Assignment: Using Variance Analysis in Decision Making

Having a budget is critical for the financial stability of an organization. Keeping track of how well the organization is actually adhering to the budget, and subsequent identification of why the budget numbers are being missed is equally important. Without this critical “why” piece, it is difficult to make the necessary adjustments to the budget or to organizational behavior that might be promoting overspending.

A good budget is built with thoughtful consideration of future costs and revenue. Though your budget is formulated with expected figures in mind, the actual resulting values may vary considerably. This variance–from projected to actual–can be a pleasant surprise or a fiscal nightmare and can make financial decision making difficult. Fortunately, variance analysis can enable management to determine why variance occurred and what can be done to mitigate its effects.

For those not comfortable with the use of Microsoft Excel, this week’s Optional Resources suggest several tutorials.

To prepare:

  • Review the information in Learning Resources dealing with variance analysis, how it is calculated, and how it can be used in decision making.
  • View the video Week 8 Application Assignment Tutorial: Variance Analysis, provided in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Use the Week 8 Application Assignment Template, provided in this week’s Learning Resources, to complete this assignment. Carefully examine the information in each of the scenarios and provide the necessary calculations. Using this information will help you answer the questions.

Note: For those Assignments in this course that require you to perform calculations you must:

  • Use the Excel spreadsheet template for the Week 8 assignment
  • Show all your calculations and formulas in the spreadsheet.
  • Answer any questions included with the problems (as text in the Excel spreadsheet).

add and edit the information in my writing, assignment help

I have my writing and I want you to add more information and edit it, write a clear thesis statement, and conclusion. it is Critique/Analytical Response

use not higher level words.

here is the guidelines

In your essay, you will first briefly summarize the work, presenting the main points of the text in a condensed form and in your own words. After you have summarized the author’s main points or key ideas, you must then evaluate them, assessing their validity and/or effectiveness. You must present your arguments without using first person. Readers will assume that ideas presented are your own unless you cite a source.

Further Guidelines (Your paper must have all of the following components):

Introduction: I will expect to see the author’s name and the title of the work somewhere in the first paragraph. In the introduction

you will state in your own words the main idea of the text you are critiquing. In a separate sentence, present your

thesis and also state the points you intend to make about the article. This sentence (or sentences) will serve as the

plan sentence, an “essay map” indicating where you are going with your paper. You might also consider providing

some brief background information about the work and its author in the introduction; such background can help the

reader to understand the relevance of the text.

Summary: Give a brief summary of the text, presenting the main ideas in your own words. Be sure to discuss the author’s

purpose. Remember to leave out all details and to avoid any repetition in the original source. Sequence the author’s

points in logical order. As you will be covering quite a bit of ground in a fairly short space, effective use of

transitions will be especially important here. Note: Avoid stating your opinion in the summary; opinion should

be withheld for the analysis and response portion of the paper.

Analysis & Response: Assess (evaluate the effectiveness/validity of) the author’s presentation. The assessment may either address or be separate from your response—your agreement or disagreement. Comment on whether or not the author successfully achieves his purpose; to do this task, please discuss two or three specific points of critique. Begin by briefly restating the author’s point that you are addressing or by stating your observation/argument, and then comment on the author’s evidence and reasoning in reference to his success in achieving that point. This part of the paper should be the majority of the paper and is the main focus. Use the following questions (as applicable) as a basis for your analysis:

  • What is the author’s purpose?
  • Does the author achieve his or her purpose?
  • If there seems to be an argument, is it effectively presented and supported?
  • Is the information accurate?
  • Is the information significant? (How?)
  • Does the author interpret and use the information fairly?
  • Does the author define terms clearly?
  • Is the information adequate/inadequate to support the author’s point?
  • Does the author argue logically? (Does the author demonstrate faulty thinking or use logical fallacies?)

Repeat this process for each point you analyze.

Remember to consider your reactions to the text as they will inform your analysis of it. Consider whether, overall, you agree or disagree with the argument and why, OR consider which views you agree with and which you disagree with. Reflect upon your reasoning, explaining on what grounds you agree or disagree, “tying these reasons to assumptions—both the author’s and your own” (Behrens and Rosen 59).

Conclusion: In your conclusion, state your overall reaction to the validity of the author’s work. Evaluate how well he achieves his purpose, and restate the strengths and weaknesses of the text.

ece332 week 4 discussion 1 RESPONSE s.w., psychology homework help

Respond by providing additional ways that teachers or caregivers can minimize stereotypical differences in the classroom. Compare your classmates’ analyses of the videos to your own, and point out any differences or similarities that you find. Mine is attached below.

Gender roles are the combination of attitudes, behaviors, and personality characteristics that a culture considers appropriate for an individual’s anatomical sex. Psychologists have proposed a number of theories to explain gender typing (LeFrancois, 2012).

The two video I chose to analyze was Free to Be, You and Me- Ladies First and Boy Meets Girl.

The first video is about a girl who is convinced that she should always be first and have her own way. She talks about she is a “sweet little thing”, how nice her dress is, how she wears matching ribbons in her hair, shiny shoes, and white socks. She also mention that she present herself to be clean. She feels to herself that she should always be first for everything “ladies first, ladies first.” It also tells how when she went on the natures walk through the jungle, she made everyone stop saying she has to be careful of her lovely dress, white socks, and shiny black shoes. She made them clear the way for her. As the person was cutting up the mango, they mentioned that it was not enough mangos to go around. She did not want to share hers so she ran in front saying “ladies first.”

The second video that I chose was about a little five-year-old boy name William. William had wanted a doll to hug and hold. He also wanted it to wash and clean, and dress and feed it. His family and friends would always ick on him for wanting a doll. His parents told him that boys do not play with dolls it is for girls. His parents also figured if he participates in sports, that it would get his mind off wanting a doll. After he played baseball, he still asks his daddy if he can get the doll. William grandma thought it was great he wanted a doll so she bought one for him. When his daddy saw that William grandma got him one he frown. So she decided to pull him aside to explain that maybe if William get one he’ll learn how to love and care for a baby of his own. It will teach him how to be a great father when he grows up. After explaining that to him his thought of William having, a doll changed.

Next, explain how your own gender identity may have been influenced by gender stereotypes?

Ladies First: I think my own gender identify may have not been influenced by gender stereotypes. Growing up being the only girl and having two brothers and two boy cousins, I knew that being a girl they expect you to be clean, play with girl things. That was hard for me to do that knowing that you wanted to do the same thing as the boys does. Every day I would get dirty from playing kickball, dodgeball, climbing trees, or even hunting for deer or raccoons in the woods. To me I also feel that playing with certain toys do not make you a boy or a girl. I feel a toy is a toy rather it’s blur or green, yellow or pink. In today world men now a days wears pink. Before you wouldn’t catch a man wearing pink.

Boy Meets Girl: I think that we do not look at things in long terms. Meaning, later in life the things you do when you were younger can have a huge impact on you when you get older. As I was growing up girls, would play with trucks, play football, or even dress in boys clothing. In addition, boys could do the same play with girl toys like dolls and tea party.

Finally, what are some strategies you can use in an early childhood educational setting to avoid gender stereotyping?

I would have a dramatic play area that will have pretend clothing like a police officer, doctor, teacher, and a lawyer. I also would include a kitchen area because this area I a role for both men and women. I would encourage him or her that it is ok for anyone to play in this area.

4-paragraph essay between 450 and 600 words

the articles that we read so far: “The State of the World`s Health,” “Anatomy of a Nutrition Trend,” “A Healthy Lifestyle Can Reduce Fatigue, Boost Energy, and “Bad Food? Tax It and Subsidize Vegetables.”For this essay you will be required to include at least 1 quote (maximum 2) from the readings in your essay and write a full 4-paragraph essay between 450 and 600 words.

Our first reading discussed reasons why we should stay healthy and gave reasons why people are not healthy. The second reading explained the influence of media, friends and family, experts, and trends on our health choices. In some ways, the information we receive from these sources help us, but in other ways it can confuse us. The third article explains why, but mostly how to stay healthy. And the last article suggests a solution for improving the health of Americans by taxing “bad foods.”

Based on what you have read in the articles and your own experience/knowledge, do you think it is a good idea for government to regulate the food we eat by taking actions like taxing food? If you think about his question, you will likely do well on tomorrow`s in-class.

Bio-Psycho-Social Assessment

Project: Bio-Psycho-Social Assessment

Assessing a client’s biological, psychological, and social history is a holistic approach that is an essential aspect of social work practice. Since one area often affects the other two, it is important to get as accurate an assessment as possible when working with a client. Social workers use the bio-psycho-social tool to communicate specific information, and possible conclusions, about a client to other professionals. It is, at once, a summary of current issues and problems; a listing of past factors that may be relevant to the current situation; and a description of potential issues that may have an effect on the client in the future. In addition to describing the client’s challenges and problems, the assessment identifies strengths and assets that are available to provide support. For this Project you create a bio-psycho-social assessment.

By Day 7

Submit a 6- to 9-page paper that focuses on an adolescent from one of the case studies presented in this course. For this Project, complete a bio-psycho-social assessment and provide an analysis of the assessment. This Project is divided into two parts:

Part A: Bio-Psycho-Social Assessment: The assessment should be written in professional language and include sections on each of the following:

Presenting issue (including referral source)

Demographic information

Current living situation

Birth and developmental history

School and social relationships

Family members and relationships

Health and medical issues (including psychological and psychiatric functioning, substance abuse)

Spiritual development

Social, community, and recreational activities

Client strengths, capacities, and resources

Part B: Analysis of Assessment. Address each of the following:

Explain the challenges faced by the client(s)—for example, drug addiction, lack of basic needs, victim of abuse, new school environment, etc.

Analyze how the social environment affects the client.

Identify which human behavior or social theories may guide your practice with this individual and explain how these theories inform your assessment.

Explain how you would use this assessment to develop mutually agreed-upon goals to be met in order to address the presenting issue and challenges face by the client.

Explain how you would use the identified strengths of the client(s) in a treatment plan.

Explain how you would use evidence-based practice when working with this client and recommend specific intervention strategies (skills, knowledge, etc.) to address the presenting issue.

Analyze the ethical issues present in the case. Explain how will you address them.

Working With the Homeless Population: The Case of Diane

Diane is a 15-year-old, Caucasian female. She is a freshman at a new high school where she began 3 weeks into the semester. Her current residence is the homeless shelter in a local church. Diane’s teachers felt she was having difficulty adjusting to the new school because she sat with her head down and was very quiet, so they referred her to me. I am a school social worker, part of the child study team, and I regularly do social assessments on students to evaluate how they are functioning from a biopsychosocial perspective.

Upon first meeting with Diane, I noticed that her clothes were wrinkled and her hair seemed as if it had not been washed in some time. Eager to develop rapport, I introduced myself and explained my role at the school. Diane was quiet, with her eyes downcast and provided one-word answers to my questions. When I realized I was not building rapport, I gently asked how she was feeling, and she replied, “Awful.” I asked what was causing this feeling and she began to cry and inventoried what was upsetting her. She told me it was too difficult for her to shower at the shelter as there was a limited amount of time and some people took too long. She also reported that she felt so embarrassed about her appearance, she didn’t have any friends, she was lost in her classes, and her mother cried all the time. She explained that she had seen her mother abused many times, and they finally escaped and found “this church to help us.”

I was grateful that she opened up and realized that there were many issues to address. Recognizing that some of these were basic needs, I decided to first tackle her physiological needs to provide some relief, and then later I would address some of the other concerns, such as safety, her sense of belonging, and academic issues.

After learning Diane did not have lunch due to a lack of money, I got her some food from the cafeteria, and we began to develop a plan together. We drew a large circle and placed her name in the circle along with all the presenting problems she had named. We began with physiological needs. I gave her information about the free lunch program, explaining to her that other students would not know she was enrolled in it because she would have a cafeteria swipe card identical to everyone else’s. I also said that I would try to coordinate for her to shower in the girl’s locker room after school. This, however, would require interacting with other entities such as the shelter, school administration, and, of course, her mother. We drew circles around the large circle so I could show her all the interactions that needed to take place. We decided to check things off as we made progress. We set up weekly meetings for the next month to address and fine-tune these issues.

As the month progressed, Diane was coming to our meetings much more relaxed. She was enrolled in the free lunch program and was showering after gym class during her study hall. Once her physiological needs were being met, I noticed that her grades began to improve. I felt we could begin to address some of her social and emotional needs, such as developing friendships and healing from the abuse she witnessed.

Diane expressed interest in painting, and I mentioned the after-school art club that worked in the school studio and went to museums and galleries. Diane was interested in attending, and I thought that this was a good place for meeting potential friends. When I gently broached the subject about counseling, Diane became anxious. I gave her the hotline number and the location for the local domestic violence agency and told her that they offered free counseling services and had creative arts therapies, which would allow her to use her painting as an expression for her healing. I encouraged her to connect with the agency to see what it was like and to see the art therapy room.

Diane stops by my office less frequently now. Recently she informed me that after 6 months of counseling at the agency I recommended, she feels excited and empowered to make a difference for others. She signed up for the volunteer training at the domestic violence agency, and she wants to paint murals in the art therapy room. She recruited a friend from the art club to join in the training.
