Respond to my professors comments about my initial PSYCH discussion

I wrote my initial discussion and my professor comments with a question…I need you to respond to the professor’s question with at least 200 words and a reference.

MY INITIAL DISCUSSION:

My specialization is in the area of child adolescent development. This area of specialization in the field of psychology focuses on child development and the issues that are related to the making of ethical decisions among adolescent children. This field of specialization affects practitioners in either a direct or indirect ways. The whole life of adolescence stage of life is studied, this includes the parental aspects, puberty and also the completion of the stage. There are various things that are considered in the study, the physical development of a child is studied, the mental development and also cognitive aspects of child development. The study involves studying the various aspects in various contexts in the society including culture and families.“The Government has recognised that we require the development of a competent, confident and valued workforce, as a critical part of its reform agenda to improve children’s outcomes (Aldgate, Jones, Rose, Jeffery, 2006).

There are various concepts related to this field of study. First is understanding child development. This is the biological and emotional and physical changes that take place at the adolescent stage. In this case, the terms growth and development of a child are described fully. There are the main areas that are described to show growth and development. The field of study describes physical development in terms of the size of the body. There is also emotional development relating to the ability to show emotions. The ability of a child to socialize with people is also a key concept of the field of study. There is a difference between a child needs and those of an adult. There is a need to understand child rights and protect adolescents from any kind of abuse.

This area of study relates to the current situation in the world where there is a lot of causes related to child abuse. There are various cases in the society where children development needs are not met and thus ending up spoiling children lives. The level of substance abuse among adolescents has gone high due to poor child development. In the society, children have experienced mistreatments from the adults and also have been abused in various ways.

PROFESSOR’S COMMENTS:

Hi, this is a really wide subject, isn’t – covering the birth through the end of adolescence. Are you more interested in “problems” such as abuse and substance issues, or researching the course of normal development?

POST 1:

What stressors during middle adulthood might contribute to such a crisis?

Thinning or balding hair, graying hair, wrinkles, and the need for eyeglasses are all stressors during middle adulthood that might contribute to a crisis. Some cognitive changes can also occur such as a decline in intelligence. Losing a job can also be a stressor that leads to a crisis.

How might an individual’s multicultural identities affect the stressors experienced during middle adulthood? A person’s multicultural identity affect stressors experienced during middle adulthood by affecting the way they feel about aging. Some cultures embrace aging more than others. Depression is one of the most prevalent psychiatric diagnoses among the elderly, increasing morbidity, disability, and suicide risk (Seegert, 2013).

What types of preventative or protective behaviors could prevent the individual from experiencing a developmental crisis? Human services professionals can provide preventative or protective services such as counseling to prevent an individual from experiencing a developmental crisis (Argosy, 2017). Doing things like getting regular medical exams, exercising, and focusing on healthy nutrition are also some other preventative behaviors to prevent developmental crisis.

POST 2:

Midlife can best be conceptualized as a period of transition. Middle Adulthood is a stage where individuals undergo diverse changes in their physical, psychological, and psychosocial lives. People in Middle Adulthood experience both losses and gains. This development stage event can be negative or positive. Additionally, this developmental stage can produce more stress related issues as these individuals may be more cognizant of the changes in their physical appearance and declining health issues (argosy University, 2017).

We have all heard the term “midlife crisis” and I have enjoyed listening to some comical stories regarding people in midlife crisis. Culturally speaking, I have observed older men or men in their middle adulthood stage revert back to dressing younger, acting younger, and dating younger women. Some men purchase certain cars in hopes of alluring younger women. My culture refers to as a “midlife crisis.”The older men try to compete with younger men for the attention and affection of younger women and it is not age appropriate. One reason men behave this way is because they are feeling the effects of aging. They may have medical issues, problems with weight gain, and hair loss. These physical changes can be challenging to men and cause depression or issues with self-esteem.

Some of the stressors associated with middle adulthood issues are returning adult children to the home, providing for adult children who have not left home, marital issues, health problems, and caring for aging parents. Individuals experiencing middle adulthood usually have multiple layers of responsibilities and these responsibilities can create stress. However, it is remiss not to mention that during this stage the cognitive abilities of individuals is increased and the ability to problem solve is excellent. In fact, studies show that the mental capabilities of people in middle adulthood actually increase and certain types of knowledge, such as practical knowledge increase markedly (Argosy University, 2017).

Middle adulthood individuals should exercise daily, eat nutritionally, and learn how to balance work and home. Taking a proactive stance can greatly improve an individual’s health and reduce the onset of some chronic diseases or conditions. People in middle adulthood should have regular doctor visits, watch their weight, and monitor their mental health. Equally important, establishing networks for mental health, physical health, and multicultural/crosscultural interaction is vital at this stage. Therefore, individuals should establish a network of support from their community, family, religious community, and friends. These support networks can help to alleviate or reduce stress triggers and make this development stage more pleasant and positive.

Explain why it is necessary to approach assessment in early childhood differently than assessment with older children

When using assessments with young children, it is important to make sure that they are being used appropriately and with a specific purpose in mind. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is an important resource to use as you are making decisions about assessment in early childhood. According to Howard, V. F., & Aiken, E. ( 2015), “NAEYC takes the position that assessment in ECE is not only unique and valuable but also vital to implementing developmentally appropriate practices and the success of individual children, their families, ECE professionals, and ECE programs” (p. 60). Developmentally, young children have distinct needs when it comes to assessment, as the traditional paper/pencil assessment is not appropriate. Therefore, it is important that assessment in early childhood is approached in a developmentally responsive manner, always considering the individual needs of this age group. For this discussion you will reflect on the similarities and differences between assessment with older children and assessment in early childhood, and explore the unique ways in which assessment in early childhood is conducted.

Include the following in your discussion post:

  • Explain why it is necessary to approach assessment in early childhood differently than assessment with older children.
    • In what ways are assessments similar, regardless of the age of the children?
    • In what ways are assessments in early childhood different?
  • Identify how play-based, project-based, and child-directed learning support the implementation of developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood.
  • Compare and contrast your personal stance on assessment with that of either NAEYCor the Division for Early Childhood (DEC). In what ways do they align? In what ways do they differ? Use Chapter 2 of the course textbook to support your response.
  • Determine what, in your opinion, the role of families is in the assessment-learning process. Thinking about the age of children you desire to work with and the unique needs of that age group, how do you envision working with families during the assessment process? Provide specific examples.

Peer review 7 Method Pros and Cons, accounting homework help

Over the last year, the Women’s Sportswear and Accessories division has seen increases in prices and difficulties acquiring the required raw materials from around the world. Between rising costs, suppliers changing business models and bad weather, the cost of raw materials have begun to rise and in turn causes the divisions profit margins begin to dwindle. There are multiple course of action Burberry can take to overcome these issues, each with their pros and cons.

Method Pros and Cons

As noted by Garrison Noreen Brewer (2012) there three common methods of dealing with rising cost of raw materials. The first is to operate with a lower profit margin by maintaining the price of the finished products. Price increases can be passed along to the customer and finally renegotiation can happen to attempt to lower or lock in the costs.

Working at a lower profit margin would not benefit the division as Burberry prides itself upon providing high quality luxurious products. The company markets to a higher class clientele, making fewer sales, thus relying upon high profit margins to maintain a profit. As stated by Brian Bass (Chron), “[Low Profit Margin] businesses need to keep prices competitive and sell a large volume of goods,” whereas “[High Profit Margin] businesses commonly prefer this model because it does not rely on a large sales volume to make a profit.” Therefore it would likely be detrimental to work at a lower profit margin.

The rising costs can also be offset by passing the cost along to the customer. Total change it price would be minimal, and as we market to high class clientele it would likely be overlooked. Many of the consumers of Burberry buy the products for the name and the quality, regardless of the price. This theory can be a double edged sword though as seen by the attempt by ConAgra Foods to increase their price points. The example given by Garrison Noreen Brewer shows how the “Banquet” brand of frozen meals, normally priced at $1.00, were given a price hike to $1.25. This price increase dramatically affected sales, dropping total sales 40%, pushing the overall gross profits well below the profits they were making before. Profits per unit went up, but total sales plummeted. Because Burberry is known as a luxury brand the repercussions of such a move would likely not be this drastic, but sales would likely stumble a bit.

Finally Burberry can negotiate deals with its suppliers to lock in prices or change suppliers all together. Hedge contracts can be negotiated with supplier as it is known how much of each material is needed, thus locking in prices for a period of time. This can be very successful in reducing the effects of turns in the economy as seen by the Fuel Hedging done by Southwest Airlines who saved over $4 billion between 1999 and 2008. By locking in the prices of the needed materials, for the length of the contract it will be expect that the cost will not change

Recommendations

At this time renegotiation of contracts would be the best course of action. The procurement department should push to lock in prices to limit the effects of economy. Minimal amounts of pushing the cost to the customer can be used to offset the costs in the short term. This method should be used sparingly as to not scare away the clientele. The idea of working with lower profit margins should be avoided as Burberry is a High Profit Margin business, selling high priced but fewer total sales.
