Ethical and Unethical Organizations and Techniques to Improve their Ethics

Please read entirely- There are 2 part to this and each part should be at least a page.
Part 1: Ethical and Unethical Organizations

Organizations can be considered “ethical” or “unethical.” Ethical organizations are those in which leaders adhere to ethical guidelines and engage in ethical conduct while encouraging employees to do the same. When an organization’s leaders do not engage in ethical conduct or encourage employees to do so, the organization may be considered unethical. For example, in 2010, leaders and employees at Toyota committed ethical breaches by failing to disclose and address safety concerns regarding some of their automobiles. Given the unethical conduct of Toyota leaders and employees, many considered Toyota to be an unethical organization.

  1. Review Chapter 10 in The Ethics Challenge in Public Service. Focus on how ethical institutions are described.
  2. Review Chapter 12 in the Jossey-Bass Reader on Nonprofit and Public Leadership. Pay attention to the need to focus on results, and to commit the organization to achieving those results, in nonprofit organizations.
  3. Read the Panel on the Nonprofit Sector report Principles for Good Governance and Ethical Practice: A Guide for Charities and Foundations. Focus on the guidelines for good governance and ethical practice in nonprofit organizations.
  4. Think about an institution that fits what these resources and your own assessment would consider to be an ethical institution. Think about what makes it ethical.
  5. Identify an organization (public or private) with which you are very familiar. This organization could be one in which you worked or one with which you are familiar from the news.
  • Think about the extent to which the organization is ethical.
    • Write a brief description of the organization you selected. NOTE: Do NOT state the name of the organization.
    • Then explain the extent to which the organization is ethical. Provide specific examples to illustrate your explanation

Part 2: Techniques for Improving Ethics in Organizations

There are a number of techniques designed to develop and improve the ethical conduct of leaders and employees in organizations. The use of these techniques varies depending on how “ethical” an organization may already be or strive to be. Many techniques are useful across organizations. For instance, leaders and human resources personnel in all organizations should make sure that newly hired employees receive ethics training. Some techniques are more useful than others when organizations need extensive improvement in ethical conduct. In this Discussion, you reflect on the organization you chose for the first Discussion this week and identify techniques that could be used to improve the ethical conduct of its leaders and employees.

  • Review Chapter 8 in The Ethics Challenge in Public Service. Focus on the role of codes of ethics.
  • Review Chapter 10 in The Ethics Challenge in Public Service, focusing on the range of tools suggested for how to create ethical institutions.
  • Read examples of codes of ethics, and of practical tips, from the listed websites.
  • Choose and gather information about an organization that uses one or more of these sorts of tools.
  • Using the same organization, you chose for the first part, identify two techniques you think would be most useful in improving the ethical conduct of leaders and employees.

Assignment Page 2 Requirements:

  • A brief description of the organization you chose for the first page
  • Describe at least two techniques you think would be most useful in improving the ethical conduct of leaders and employees in that organization.
  • Explain how and why these techniques would be useful. Be specific and use examples to illustrate your explanation.

All resources must be cited properly in APA Format.

“Sales Forecasting and Cash Flow”Please respond to the following:

  • An important step in developing a projected (pro forma) income statement is to create a sales forecast and calculate anticipated revenue for the business. Imagine you are creating a business—develop a sales forecast and estimate revenue for the first year of operation, and describe the process you used to arrive at your estimates.
  • The three (3) primary causes of cash flow problems in a business are accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory. Imagine you are creating a business—identify one (1) cause of cash flow problems that you believe will be the most challenging for your company. Next, discuss the strategies you will use to mitigate problems in this area.

BUSINESS COMMUNICATION: Developing Leaders for a Networked World, Peter Cardon, 4th Edition

Part 1: Case Analysis

Read the discussion forum below, which shows several employees’ posts about how to develop a better performance review system. Then, answer the questions that follow.

Jackson: Hi team, this week we’ll use this forum to discuss our performance review system. Specifically, we want to explore the benefits and drawbacks about the timing of our reviews. Currently, our reviews are conducted annually. The HR team wants to know what we think about quarterly reviews. The HR team wants us to share our views with them by September 10.

Cynthia: I’ve never experienced quarterly reviews before, so it’s hard for me to say if that’s better. My hunch is quarterly reviews would be more fair and helpful. But, I also assume they take a lot of extra time for our managers. @Erin I think your last company held quarterly reviews. What are your experiences with more frequent reviews? Has anyone else worked at a company with more frequent reviews? Tell us what it was like.

Erin: @Cynthia your assumptions match my experience. I enjoyed getting more frequent feedback. But, when I was a manager, it was a crushing responsibility because the company expected me to conduct the reviews without lightening my load elsewhere. @Nigel thanks for sharing your experiences with monthly reviews. You mentioned the reviews are more like check-ins that don’t require so much time by the managers. Totally makes sense to me. @Vilma also think your comments about adding peer reviews makes a lot of sense and relieves managers.

Nigel: Hi all, there’s one discussion point I hope we can meet in person (or by online conference) to discuss. I appreciate the HR team wants our input about the frequency of reviews, but I’m worried that we’re not addressing one of the problems: perceived fairness of the reviews. I believe in 15 minutes, we could work out a few common concerns to share with the HR group from our whole team.

Jackson: Thanks for your comments, team. Overall, here are what I think are the key take-aways: (a) we want more feedback, so quarterly reviews may be helpful; (b) we don’t want to create an unreasonable burden on managers; and (c) we want more conversation around objectivity and fairness of the reviews. At this point, I propose I draft our comments into a short report for your review. I also suggest we set up a one-hour

Questions:

1.Identify five strategies used in this online forum. (3 Marks)

2.What are the main differences and similarities between blogs and forums? (1 Mark)

3.In your point of view, do you think this forum is an effective or ineffective forum? Why? (1 Mark)

Part 2: Writing Exercise

Anne Jenkins is a finance manager for J.L.N. Used Cars (JLN), a used-car business with about 30 dealerships. She is in charge of running the company’s financing program. Response to student on Ethics violations POV of a marketing agency, management homework help

INSTRUCTIONS: Please RESPOND to this answer from the Point of view as a student. Use credible sources and respond as if you are a member of a marketing agency. Tell this student what your agency would think of each of these answers:

Ethics violations

Ethics violations are common in the workplace for a number of reasons. An example that immediately leapt to mind, and other students have addressed, is the issue of Wells Fargo. Violations of an ethical code can occur in situations like the prominent bank’s, in which upper management expects and rewards unrealistic behavior, essentially encouraging employees for acting poorly (Egan, 2016). Carpenter and Sanders explain, “…the larger the reward, the more some people are willing to compromise their standards” (2008, p. 58). Other occurrences of unethical behavior can occur because of distributed responsibility and employees believing someone else will blow the whistle or would be more equipped to report the activity (Carpenter & Sanders, 2008). Another cause is often obedience to authority, in which employees obey the upper management team despite the ethics of the behavior, and a false consensus, in which team members convince each other than the behavior isn’t actually unethical (Hoyk & Hersey, 2009).

It is interesting to note that these items are not necessarily threats to decision making, as biases are, but are instead subverted, unethical attempts at rational thinking. It is, indeed, rational to think that another employee may be more qualified to blow the whistle on bad behavior. However, it is still not correct. To induce employees to think rationally and ethically, firms must have ethics standards and means of implementing them. This includes empowering employees to speak up against unethical behavior.

Problem Analysis Paper for MGMT Class

PROBLEM ANAYSIS PAPER #1 GUIDELINES

MANAGEMENT 125

A signiicant body of research has highlighted the power of learning through the use of self for case analysis. You were assigned to keep a log to note when you experienced conflict, what the issues were, who was involved, what you did, how well it worked, and how you felt in the process. From this you will pick one issue you wish to analyze throughout the quarter using course concepts. The selected case should be of substance (not a simple “do the dishes” situation) and preferably on-going (if not, then recently resolved). The selected problem must be something explicitly occurring among two or more parties (you being one of the involved parties). An internal conflict does not qualify. A focus on the latent issue(s) rather than the manifest behavior(s) may facilitate identifying a substantive option. Each installment (this is #1) should be roughly 4 pages (+/- 1)well proofread, well formatted, and Times Roman 12 point font. As for single or double space, I am inding that a single spaced paper that is well formatted (concise focused paragraphs, good use ofheadings and white space) can provide a superior presentation. You might look at the format of these guidelines as a format for outlining your paper. You might think in terms of each section below being one page long (give or take).
