Case is 1.2, on page 130. Intriguing history and how Cuba arrived

There are three homework assignments in this class which consist or a review of a case drawn out of the textbook. Use the case as a basis for doing additional research on the topic. Use the case questions as a jumping-off point for your discussion. Do not simply answer the questions, but elaborate on the point that the questions ask to be addressed. Weave your answers into an essay responding to the topics in the case. Use the essay rubric in the Grading Rubrics folder as your guideline while you develop your case essay. Use APA style and formatting to compose the 600-800-word case essay. Please seek to add 3-4 additional business-related journal articles or trade-based resources for support. The word count excludes any charts and graphs and your reference list.

This week’s case is 1.2, on page 130. It is intriguing history and shows how Cuba arrived, and its future.

400-600 words

Some of the ramifications of social change in the United States include an influx of women into the workplace, same-sex marriage, an increased number of interracial marriages, online dating, and an increase in the number of children born outside of wedlock. What about the extensive use of body ink today? In the 1950s and 1960s, people sporting tattoos on their arms (much less their entire bodies) were stereotyped as trashy or up to no good. Today, acceptance is widespread, and it is common to see body art.

The list below briefly describes some recent social changes. Choose 1 that you may have difficulty accepting, and explain why. Note: If there is a different social change that you want to discuss, please consult your instructor.

  • Interracial marriage
  • Women in the military
  • Same-sex marriage
  • Adoption of children by same-sex couples
  • Females as the family breadwinners
  • Paternity leave for fathers
  • Disintegration of the traditional family

Now, take an opposing viewpoint to the change you discussed, and prepare an argument as if you supported it. For example, if you oppose same-sex marriage, what might someone who supports it say? Does this perspective help you understand why someone would be in favor of same-sex marriage? Note: You must support your argument by including at least 2 academic resources.

Social change can be slow, but it is inevitable. Choose 1 facet of modern society with which you still have not adjusted, and respond to the following questions:

  • How would you deal with someone who has embraced that lifestyle if you were to encounter him or her at your next job?
  • How do you think you might approach work and life differently? Be honest and specific.

  4. How many servings do you consume of this product?
  5. How many Calories does one serving of this product provide?
  6. Look at the nutrients you should limit (saturated fat and sodium).
    1. What is the %DV for saturated fat and sodium?
    2. What does this tell you about your product?
  7. Look at the “Get Enough of These” (dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals) nutrients
    1. What is the %DV for dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals?
    2. What does this tell you about your product?
  8. Using the information on the food label, describe how this product fits into a healthy diet.

Discover Politics #3: Public School Funding

OBJECTIVE: Public school finance in Texas is a complex and emotional issue for many residents. On one hand, there are those who support local control over anything else. Others point to a system that is flawed in favor of wealthier districts over lower-income districts. The state has tried to address this issue multiple times to find solutions that are both constitutional and equitable. Every time they do, the plan is challenged in court as someone argues it is illegal or unconstitutional (per the TX constitution). The main objective here is to learn more about why education funding is so problematic.

WHAT TO DO: Your task is to watch the three videos in this folder and answer a set of questions. There are 5 questions worth 2 points each. Be sure to answer each IN YOUR OWN WORDS (don’t just mimic the exact words of the video/transcript) and do so in at least 7 complete sentences (don’t be lazy!). You should create a word file that answers the questions and upload it to this dropbox. Here are your questions:

Video #1: Texas School Finance Overview- (https://www. youtube.com/watch?v=0w96z0BwyxA)

1) This video is from 2011 and gives an overview of school finance. It discusses the 2005 plan that was found unconstitutional by the State Supreme Court. Why was the 2005 plan found unconstitutional? What did the legislature do in response with HB1 (be specific)? What was the outcome in terms of funding levels for schools (deficits) in 2006? Beyond 2011, what kind of cuts were expected to districts and for how long?

Video #2: Texas Supreme Court and School Funding ( https://www. youtube.com/watch?v=ZFMX2vgrurw&t=38s )

2) This video is from 2016 and briefly mentions the court challenges due to the actions taken in HB1 (previous video). What was the court’s decision regarding the constitutionality of the current plan? What was the court’s reasoning for this decision? Gerry Birnberg (the guy on the panel) and makes a point about the quality of education. What does he say? What does Jacquie Baly say in response regarding funding?

Video #3: Can Texas System Save Failing School Districts ( https://www. youtube.com/watch?v=_eXYCERxBdo )

3) This video focuses on the impact of funding gaps on struggling districts. Which district is the main focus of the investigation? What is one thing that the superintendent (Ernest Singleton) had to do to save funds for the district? Why does he say this was necessary? What does it mean when a district is “failing academically”?

4) TEA has set eleven areas of improvement for Premont. What will happen if they cannot meet these standards? How many other districts are in the same position? How many times has the state closed districts in the past? Regarding the use of funds, what point does State Rep. Rob Eissler make?

5) In response to Rob Eissler, Scott Hochberg makes a few points about school finance. What does the data suggest about the funding difference between “exemplary” districts and “unacceptable” districts? Why does Hochberg suggest there is a funding gap between these schools? Who actually pays a higher tax rate, exemplary or unacceptable districts? What is Hochberg’s final observation about having a “level playing field”?

Integrative Literature Review

Integrative Literature Review

The primary goal of this literature review is to integrate concepts from four different content domains within the larger field of psychology. The four content domains should be chosen from previous coursework in this program. In this paper, students will review the findings in the individual empirical articles, organize the research in a meaningful way, evaluate the reliability, validity, and generalizability of the research findings, and present an integrated synthesis of the research that sheds new light on the topics within and across the four domains.

The result of a successful integrative literature review may be a significant contribution to a particular body of knowledge and, consequently, to research and practice. Therefore, before writing this literature review, substantive new research must be conducted via the Internet and within the Ashford University Library for each of the four chosen domains. A minimum of six sources must be included for each of the four domains. Although content from literature reviews completed in prior courses within this program may be included, it may not constitute the total research for the individual domains addressed within this assignment. No more than four sources from previous literature reviews completed in this program may be utilized for this integrative review.

The headings listed below must be used within the paper to delineate the sections of content. These sections include the following: a clear introduction that provides a general review and organizes the research in a meaningful way; a discussion in which the evidence is presented through analysis, critique, and synthesis; and a conclusion in which the discussion is drawn together in a meaningful way, the claims of the introduction are brought to a logical closure, and new research is proposed.

Introduction

  • Provide a conceptual framework for the review.
  • Describe how the review will be organized. The questions below may be used to guide this section.
    • What are the guiding theories within the domains?
    • How are the domains connected?
    • Are there competing points of view across the domains?
    • Why is the integration of these domains important?
    • What is the history of these domains?
    • What are the related theories or findings?
  • Describe how the literature was identified, analyzed, and synthesized.
  • How and why was the literature chosen?
  • What is your claim or thesis statement?

Discussion

  • Provide the analysis, critique, and synthesis for the review.

Analysis

  • Examine the main ideas and relationships presented in the literature across the four domains.
  • Integrate concepts from the four different content domains within the larger field of psychology.
  • What claim(s) can be made in the introduction?
  • What evidence supports the claim(s) made in the introduction?

Critique

  • Evaluate the reliability, validity, and generalizability of the chosen research findings.
  • How well does the literature represent the issues across the four domains?
  • Identify the strengths and the key contributions of the literature.
  • What, if any, deficiencies exist within the literature?
  • Have the authors omitted any key points and/or arguments?
  • What, if any, inaccuracies have been identified in the literature?
  • What evidence runs contrary to the claims proposed in the introduction, and how might these be reconciled with the claims presented?
  • Explain how the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct might influence the reliability and/or generalizability of the chosen findings.
  • Did the ethical issues influence the outcomes of the research?
  • Were ethical considerations different across the domains?

Synthesis

  • Integrate existing ideas with new ideas to create new knowledge and new perspectives.
  • Describe the research that has previously been done across these domains, as well as any controversies or alternate opinions that currently exist.
  • Relate the evidence presented to the major conclusions being made.
  • Construct clear and concise arguments using evidence-based psychological concepts and theories to posit new relationships and perspectives on the topics within the domains.

Conclusion

  • Provide a conclusion and present potential future considerations.
  • State your final conclusion(s).
  • Synthesize the findings described in the discussion into a succinct summary.
  • What questions remain?
  • What are the possible implications of your argument for existing theories and for everyday life?
  • Are there novel theories and/or testable hypothesizes for future research?
  • What do the overarching implications of the studies show?
  • Where should the research go from this point to further the understanding of these domains and the greater study of psychology?
