Discussion Topics for “The Woman Question:

1. Compare Sarah Stickney Ellis and John Riskin’s ideas about women’s roles in relation to men’s. What kind of education are women suited for? Are women equal to men in importance? How do these writers view domestic life?

2. The introduction to Coventry Patmore’s “Angel In the House” explains that early 20th century critics like Virginia Woolf criticized the poem “for the sentimentality of its ideal of woman and for the oppressive effects of this ideal on women’s lives.” Using specific examples from the poem, support Woolf’s claim.

3. Explain the problems of needing “something to do” and having “nothing to do” as discussed by Dinah Maria Mulock and Florence Nightingale.

4. Discuss the following observation made by Florence Nightingale: “Why have women passion, intellect, moral activity–these three–and a place in society where no one of the three can be exercised?”.

5. Do the ideas set forth in “The Great Social Evil” conflict with the views of womanhood set forth by Ruskin, Patmore, and Ellis? For example, the anonymous writer states that “virtue . . . is . . . the principle, the essence, which keeps watch and ward over the conduct . . . . No such principle ever kept watch and ward over me.”

6. Compare Mona Caird’s and John Ruskin’s views on marriage and comment on the significance of those views.

7. Comment on the significance of the ideas set forth in the excerpt from Harriet Martineau’s Autobiography.

Journalism assignments week 1-6

I have been going through some personal issues but clearly my professor doesn’t know that. I received an email from him today stating his concern. Please help me write a professional response to him stating that I don’t want to drop the course and I will make up every assignment and that I’ve been going through a lot but will try my hardest not to mix the two. Also state that I will attend every course on time moving forward etc. just all important points. I have posted his email below. Also need you to make up every missing Assignment from week 1 to week 6 any questions feel free to ask

“You have not submitted any assignments for this course and you have missed classes and arrived unacceptably late for other classes. You also didn’t participate in the class today when I called on you several times. IT IS LIKELY YOU ARE GOING TO FAIL THIS COURSE. I strongly suggest that you drop the course now so that you will not fail. If there are extenuating circumstances, please let me know. If you do intend to stay in the course – which I think would be the wrong decision – you must attend every remaining class and arrive on time and you must catch up to all the assignments immediately. But I don’t think this is possible so I encourage you to drop.”

Discuss how Web 2.0 and social media have altered the way in which entrepreneurial and small businesses

    Task 1

Write a paper of 1,500 words that responds to the following:

    • Discuss how Web 2.0 and social media have altered the way in which entrepreneurial and small businesses do the following:
      • Engage their existing customers
      • Attract new customers
      • Listen to employee and customer feedback
      • Respond to crises
    • Provide current examples.
    • Apply
Kirton’s adaptation-innovation theory to discuss how a newer
entrepreneurial venture might differ from a more mature, intrapreneurial
venture in its approach to social media.

    Part 2 Tasks

According to Byers, Kist, and Sutton’s article titled
“Characteristics of the Entrepreneur: Social Creatures, Not Solo
Heroes,” entrepreneurs are inherently social people (1997). This article
explains why entrepreneurs are highly social by nature. In an article
titled “Who’s Most Likely to go it Alone?,” Alessandra Bianchi offers a
set of characteristics that predispose people toward entrepreneurship
(1993). These characteristics, for example, come from life experiences
such as being the child of an entrepreneur, being fired from multiple
jobs, or being either an immigrant or the child of an immigrant.

With these readings in mind, complete the following in 1,300 words:

    • Profile the founder of a well-known company, and focus on that person’s social characteristics.
    • Include
references to the characteristics found in the Bianchi article, and
align the characteristics with the founder’s personality.

Presenting Professional Advice in Developmental Psychology

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read the American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (2010).

For your initial post, imagine the following scenario: As a psychology professional, you have been asked to provide a caregiver with your professional opinion regarding how issues related to your chosen topic may influence short and long-term physical, cognitive, or psychosocial development in his or her child. Choose one of the following topics in the area of development to research and discuss:

    • Prenatal development
    • Vaccinations
    • Attachment parenting
    • Daycare
    • Corporal punishment
    • Other: __________________ (Note: Please obtain permission from your instructor before pursuing this option!)

Focus your discussion around one of the following stages: the prenatal period, infancy, or toddlerhood (conception – 3 years).

Using the Ashford University Library, research at least three peer-reviewed articles on your chosen topic that either support or challenge aspects of your chosen issue. Strive to find recent work, but seminal research on the topic should be considered as well. Evaluate the unique scholarly perspectives found in your research. Based on the research you reviewed, identify your professional position on the topic; specifically, will incorporation of this element have a positive or negative impact on the child’s development? Apply this research to major themes of development influenced by your chosen topic (i.e., physical, cognitive, and/or social) and explain how the literature supports your chosen stance. Point out how your stance compares or contrasts with prevailing popular wisdom on the topic. Your explanation should take the form of a persuasive discussion intended to help the caregiver respond positively to your advice as a psychology professional. Analyze any ethical considerations discussed in the research and their effect(s) on the trends related to your topic. Include the complete references for your selected articles at the end of your initial post.
