The CEO has received some resistance from the Board on undertaking a QI program. She has asked you to develop a set of talking points on the pros and cons of common measurement techniques used in healthcare that she can use the next time she runs into a Board member.

Talking points are used to quickly explain something by condensing it into a compelling, but easily digestible, list. If the goal is to increase support for a QI program, the talking points must provide the ideas she needs to convey in order to achieve the goal.

Your talking points should be submitted in a Word document. Your talking points should include the pros and cons of implementing a QI program.

Upon completion of your talking points, please prepare a PowerPoint presentation (or other shareable Webware/software you prefer) with narration where you will explain each talking point to the CEO so they clearly understand and can answer questions from the Board.

Part 1:

Managing boundaries is an everyday reality faced by human service professionals, particularly those who live and practice in small communities. Helpers who work in rural communities may have greater challenges in dealing with multiple relationships than those who work in urban areas. In 3 pages, explore the issues below. Please use APA subheadings and title the sections scenario 1, 2, and 3. Scenario 1:

A human service professional discovers that all of her bank accounts are at the local bank where a client works as a teller. This client has access to the human service professional’s financial information and may be able to ascertain who the human service professional’s other clients are in town when checks are deposited.

Scenario 2:

A human service professional sees one of his clients at the local grocery store. The client is with one or more other persons. The human service professional, who is mindful of confidentiality, must decide how to respond. If he doesn’t acknowledge the client, will the client feel snubbed? On the other hand, what if the human service professional approaches the client to say hello and the client doesn’t want others to know that he or she is working with the human service professional?

Scenario 3:

A human service professional has been invited to a dinner party hosted by a friend. She is not aware of the fact that the friend’s son is dating one of her new clients, who also attends the party. Upon seeing her client at her friend’s party, the human service professional must decide how to respond. This scenario can be taken in a number of directions. For example, what if the client has concerns with the human service professional’s friend because the son constantly complains about him/her? What if the client identifies as being gay and is romantically involved with the friend’s son, but his parent (the human service professional’s friend) does not know that he is gay? There are several more possibilities as well.

Part 2:

Increasingly, clients or former clients want to become “friends” with their human service professional via the Internet. For helping professionals who are considering using Facebook, a host of ethical concerns about boundaries, dual relationships, confidentiality, and privacy arise. In 2 pages, please summarize what you would do in this situation. Your response should include a minimum of four scholarly sources, one of which must be the National Organization of Human Services Code of Ethics.

School Counseling Intervention and Evaluation

Introduction

This assignment is designed to provide you with an opportunity to apply data results and analysis to an evaluation of your intervention outcomes. All comprehensive school counseling programs are expected to be evidence based and data driven.

For this assignment, you will be able to be a little bit creative and improvise as needed. You will use real datasets, but you are not expected to run an actual intervention. Instead, you get an opportunity to imagine you ran the best evidence-based intervention and that it worked. Your students gained academically!

How you decide to show your measurements is up to you. For example, if you want to say you used pre- and post-test assessments or if you decide to review data over multiple years, you get to decide what would be best for your goals and your program. You may want to keep it realistic as this will be expected of you as a school counselor, but you can have some fun with this part of the assignment.

Instructions

For this assignment:

1. Explain the need for program evaluation in a CSCP. This will take about one page to write.
2. Describe how you decided to implement the school counseling evidence-based interventions (i.e., the school counseling core curriculum lesson(s) and one additional evidence-based intervention) that address academic outcomes. For example, for the core curriculum component, was your intervention conducted in a single lesson or across a series of lessons? How many students were involved? For your additional intervention, if you decided to intervene with small group counseling, how often did you meet with the students, for how long, and with what expected outcome? This will take about one page to write. Remember, you are creating some information for this section as if you actually conducted the interventions in a school setting.
3. Describe the evaluation plan that you will use to show the effectiveness of your program. This section should go beyond a general definition of why program evaluation is important. Instead, it should specifically describe the way in which data will be used to measure effectiveness for the interventions you proposed. You should include definitions and specific examples of process, perception, and outcome data you will incorporate in your program evaluation.
4. Organize and review your data. Consider trends, increases, decreases, gender disparities, changes in scores, and so forth (see page 91 of your Facilitating Evidence-Based, Data-Driven School Counseling text). For example, you might use an Excel spreadsheet with either real data or data from a source provided in the Facilitating Evidence-Based, Data-Driven School Counseling text. Play around with this part of the assignment, as it will help prepare you for your final assignment in Unit 9. The more you practice working with data now, the better off you will be for Unit 9.
5. Evaluate the school counseling intervention based on your selected data. For example, how many students were served? What was their perception of change? What was the outcome on their academic goals? Again, you may invent school demographics and population data. This last step will take between one and two pages to write.
