work of art, and that is all I’ll tell you about it at this point. Without any outside sources and with looking at any other material in this module, I want you to respond to the image. “What do you think…” is the theme of this exercise. Do you respond favorably or unfavorably? Why are you having that response? I want you to dissect your response to the image, what is making you think the way you do about this particular piece.

Write up your response and submit here. I am looking for a minimum of 200 words in your response.

Markets & Politics: Nonmarket strategy for real-world firm: recommend action regarding proposed rule

Proposed Rule: https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=FDA-2019-N-…

For this assignment, you will write a nonmarket strategy report for a real-world firm. You will adopt the role of a consultant working on part of the firm’s corporate nonmarket strategy. In this role, you’ll develop a recommendation for the firms public politics actions regarding your proposed rule.

Based on your prior assignments, you should state what the interest of your firm is regarding your rule while considering whether your rule is changing an existing policy or seeking support/reinforcing an existing policy.

Length: 2 to 3 pages. Format: Single-spaced, double-spacing between paragraphs. APA format. Citations required for your rule proposal and if citing any evidence. Try to keep everything in the third-person.

Structure:

– Introduction (Background Information & Thesis)

– 3-4 supporting paragraphs with Evidence & Analyses

– Conclusion

– APA citations (In text & work cited page)

Your objective is to decide which nonmarket actions to recommend to the firm as they relate to the agency proposing the rule. The nonmarket actions you should consider (but are not limited to) are:

– Lobbying;

– Commenting on the proposed rule/providing information;

– Building a coalition with other firms.

Be sure to: 1. Consider the benefits (profits, sales, market value) 2. Outweigh the weekness (costs of organizing, direct costs of strategies)

For firms, the benefits are reflected in sales, profits, and market value, while the costs stem from organizing for collective action (if building a coalition), as well as the direct costs of undertaking nonmarket actions and achieving the desired outcome (i.e., its effectiveness). The effectiveness of a nonmarket strategy depends on the appeal to key stakeholders’ interests and the appeal to policymakers’ interests. The policymakers’ interests can be getting re-elected (if the policymaker is an elected public official) or building legitimacy (if the policymaker represents an independent agency).

Essay 3

Purpose and Overview

The penultimate out-of-class essay assignment of this semester gives you an opportunity to demonstrate the skills you have developed throughout the semester. You must show your ability to narrow a topic to a manageable size for the assignment, and you must demonstrate your ability to locate and incorporate appropriate academic sources into your writing.

Malcolm Gladwell, “Offensive Play,” pp. 346-357

Writing Task

In an essay of at least three pages, answer the following questions:

Why is there so much violence in America?

The question is so very broad in scope that it would take far, far more than just three pages to answer adequately, so you must narrow the focus to a much more specific topic. What you select as your focus is up to you, but it must be within the parameters of the overall subject of Americans and violence. The ideas discussed in the background readings could provide some possibilities, but you are not limited to only the topics that they cover.

You must use at least two sources in the final draft of your essay. One of the two sources can be an assigned reading from American Mashup. (You are not required to use any of the readings.) You must, therefore, locate at least one source on your own to include in this essay.

Environmental Activists

At a lumber mill workers were being injured when the band saw was knocked off the pulleys by metal spikes driven into the trees. Local ecological activists had driven these metal spikes into the trees to make the lumber company stop logging in a specific area. In response, the company ran the trees past a scanner to look for metal. This prevented the men from being injured. So, the activists drilled holes in the live trees and poured concrete into them. The scanners could not pick up the concrete and men began getting hurt again.

  • Were the actions of the environmental activists ethical? Why or why not?
  • What would you do if you were the owner and why?

Persuasive Research Essay about contemporary 21st-century artist.

I have attach the below PDF file about the essay and the guideline. Need to be in Chicago format style. I pick an artist already and the artist name is Takashi Murakami. You can use any of his artwork to compare and talk about it. I also will upload another file a small outline about him of what I want to write about, but you can always do differently such as changing the thesis statement but keep the same artist.

  • This is an argument style essay. You will be stating your position in a thesis statement in the introduction and persuading the reader to your point of view. (Your position need not be all “pro” or “con.” You can broaden your discussion by comparing and contrasting work or including some form of counter argument.)
  • In the body text, students will elaborate on the effectiveness or impact of the work chosen for discussion by presenting at least three specific examples to support your claims. Your examples serve as evidence for your thesis statement. For examples that are integral to your discussion, you will write descriptions of how the works look, their objectives, and their content. (Remember what you learned from writing a formal analysis paper.)
  • You may choose any combination of examples from a specific artist(s)’ designer(s)’ work, group, collective, action, or event.
  • 1) Discuss works based on related themes or concerns2) Discuss audience engagement or interaction: the relationship of the work to its audience3) Discuss distribution strategies or locations of selected artworks or design projects4) Discuss media coverage (or lack of) how the work is being represented in the art and/or mainstream press5) Discuss any political or social changes as a result of the work; the work’s broader influence, results, or outcomes.6) Discuss technological issues (see posthumanist or transhumanist issues)7) Other (but you must be clear)
  • This assignment requires a minimum of five TOTAL secondary sources as part of your discussion taken from any combination of newspapers, magazines, journals, or books. These sources will be articles and essays from SJSU or other online databases and from verifiable, established publications and books available online and in print. Informally published electronic resources (blogs, websites, social media, video) from the Internet can be used and must be cited, but will not count toward the five required sources. (See explanation below for definitions of online resources.) All material will be properly cited for your Endnotes and Bibliography. Use of primary sources is encouraged, but does not override the assignment’s secondary sources requirement.
  • • Have a well-developed topic outline or one-two paragraph narrative overview that specifically describes how you will organize your paper. Mind maps or other visual organizers are acceptable, but must have adequate detail to convey your ideas.• At least 1 1/2 – 2 pages of text/content development.• An informal, annotated bibliography of at least three sources you have found to date. An annotation is a brief summary of the content of the reference material, with an explanation why you think it is relevant to your research.
  • 6. SUMMARIZING, PARAPHRASING, AND QUOTING

  • • In the final version of your paper, you will demonstrate your understanding of accurate paraphrasing and direct quoting. In your body text, highlight or underline two examples of a paraphrase and one example of a direct quote. Include (after your Bibliography) copies of passages from the original source material (that you highlighted or underlined in the body text). Go online to a news media website such as the Orlando Sentinel, Washington Post, or New York Times, and find an article about a criminal law

    Question: Chapter 3

Classical theorist, such as Beccaria and Bentham felt punishment should serve as a deterrent to offenders (specific) and to the public (general). Go online to a news media website such as the Orlando Sentinel, Washington Post, or New York Times, and find an article about a criminal law and discuss its potential deterrent effects, both as a means of specific deterrence and general deterrence.

In your response, discuss the purpose for the law, its penalties, and provide an example of a person being arrested/prosecuted for the crime. In your opinion, does the law serve as an effective deterrent? In giving your answer, apply the three factors observed by Beccaria regarding the effectiveness of punishment as deterrence (Refer to pages 44-46). What would be a more effective alternative? Do not include online sex stings involving child predators. I say this because, from my experience, half the class will submit child sex stings as an example. Find something else.

This answer should be at least 300 words in length. Include a link to your article with your original post so your classmates (or me) can view it.
