The Research Proposal Draft should include the following sections:

I. Abstract: In 500 words or less, summarize the research problem space, research question, the method you will use to study the problem, and the type of results you expect to find once you conduct the study.

II. Introduction: Help your reader understand why it is important to study the topic you propose to investigate. Make a case for the IDT problem you have identified by citing one or two key sources in the field. For this negotiation you should negotiate something of personal value to you. You should report on your plan, your strategy, and the negotiation results. You can negotiate for anything you would like—a good or service from a merchant, a salary from a potential employer, etc. This paper should be approximately 5 double-spaced pages. At the end, please review the most important lessons that you learned in this course (including insights from the readings), your key strengths as a negotiator, and how you hope to improve moving forward. The rules are as follows:

  • Do not reveal the assignment: You are not allowed to resort to a plea of “Please help me out, this is for a class….” You may not disclose this information until the negotiation is completed.

This essay will be a test of student’s ability to respond to a deep-dive question concerning race and ethnic relations in the United States using material covered thus far in class. Students are expected to properly cite all sources using ASA format. Your essay should include a thesis, evidence from the test supporting your thesis, and a summary of your argument. Please be aware, this assignment is not a test of how well students craft essays that they may believe align with positions held by the instructor. This essay should be based on what you think and the evidence that has led you to hold such positions. You will be graded on the substance of your argument, your use of material to support your argument, writing style and clarity, and how convincingly you argue your position. A separate grading rubric will be provided as a guideline for the essay. Below are the prompts from which you must choose one question to craft your essay in response to.
